  • I love secretariat

  • @SukBonelessSausage That is a total lie. His heart did not weigh 30 pounds..nevermind 'plus.' And he was never on steroids of any kind. Stop spreading this garbage. Why can't you allow for the fact that, occasionally, mother nature creates a nearly perfect specimen...whether flora or fauna? jeez...

  • Thats right, his heart was estimated to have been 22 pounds since it was not weighed during his autopsy. The reason he had such a large heart was due to what is called the "x factor" which is a gene passed down through the brood mare. This gene has been traced back to Eclipse, a racing horse from the late 1700's. Secrateriat is a decendant of Eclipse. He did not take steriods and the doctors who performed his autopsy were in awe of his heart. They said it was in perfect condition.

  • @SonofLiberty79 Yes, reference the "perfect condition" of his heart. It was not 'pathological.' It was perfectly formed, all valves, etc., proportionate and healthy. The term "enlarged heart" is used in cases of pathologically large due to disease or malformation. Such was not the case with Secretariat. :)

  • @SecretariatOnSteriod sounds like you have a real thing for steroids, so you dream in steroids too?? I'm 69 yrs old and know better regarding Secretariat. I feel sorry for someone like you when all you can feel and do is sit at a computer and knock off the frat boy adolescent, silly nonsense like this. It's a real case of arrested emotional development. You shld really lay off the steroids !!

  • I still get goosebumps watching him. What an amazing horse with the correct jockey, trainer and owner. It took a team and that team did it, together with the best horse to ever live so far. :)

  • @labsrus1 I get so many feelings watching "the move" that I get dizzy. I like the spot between horses with his mane flying back as Chick says.... "and it's RIGHT now he's looking for it !" (the lead).

  • @GeorgeCarlinIsInHell FYI... George is NOT in hell. AND you're just a troll wanting to get a rise out of people. Andy Beyer said no such thing, and you know damn well that Secretariat was NOT on drugs or anything else, you're a jerk.

  • Only absolute stupid people would say that secretariat was on drugs!!!!

  • awesome Big Red....

  • @TheAssPacker1969 Nevermind the rest of the horse sh*t (pardon the expression), why would Sham be worthy of the Triple Crown? He came in LAST in the Belmont, for pete's sake.

  • @BrooksRobby5 Secretariat was not on drugs they always did a drug test on the horses. Please stop spreading rumers.

  • @BrooksRobby5 A battery? Are you for real?? I don't believe that.

  • GUYS STOP FEEDING THE TROLLS THEY FKN LOVE IT... secretariat you were the greatest you have my full respect!!!

  • @theasspacker1969 how the hell would you know andrew beyer is right? how do you know he aint pullin shit out of his ass? just shut up he won everyone can get over it

  • @BrooksRobby5 Despite his 5 losses in which was only 4 since he won the race where he was disquailfied, a man named Eddied Arcaro who rode Whirlaway, Citation, Assualt, Kelso and many more greats proclaimed Secretariat the best he ever seen and the fastest, Go crawl in the hole on that one. Don't you think Eddie Arcaro could not figure out the winning percentage dumb ass.

  • @BrooksRobby5 Pretty damm crummy a horse named upset beat Man 0' War and a claimer Hoodwink losing by 100 lengths. Crummy Citation losing to Noor 4 straight times and losing 13 races all together. Pretty crummy Count Fleet beat allowances horses by 25 lengths in the Belmont & lost 2 races to Occupation.. Crummy Spectacualr Bid lost to a horse named Coastal And Dr. Fager could not out run a rabbit. I can play kids games as well you idiot. Spare me excuses only for them.

  • Secretariat wasnt on steriods what are you on cocaine? So he had a couple bad races nobodys perfect lets see if you can run 1 and a half miles in 2 minutes and 24 seconds when you can LET ME KNOW.

