  • Absolutely phenomenal on a Rush classic!

  • Great job! I haven't commented up to this point, but I've watched your video a few times, and you did a very good job. Technically speaking you're ever-so-slightly off, but as you stated: It had been 2 months without drums. Nevertheless, you did very well at a song covering a drummer who I believe is really an android from the planet Percussion. Mazel tov, Astrotama!

  • i cant play shit but wish i could like you - youre the best -

  • Dude!! I have been playing these songs for years! Although I can get real close to what Niel is doing!! I cannot quite match the way you play this song!! My favorite song to play is Anolog Kid,I have that one down tight!! But this one,you take it man!! Great Job!! Keep up the drummin!!

  • !!!!BRAVO!!!!!

  • So how many gigs per month can your tribute band do?

    Website?

Nice sound on the tubs also.

Ever consider setting up an "overhead" camera for an aerial view?

  • I've watched this about three times now and I'm still amazed at how well you play. Awesome song btw

  • Professor Peart is a perfectionist and the last 30 seconds is close to the real.......Neil the true artist would have to agree on this! Tama best in the industry!

  • god job dude!!!!! Gotta love RUSH seen them over 20 times.......Peace

  • Your great dude

  • EXCELLENT !!!!!!!!!!! YOU ARE AN EXCEPTIONAL DRUMMER ! KEEP IT UP :)

  • I wish I was as rusty as you.. damn dude.. rock on!

  • Most excellent!

  • holy drum kit

  • Let me start with there are currently 31 IDIOTS here...Nextly... Neil Peart= God-like... your demi-god..ish. In any RUSH video you never get to see the true work of Master Neil through the entire song! Its absolutely amazing! Thank you! The only reason Sir Neil is God-like...He will play another 20 songs after this...note by note by note! You spanked its arse and called it JUDY!

  • I don't understand... how is this rusty?

  • @jdcarl It is. Check the new version, submitted a few months ago. Better performance.

  • Great. It's midnight & my wife is calling me to go to bed. "It's all pops & buzzes from here honey. Can't hear a thing."

  • Nicely done man!

  • i think i have viewed this video at least 187,319 times. this is one of my favorite rush tunes, and Astrotama performs it so miraculously and effortlessly, simply amazed every time i view it..

  • this was a great video, off the chain

  • Not a drummer at all, but good job !!

  • awesome, simply awesome, thats all i have to say, you make me want to start playing again.ive heard some cover bands who have good drummers, but not as close as you. good job!

  • Man, this is fuckin good, really amazing!!!! Ca rentyre au poste en tabarnak!!!

  • @NEGATIVASTEEVE Marci bin! ;)

  • Dude, without sounding corny or gay "YOU ARE THE MAN"....I bought a set like 10 years ago and i SUCK...If there was a way where somebody could wave a Magic Wond and that would MAGICALLY let me be THAT GOOD for only ONE song-I would give them 10,000dollars...lol...Rock On my Brutha...Rock On!!!!!!

  • Rock on dude .....Thats Excellent! Neil Peart is my ALL TIME FAVOURITE drummer in the WORLD! He surpasses Buddy Rich, the guy from pantera, and the guy from slipknot,,,whatever their names are,,,,,who cares! ROCK ON MAN!!!!!

  • I am a professional drummer who has been playing for 35 years. I have one word for you. OUTSTANDING!! Your drumset sounds great. I am impressed.

  • I wanted to jump to my feet and cheer! Great performance!

  • Hey brother i watch alot of drummers on utube ...most i dont even bother leaving comments for. BUT. You played behind Rush! That in and of itself is a daunting task. Freakin Neil! I can say this from a former professional drummer. Out of all the drummers ive watched on utube you play with CONFIDENCE and PASSION and your technical skills are some of the best here. I hope you keep playing man. You make me want to play again - thanks for the vid - great freakin job man - outstanding!!!

  • If something happens to Neil, the boys should give you a call. Sweet!

  • wow crazy amazing! god given talent man, thanks for posting.

  • Outstanding!! I'm not a drummer, but anyone that can even come close to sounding like Neil Peart is damn good !!. Now i have to go look at your other vids.

  • now thats what i'm talking about. great drumming wicked awsome.great song

  • omg......well done!

  • un real, perfect

  • Wow. That's all I can say...

  • outstanding!

  • fantastic my man

  • Very good job mate!!! Congrats!!!!

  • I watched the whole thing, and that's saying a lot for a drum cover of a 30 year old tune.

  • You are the only person on Youtube that I've seen that can play these songs so perfectly. I really have to listen intently to hear ANY errors....you're THAT GOOD!! Well done, and to the 28 MORONS that gave you a thumbs down : They know NOTHING of these songs, or drumming in general. As a drummer of 30 years myself, my hat is off to you!! Well done!!

  • @salemetro Thank you, it's really appreciated!

  • VERY GOOD MAN!

