But srsly... democracy? If the (metaphoric) kingdom of god is in the hearts of all men, not a single man nor a group of men but all men, then why accept democracy when it is only a 51% majority. @poerik But the new world order has some noble intentions, just like all factions, even the mafia. However its collectivist centralized government solution was already disproven during 1945. The only type of discipline is self discipline. The other types are brutality.

We still have democracy because we still have feudalism, dominant men who come from partisan factions. Not because we have the best way. Since the time of Caesar democracy has failed again and again.

Every time I watch this film, this speech moves me to tears. Chaplin spent close to a month writing this speech, and he meant every word, every syllable, to resound in the human soul.