  • Secretariat, i believe was the greatest racehorse that EVER stepped on a race track

  • In 1973, I was 14 years old, and it was Secretariat that started me on my way toward my lifelong passion for thoroughbred racing!! There's an old saying that they save the best for last? Not in this case. Because he was the first horse that I ever started following his races, and I know I won't ever see any better again in my lifetime!! His 31 length Belmont Stakes victory is still the closest thing to perfect that you'll ever see anywhere on a racetrack.

  • @GBeret83 His run in the Belmont is perfection, it is mathematically impossible to better what Sec done that day. What a freak of nature, horse or no horse, he can only be described as a one off, miracle being.

  • That ladies and gentlemen is what you call a Champion

  • @BrooksRobby5 Secretariat was not on steroids, his heart was 2.5 times of an avg horse. When he was put down, the doctor who did the necropsy said that his heart weighed approx. 22 lbs. compare that to shams heart that weighed 18lbs. both weighed more then a avg horse. secetariat was truly, a super horse

  • @GoFuckaPregnantPig Well im a Canadian and im not on steroids

  • Comment removed

  • @GoFuckaPregnantPig I don't think he was. Can we leave the subject behind?

  • Stream`."It,``Now"..

    Copy`".&`",Paste'.,

  • @BrooksRobby5 Get this crap out of here. This is about the greatness of Secretariat. Shut the heck up you friggin moron. Go post somewhere else you doofuses.

  • I find it ridicolous how people refuse to admit that Secretariat was a great racehorse based on those 5 losses. He is a horse for christ sake, not a machine! They have bad days, they have days when they just don't want to cooporate. The fact of the matter is that WHEN Secretariat felt like running, he truly was untouchable. His record in the 1973 Belmont stakes have been untouched for 37 years, he is one of only 11 horses who have won the tripple crown. Now that speaks for itself.

  • Greatest Racehorse EVER!! Please don't argue about it, its not debatable!!

  • @CountryGirl5077 you're right, secretariat was never on steroids,. He got laminitis on his hoofs and until his owner noticed that it was so bad they decided to put him to sleep so it wouldn't get any worse! His last race was on the Belgian grass :'(

  • SHUT UP EVERYONE!!!!! JUST SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!! HE WAS NOT ON STERIODS!!!!! JUST LEAVE IT AT THAT!!!!!

  • @BrooksRobby5 - um...his college winning percentage was less than 90% (not that that means anything except to point out you error) and his NBA playoff winning percentage was 69%, expremely impressive but less than the 75% mark that you state disqualifies Secretariat from greatness...

if you go back, add in his high school record, his playground games, and his one on one record, I'm sure you'll get to 81%.....

  • @BrooksRobby5 um...regardless- noone has ever put Gary Puckett i the rarified air of once in a generation or evven superstar status... I dont even think Air Supply, the Grass Roots oor Three Dog Night are even together....

  • @BrooksRobby5 gary puckett? the singer?

you must move in odd circles- when they discuss roack acts, is it the Beatles, the Who, Gary Puckett and the union gap and Led Zeppelin??

  • @BrooksRobby5 - try again- Jordan won 64% of his games, far less than 75%, he won 6 titles in 15 years, , which equates to a 60% failure rate using your logic- still phenominal but means he los tmore than he won....

  • considering his heart was way larger than average, he could not have been on Steriods, and those accusations were completely without proof. had he indeed been injected with steroids such as that, before any race, with an abnormal heart, it would have burst. And If I had a penis, which I do not.. I would say your need to mention shows penis envy on your part. Some horses named were and are great, but still, the record of the Triple Crown is unbeaten..

  • @BrooksRobby5 yeah ok your right... and i love the horses you named but still secretariat might of ran less races but each of the races he ran were exemplary! he ran very fast amazing races and ron didnt even need to whip him to make him go. sorry but you just cant argue about secretariat. you show me a horse with a faster track recored and triple crown recored and i might respect them.

  • @BrooksRobby5 of course he lost a few times but what race horse doesnt? he is untouch able in the triple crown because no horse ever beat his score. and he was just amazing he had a lot of heart figurativly and realisticly.

