Thank you, wienerfr, for this audio clip. I crossed the English Channel to go to Paris and hear this performance in 2005. I remember Christophe Rousset conducted concert performances of two Handel operas in one day at the Chatelet Theatre- Tamerlano in the afternoon and Alcina at night, both with distinguished casts. This aria was a particular highlight because of Silvia's unique lower register. It was a great trip to Paris!
She brings her chest voice way up. Even though it is beautifully blended with her head voice, I wonder if it's really healthy in a long run. I find the tempo a bit too fast for her, but then I noticed before that Rousset seems really ruthless with insisting fast tempos beyond singers' ability. And the da capo ornaments were just unfortunate.

Strange voice... I could get used to it, but it's not ideal baroque singing. I must say the fast tempo is becoming of this aria.

i dont know why she uses her chest voice so high, it sounds forced and stale.
one can admire her effort maby, but she's not a baroque singer.
and oh my god for expressing opinion.

I like her dark timbre and the hard accents in her voice.... although Santa Fe would be a better Bradamante than Ruggero

what is necessary to sing haendel is the dimension of a real STAR. She is maybe a good student but not a mature artist for Ruggero.
Who has choosen this cast for Alcina???
Not so good the variations in the b part of aria.
Orchestra is also often confused and has a lack of vitality, Handel is better than that...
