The prime example was leaving land to kingdoms or democracy as Lebanon was left by the French.

Furthermore, Saddam's regime let his people starve (5000 children died monthly because of this) and funneled the money to his weapons program from the "food for oil" program and he violated 17 UN resolutions. There were plenty of reasons to go after Saddam.

Actualy the original story was that the Iranians killed those Kurds because of two things, One, the gas used on the Kurds during that awful attack was one used by the Iranian goverment, two it was a battleground between Iraq and Iran at the time with it being held by Iraq at that time.
The story only changed when Iraq went against the US orders.

Actually, we went in to topple Saddam's regime. We do reconstruct countries after wars with them, we did that with Germany and Japan after WW2. It is nothing new.
