Not just that. The country is not a democracy. Just being elected every years is not democracy. If they really represent the people, the people on the streets, rather than starving them with cuts, and sending their children to war, and thus breeding home-grown terrorists, threatening our peace, then that's a democracy.
The British government doesn't do that - so let's admit it to the world: We Are NOT A Democracy.
hi there pokerbum, Saddam was torturing hundreds of thousands of his own people every year, he was defying the UN weapons inspectors, he'd gassed the Kurds, do you really think we should have given him the benefit of the doubt??????????????????
do you really think killimg millions of Iraqi civillians and destroying the entire country was a sensible answer and was action taken by people thinking of freedom and peace. What weapons was he exactly hiding to defy the UK inspectors? Why have we not invaded Africa to stop mass murder there? Using Sadam as justification doesnt cut it anymore.

These so called 'peace protestors' are experts at whinging and whimpering about the war in Iraq, but if they thought about it, they're actually helping the terrorists and extremists. No doubt these 'peace protestors' if they'd been around in the 1930's would be bleating 'don't attack Nazi Germany'.

You do realise that there are more of these people now since the west started to subjugate iraq and afganistan then there was before. Heroin production has increased by 100%. Organised crime has been revitalised in turkey, afganistan and sicily/italy becauuse they have an endless stream of income because the west is incompetent in its policing of the afgan drug trade. The world is more dangerous than ever before because of america.
hello 123Ivansharpe - I agree that USA was incompetent in its implementation of policy in Iraq. But I still think that in principle it was crucial to end Saddam's dictatorship. I don't think it's credible or right to simply allow dictatorships to thrive.
How do you think the West should police the Afghan drug trade?
Why was it crucial? He posed no threat to the UK. And we did more than help him thrive we put him in power.
As for the drug trade, the only way that can be stopped and iraq and afganistan can be subjugated is by killing everyone. You arrest anyone even remotley suspected of being involved and then you execute them in public. That is the only way to do it because that is the way it has always been done in that part of the world. Fear is the only deterrant because the people there have nothing.
isnt it funny that the learned well thought out answer gains thumbs up whilst the babbling nonsense of the "patriot" band wagon jumping gaunch gets thumbs down. you'd think people would learn TO learn before spouting rubbish in public.
Isn't it funny that any attempt to stand up to psychopathic dictatorships gets 'thumbs down' in these comments, and appeasing these dictatorships gets 'thumbs up'.
haha your point is ridiculous, so your plan would be to invade any country that exports drugs so that it can be "controlled" by our laws and standards. Like the flow of drugs into countries isnt being monitored by governments and allowed to happen anyway, so it gives them something to say they are "doing" such as "the war on drugs".
OH and George Bush was as much a loon as saddam and i didnt see anyone rolling in there guns a'blazing.
Dialogue with Saddam Hussein, a psychopath? The UN attempted dialogue for 10 years with no result.
Your conclusion that we're a 1 party state if the government fails to change its policy after 1 million people marched against the war, is a bit odd. Do you really think that 1 million people constitute the majority of the population?
No doubt if you had been around in 1939 you would have been against Britain going to war against Hitler. Appeasing tyrrany is not the answer.
I'll second that. The problem is to bring these shoulders all in one line, in one place, at one time, and do what they did with the Communists and the French kings.
Where are all the anti-war loudmouths now that we've attacked Libya? What happened to "no blood for oil"?

People who are against US in Iraq include:
1- religious fanatics stuck in the 10th century, who want to be left in 'peace' so they can go on raping their wives and torturing non-believers
2- Saddam sympathisers who want a return to totalitarianism
3- bandits and organised crime gangs who profit from keeping Iraq free from things like the rule of law.
Are those the kind of people you want to join in opposing the war?

4- Reasonable thinking centrists to leftists who just think that dialogue can work better than bombs.
5- Iraqi civilians who would rather an estimated 1million people hadnt died in the conflict
6- Ken Livingston 8 years the mayor of one of the most important capitals in the world.
7- Apparently 1million average Londoners..? And if their voice doesnt matter in the end, we are just under a one party state.
I will stand shoulder to shoulder with anyone who wants peace and stability in this world.