  • Awesome! Congrats

  • Very, very impressive, man :>

  • Okay, now i've heard 3 of your videos so far. In this one you say you're a little rusty....are you kidding me....if that's the case pour water on my arms and leave me in the basement to dry, I wanna be rusty too! Keep playing and keep checking your posts; there's still alot of compliments coming your way. Awesome work....now on to listen to another of yours.

  • Back again! This is SICK!!! 28 people are jealous. Now I see you've got a new video posted with a new drum set....see ya there!

  • @theirishinc It's not a new drumset (well, some other stuff has been added...). It's just a better performance (I think!) and a better quality video.

  • 28 people don't play the drums very well I guess.

  • Bravo!

If this is seen by Neil Peart himself, with his dedication to the advancement of percussion, you should be making him quite proud.

    Encore, post again Astrotama !

  • I just shit my pants...

  • very good. I've been a sound engineer in the past and I have to say thats excellent.

  • Cover doesn't get any better than this! Great job!

  • yes! yeS! yES! YES! so much rock! awesome dude, that was super tight

  • Kick ass!!! You are realy going places!

  • Just brilliant....nothing else to say....thumbs up!

  • Real nice job!!!!

  • i can't stop watching either. can u post a few with an overhead camera pointing straight down at you and the drum kit? that would be awesome too.

  • Wowzers

  • Bravo! Bravo! Bravo!

  • Cool, Since i'm not a musician, How did you learn that just by listing to the track? or is there sheet music for drumers?

  • Amazing ... simply amazing

  • I never get tired of watching this video. I've been watching it every now and then for the last few years. What a complex thing u do IMPECCABLY.

  • 26 people don't know how hard it is to play drums this well

  • dude you are great and some of these songs I used to not really care for that much and now they are awesome. I'm only thirteen and a drummer in a band and you are dang good!

  • you did an awesome job. i've been interested in taking up the drumming hobby for a while now. almost bought a kit in HS. this is my fav song and IMO has best drumming ever. If i bought a kit tomorrow, how long do you think before i could play this song?

  • pretty damn good bro !!

  • Great drumming man !

  • Outstanding cover man. I'm extremely jealous of your kit :p

  • Wow. You really got a workout there, you did an excellent job, and you are right Neil Peart does do it a little differently within the few years. Keep up the good work and keep making more covers. By the way how long have you been playing for and how long does it usually take to learn a song?

  • @blimbby I have been playing for more than 30 years now, with some time off during my university years. To learn a song: It really depends. A new song like "Caravan" took me about 2 weeks. I have listened to older songs so much though that most of the learning process has already happened....

  • @Astrotama

Thanks for putting that up man, you're great! Neil is so fast that I can never get a good look! Your video shows all the stuff you're (he) is actually doing--and my mind is blown!

  • @Astrotama Hello! great drumming ! I can't stop watching! I found out that the same song is on Rock band 3 and lot of people post them self playing on youtube , I will like to know your thoughts on the game? if it really measure up and do you play rock band by chance

  • Keep trying you will get better with time.

  • What a pleasure to watch.

I have a friend plays guitar. He surprised me one day when he played the complete UFO "Rock Bottom" exactly like it's recorded on their Strangers in the Night recording mistakes and all. I was blown away and no less blown away by this. The most quality rock band I know. Very well done rusty or not.

  • That was easily the best cover i've seen on YouTube. Accurate and played with feeling. BRAVO!

  • WOW NICE

  • super

  • Thumbs up all the way bud, great job

  • its a hell of a work out huh rush has the best drums they are so original and intensely mellow.

  • wow you have some talent

  • That was fucking phenomenal, Bro!!! NICE work!

  • Outstanding cover...Question: In your sessions, are you listening to a click. Did you make your own click track to the original tune for practicing. I do that, due to not having a band present during practice sessions. Thanks jack

  • @jjdecks No, I just listen to the song through the headphones.

  • NOW THAT WAS AWESOME! GREAT JOB! KEEP IT UP!

  • @astrotama Great job- Did you know that "In geometric order " is a one handed roll the way Neil plays it -The ending is probably the most fun adrummer can have playing a Rush song No?

  • @kevmckiv Yes, I do know. When I learned the song, long time ago, I played this part like I do on this video. I can do it both ways - it's just my little "personal" touch! ;) The end of the song is indeed really fun!

  • @Astrotama Thanks for the reply-I figured you had it figured out and I love to add personal touch as well- Try after"cruisin for the action " hitting a quick two handed cymbal crash-I fell upon it and I love how it feels-Wish I could jam with you brother

  • Amazingly Fantastic!!! You've met the high bar Neil set for drummers

and performed flawlessly. There are thousands who wish they could

play even a modicum of the way you play. I'm one of them.

Congrats and much continued success with the playing and

    the chicks!!!

  • needs moar ghost hits!

  • Man you superbad on drums (which means supergood)!

  • Dude, awesome awesome.

  • Whoa! I'm not a drummer, but I've been listening to this tune over and over the past day or so just to listen to Peart's drumming. I am very, very impressed with your video. You also look like you're getting a good workout too!

  • good stuff, very well done.

  • Sounds insane.... kick ass!