  • ~ secretariat is the greatest horse to ever live. ~ and im not gonna say WAS the greatest horse, because no horse can touch him so he IS the greatest horse to ever live

  • If you think coke is all you need to win then why hasn't anyone else come close to Secretariats numbers since then. Why didn't Big Brown come close? Because Secretariat was Ruth, Gehrig and Cobb.

  • What's the music used at the very beginning of the piece? Does anyone know what soundtrack it came from, or was it an original composition?

  • @000grungehead000 Secretariat was on steriods,he was a cheater and thats why there is negative talk about what he accomplished.

Your mother was a straight up whore who cheated on your father (I phucked her analy several times while you were in school) but you dont hold that agaist her now do you?

  • @denlaw12177 I agree Secretariat was on Steriods according to Andrew Beyer and Harvey Pack, who saw A vet nameed Alex Harhil stick him with a hypodermic full of HGH andr before the 1973 triple crown races.

  • @petermackett3771 Read my reply to denlaw, the first HGH drug that would actually be effective as a growth hormone for a horse or a human would have been in the early to mid 80's. I guess every athlete that was/is special is on the juice to you guys because you can't face the fact that some great athletes don't need to cheat to be great. You just can't wrap your mind around the fact that this horse's breed is what made him special. His extra large heart made him special not building HGH/muscle.

  • @petermackett3771 bullshit...he wasn't on steroids...he was just a miracle

  • @petermackett3771 was it like in the cartoons- a big hypodermic needle with big letters reading HGH? exactly how would HUMAN growth hormones, which weren't synthesized until a decade later, help a horse???

do you people actually read what you post, or is just easier to believe something negative than accept that there are exceptional creations and it is a priveledge to watch them. Are you so insecure that you can't appreciate greatness?

  • @petermackett3771 Steriods? What the hell man! He was not on steriods!

  • @petermackett3771 They did a saliva test on him after the Belmont and he would not have been given the triple crown if he had failed. Get your facts straight.

  • @denlaw12177 My mother is 79 years old (and a great woman), which obviously means I haven't been in school for quite a few years. Given your comments I am guessing you still are. If you disagree with my post I have no problem with you saying whatever you want about it as long as you can do it without the juvenile personal insults about me, and especially about my family. In order for you to say that about my mom makes me question how you were raised by your parents.

  • @denlaw12177 BTW denlaw if Secretariat was giving steroids before each of the triple crown races does that explain him being the "horse of the year" as a 2 year old only losing the Wood Memorial because of an abscess on his tooth? Was he using steroids during his entire career or did he just use them in the triple crown races? You do know they tested the horses after each race don't you? Oh yeah...HGH was not invented until the mid 80's which is over 10 years after Secretariat retired.

  • @000grungehead000 yeah don't pay attention to Denlaw he is a dumbass who doesn't know what the hell he's talking about he's too stupid to realized that back then was different than now. not to mention he has a small pp so that's enough reason to ignore his lame ass.

  • @denlaw12177 no he wasn't on steroids......... get that stupid skepticism out of your head asshole you prolly have a little tiny ass dick...poor loser.

  • God bless Ronnie Turcotte. So very sorry for him having had that accident. So undeserving of such a thing.

  • WTF 2:52 'He went each of the five quarters faster. It justified logic'.....

  • He said, "It just defied logic."

  • @MarlonDeanMcQueen oh right!....but how can there be five quarters?

  • @totallymangled Because the Kentucky Derby is five quarter miles. Four quarters, the mile, plus another quarter to the finish.

  • @kitimation thanks for clearing that up for me....i`m an ignorant irishman and rather naive regarding American horse racing

  • @totallymangled You don't know what you're missing. If you are anywhere within 150 miles of a thoroughbred track consider yourself blessed and take full advantage. You don't have to bet (though I don't know why you wouldn't if you were there) to love the hell out of racing.

