Great job! I haven't commented up to this point, but I've watched your video a few times, and you did a very good job. Technically speaking you're ever-so-slightly off, but as you stated: It had been 2 months without drums. Nevertheless, you did very well at a song covering a drummer who I believe is really an android from the planet Percussion. Mazel tov, Astrotama!
Really enjoyed your performance - most impressive - I have been trying to play this song ever since the album came out in '82 and have never got anywhere near your standard of playing - top drawer!
Dude!! I have been playing these songs for years! Although I can get real close to what Niel is doing!! I cannot quite match the way you play this song!! My favorite song to play is Anolog Kid,I have that one down tight!! But this one,you take it man!! Great Job!! Keep up the drummin!!
Professor Peart is a perfectionist and the last 30 seconds is close to the real.......Neil the true artist would have to agree on this! Tama best in the industry!
Let me start with there are currently 31 IDIOTS here...Nextly... Neil Peart= God-like... your demi-god..ish. In any RUSH video you never get to see the true work of Master Neil through the entire song! Its absolutely amazing! Thank you! The only reason Sir Neil is God-like...He will play another 20 songs after this...note by note by note! You spanked its arse and called it JUDY!
i think i have viewed this video at least 187,319 times. this is one of my favorite rush tunes, and Astrotama performs it so miraculously and effortlessly, simply amazed every time i view it..
awesome, simply awesome, thats all i have to say, you make me want to start playing again.ive heard some cover bands who have good drummers, but not as close as you. good job!
Dude, without sounding corny or gay "YOU ARE THE MAN"....I bought a set like 10 years ago and i SUCK...If there was a way where somebody could wave a Magic Wond and that would MAGICALLY let me be THAT GOOD for only ONE song-I would give them 10,000dollars...lol...Rock On my Brutha...Rock On!!!!!!
Rock on dude .....Thats Excellent! Neil Peart is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE drummer in the WORLD! He surpasses Buddy Rich, the guy from pantera, and the guy from slipknot,,,whatever their names are,,,,,who cares! ROCK ON MAN!!!!!
Hey brother i watch alot of drummers on utube ...most i dont even bother leaving comments for. BUT. You played behind Rush! That in and of itself is a daunting task. Freakin Neil! I can say this from a former professional drummer. Out of all the drummers ive watched on utube you play with CONFIDENCE and PASSION and your technical skills are some of the best here. I hope you keep playing man. You make me want to play again - thanks for the vid - great freakin job man - outstanding!!!
Outstanding!! I'm not a drummer, but anyone that can even come close to sounding like Neil Peart is damn good !!. Now i have to go look at your other vids.
You are the only person on Youtube that I've seen that can play these songs so perfectly. I really have to listen intently to hear ANY errors....you're THAT GOOD!! Well done, and to the 28 MORONS that gave you a thumbs down : They know NOTHING of these songs, or drumming in general. As a drummer of 30 years myself, my hat is off to you!! Well done!!
Okay, now i've heard 3 of your videos so far. In this one you say you're a little rusty....are you kidding me....if that's the case pour water on my arms and leave me in the basement to dry, I wanna be rusty too! Keep playing and keep checking your posts; there's still alot of compliments coming your way. Awesome work....now on to listen to another of yours.
dude you are great and some of these songs I used to not really care for that much and now they are awesome. I'm only thirteen and a drummer in a band and you are dang good!
you did an awesome job. i've been interested in taking up the drumming hobby for a while now. almost bought a kit in HS. this is my fav song and IMO has best drumming ever. If i bought a kit tomorrow, how long do you think before i could play this song?
Wow. You really got a workout there, you did an excellent job, and you are right Neil Peart does do it a little differently within the few years. Keep up the good work and keep making more covers. By the way how long have you been playing for and how long does it usually take to learn a song?
@blimbby I have been playing for more than 30 years now, with some time off during my university years. To learn a song: It really depends. A new song like "Caravan" took me about 2 weeks. I have listened to older songs so much though that most of the learning process has already happened....