  • really, really cool. Thanks for posting.

  • i can tell by watchin u r a 'thinkin mans' drummer - nice job!!

  • I think that not even neil can play the drums better than you..

  • @Rugoloks I'm not even in the same Universe as Neil... I'm just a bum!

  • Awesome cover.

  • You did awesome! Congrats!

  • I have watched just about every drum cover of this song and this is by far the way best of them all. Others do it well, but their sound is not nearly as close and this guy probably has at least a couple hundred extra beats on the various cymbols, drums, etc that are simply missing in all the others. Gives me chills to watch this and all his drum covers. Amazing tallent! Thanks for posting!!

  • nice job. wish i was that good lol

  • As a 25 year Rush fan I can tell you that this is amazing, In fact, I learned a few things watching. Neil would be proud

  • sounds like you improvised on the fills. cuzz thats not what is says in the book xP

  • EXCELLENT !!!

  • Racks suck! When you hit one thing attached to the rack, all the other things resonate!! Impossible to record with, individual stands are much better, and nothing attached to the bass drum, that´s the way to go!!

  • parabens, vc toca muito cara...rs (brasil)

you are excellent in drums, congratulations

Rush here brasil , show today...

  • Pretty good, but the video is not synced well, the sound of you hitting the drums trails or is ahead of the video.

  • kissmyass.......WOW

  • Very good!

  • I think you did great. This is a hard song to play. You get an "A".

  • Oh yes! ha!ha! you are great!

  • nicely done!!

  • BRAVO! Take a standing O dude! Neal Peart is up there on the list of percussionists! Put him on a list with Buddy Rich, Gary Burghoff, Ray Cooper and...I think that does it. Few people have as much set up as this. Don't sell yourself short....I LOVE Rush and this was REALLY good!

  • THIS SHIT IS SICK ! that fuck hit it 100 % - kick ass dude, well done!

  • Dude SICK.

  • That was pretty good

  • I've been listening to this song since 1982, and you are true to it man.. nice job indeed.

  • Never get tired of watching you do this!

  • Nice job!

  • wow nice set dude. How much did that all cost?

  • great drummin man.

  • Fucking beautiful!

  • Awesome!!!!!!!!

  • great job man!

  • Sick drumming dude ! You done Neil Peart proud son !

  • You know what? I know nothing about drumming but I was literaly on the edge of my couch watching. This gave me goosebumps. YOU'RE AWESOME!!

  • Dude that was awesome!!!

  • Dude you are truly bad ass!

  • just perfect

  • Awesome!

  • yer sick dude..fn awesome..

  • i wish you were my next door neighbor i could listen to this all day

  • I really enjoyed this video, you have skills

  • RUSTY??? Dude r u kidding me?:))) very good job my friend!

  • awesome....great job

  • You've done an excellent job. I even learnt some moves :-)

  • Very nice. I always wanted to learn that song but had other things to do. Great job thought, Subdivisions is just one of my favorite song from Rush. Love the kit.

  • Totally F'n amazing! Holy Shiite Batman!!!

  • Why don't you just use a drum rack???

  • @iwimp1994 Because he probably want's it to be just like Neils. Have you noticed that his whole drumset's just like Neil Peart?

  • @iwimp1994 I don't like racks that much and my experience is that it's difficult to stack stuff like I have to do for this kit. The stands are just fine.

  • @Astrotama 1 month without drums....but I will get my mutant kit back in 7 days....you rock man! I like the sound of your bass drum. What skins do you use?

  • @iwimp1994 that does make sence but it looks cooler without one.

  • Good job! Just trying to figure out why there are sooooo many dudes with Neil Peart copycat kits set up in there bedrooms?....Is it just for fun, or do you actually gig out on that thing??? I started out with a monster kit in the 80's, I now play a 4pc, sometimes 6 depending on the gig. Knock your self out though!!!

  • damn............for a 1/4 century i have in my dreams played subdivisions....only a dream though......nice job man.....

  • uau !! you is good !! congratulations

  • Aside from a few slightly rough spots, you really did an excellent job on playing this drum part pretty much note-for-note! Really, really cool! BTW.. some bass drum issues on first verse - should be dotted sixteenths rather than eighths.

  • Nice job! Very nice job!

  • Just started to learn the drums and am a big Rush fan, am mightily impressed! Well done!

  • WHOA. As the guitarist in a Rush tribute band, I know how difficult it is to cover their tunes & be on the mark. You absolutely nailed it; I am truly impressed. You are definitely one level above our drummer...

  • I am a big fan of Rush.

Congratulations, it was an excellent performance.

The music is extremely difficult to play.

One person to play this song must to have a five brains.

  • If you call this rusty, I'd love to see what you can do at 100%. Nice job!!!

  • dude....you r freakin awesome!!!!!

  • Great job man. Neil must have an extra arm and leg to do this one. Best cover job I have seen for this song. Please don't take this the wrong way but I bet you could do this even better if you dropped a few pounds. I would love to see you cover Omar Hakim's Burn for you solo. Peace
