This is a song, not a "shanty" which was a unique tool of work to keep sailors efforts in sync with one another. often they were in the forms of call and response. They had no instrumental parts. There are many on youtube, ranging from absurd to old authentic shanties. Read the comments, it is easy to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Many tunes used in a variety of folk songs have been used and reused so often it is nearly impossible to identify origins. This one is common.