Thanks for putting that up man, you're great! Neil is so fast that I can never get a good look! Your video shows all the stuff you're (he) is actually doing--and my mind is blown!
@Astrotama Hello! great drumming ! I can't stop watching! I found out that the same song is on Rock band 3 and lot of people post them self playing on youtube , I will like to know your thoughts on the game? if it really measure up and do you play rock band by chance
I have a friend plays guitar. He surprised me one day when he played the complete UFO "Rock Bottom" exactly like it's recorded on their Strangers in the Night recording mistakes and all. I was blown away and no less blown away by this. The most quality rock band I know. Very well done rusty or not.
Outstanding cover...Question: In your sessions, are you listening to a click. Did you make your own click track to the original tune for practicing. I do that, due to not having a band present during practice sessions. Thanks jack
@astrotama Great job- Did you know that "In geometric order " is a one handed roll the way Neil plays it -The ending is probably the most fun adrummer can have playing a Rush song No?
@kevmckiv Yes, I do know. When I learned the song, long time ago, I played this part like I do on this video. I can do it both ways - it's just my little "personal" touch! ;) The end of the song is indeed really fun!
@Astrotama Thanks for the reply-I figured you had it figured out and I love to add personal touch as well- Try after"cruisin for the action " hitting a quick two handed cymbal crash-I fell upon it and I love how it feels-Wish I could jam with you brother
Whoa! I'm not a drummer, but I've been listening to this tune over and over the past day or so just to listen to Peart's drumming. I am very, very impressed with your video. You also look like you're getting a good workout too!
I have watched just about every drum cover of this song and this is by far the way best of them all. Others do it well, but their sound is not nearly as close and this guy probably has at least a couple hundred extra beats on the various cymbols, drums, etc that are simply missing in all the others. Gives me chills to watch this and all his drum covers. Amazing tallent! Thanks for posting!!
Racks suck! When you hit one thing attached to the rack, all the other things resonate!! Impossible to record with, individual stands are much better, and nothing attached to the bass drum, that´s the way to go!!
BRAVO! Take a standing O dude! Neal Peart is up there on the list of percussionists! Put him on a list with Buddy Rich, Gary Burghoff, Ray Cooper and...I think that does it. Few people have as much set up as this. Don't sell yourself short....I LOVE Rush and this was REALLY good!
Very nice. I always wanted to learn that song but had other things to do. Great job thought, Subdivisions is just one of my favorite song from Rush. Love the kit.
@iwimp1994 I don't like racks that much and my experience is that it's difficult to stack stuff like I have to do for this kit. The stands are just fine.
@Astrotama 1 month without drums....but I will get my mutant kit back in 7 days....you rock man! I like the sound of your bass drum. What skins do you use?
Good job! Just trying to figure out why there are sooooo many dudes with Neil Peart copycat kits set up in there bedrooms?....Is it just for fun, or do you actually gig out on that thing??? I started out with a monster kit in the 80's, I now play a 4pc, sometimes 6 depending on the gig. Knock your self out though!!!
Aside from a few slightly rough spots, you really did an excellent job on playing this drum part pretty much note-for-note! Really, really cool! BTW.. some bass drum issues on first verse - should be dotted sixteenths rather than eighths.
WHOA. As the guitarist in a Rush tribute band, I know how difficult it is to cover their tunes & be on the mark. You absolutely nailed it; I am truly impressed. You are definitely one level above our drummer...
Great job man. Neil must have an extra arm and leg to do this one. Best cover job I have seen for this song. Please don't take this the wrong way but I bet you could do this even better if you dropped a few pounds. I would love to see you cover Omar Hakim's Burn for you solo. Peace
you are truly blessed my friend, great work!!!!!!

@iwimp1994 that does make sence but it looks cooler without one.

I am a big fan of Rush.
Congratulations, it was an excellent performance.
The music is extremely difficult to play.
One person to play this song must to have a five brains.

Great job man. Neil must have an extra arm and leg to do this one. Best cover job I have seen for this song. Please don't take this the wrong way but I bet you could do this even better if you dropped a few pounds. I would love to see you cover Omar Hakim's Burn for you solo. Peace