  • what an awesome horse... i love secretariat

  • @JudyKhan500lbSlut You are really stupid. Secretariat was the favorite in all three of the triple crown races, so how can you say that Americans or anyone else rooting for secretariat was rooting for a loser. He was the horse of the year as a 2 year old. He was also a beautiful horse, not an ugly pig. I imagine you are a bitter person because you are married to an ugly pig...just a hunch. Anyway I do agree with you about the Chicago Cubs, but if the Red Sox can do it so can the Cubs.

  • @JudyKhan500lbSlut lol your so fucking stupid first your talking about games then secretariat... first off most other countrys fucking give steroids to there horses thats why most are insanely fast. second my family and friends are all fit and we all have sexy men. honey go to a gym and try not breaking anything.

  • @cmf43211 Secretariat might be YOUR OBSESSION,but you sound like a perverted old fucker who needs his balls cut off and placed in his big mouth.

  • @cmf43211 Secreatrait is your obsession which is pretty sad considering he hasnt run in 38 years and he was last seen being fed to Maggotts, buzzards and earth worms about twenty two years ago lol.I think your a lonely, sick fuck who gets no pussy cause hes ugly, fat, stupid and an all around asshole.

  • @whitewolf23456 Most of his foals are not still alive and 19 is relatively young for a horse to die.

  • Smarty Jones had direct lines from Secretariat correct?

  • i own two horses with secreteriat in there bloodlines one great grandfarther and the othere great great x

  • Secretariat's performance in the Preakness is my favorite of his Triple crown races. Review 4:08 - 4:22. This horse was a maniac. How fast was he running when he made his move from last to first? 45 mph? 50 mph?

  • I want to correct an error in recent post. AP Indy was from Big Red's daughter Weekend Surprise rather than Terlingua. Seattle Slew is the Sire.

  • @WMJCPA Did your homework! Pedigreequery is good site to google for info.Secretariat sired General Asembly & Risen Star who shld've won Triple Crown in 1988 but turned out to be a great broodmare sire like his maternal grandsire, the wonderful Princequillo. He was sired in France by Prince Rose to Cosquilla, but Prince Rose was lost when Nazi's occupied. PQ was taken to Ireland then to U.S. in bottom of a gunboat across Atlantic in Nazi infested waters. He was a strong distance runner.

  • @bon1042 Bull Hancock really scored a couple of coups with Princequillo and Nasrullah getting them to stud at Claiborne Farms. Bold Ruler also had his influence on ohter horses. He was grandsire to Ruffian, and his bloodline turns up in Seattle Slew on both Sire and Dam sides. Finally, Secretariat is distantly related to Man O' War, from Bold Ruler's Dam, Miss Disco, Sired by Discovery, Sired by Display Sired by Fair Play, Man O'War's Sire.

  • @WMJCPA Hi, yes, is't it interesting, I've been trying to learn since I went to YTube in summer of 2006 while following Barbaro's saga, on an NBC blog, still hurts. A guy mentioned parents took him to Claiborne when he was 18 and he petted Secretariat's neck, "so soft" he said. WELL, I went to youtube and wondered if there were any videos !!! And here we are. I mentioned the connection with Man O'War too when tie of Discovery w/Display. But a guy here told me not actual blood connection (?).

  • @bon1042 Maybe not a direct bloodline to Man O' War, but it certainly is in the same building. I recently saw the ESPN movie "Ruffian." In the DVD extra features, William Nack talks about Ruffian and Barbaro. He stated, as Barbaro came down the stretch at Churchill, he saw shades of Secretariat, and thought this horse would win triple crown. I am paraphrasing, Mr. Nack is so eloquent in his wiriting and speaking, you can visualize the moment. I saw Secretariat run in IL 6/30/73, WOW!

  • @WMJCPA Barbaro I watch his KD, when he takes lead into final turn, with that call, it's still devastating. I followed his saga on NBC blog w/others, that's when I went to YTube bec a guy talked of folks taking him to Claiborne wen he was 18. He started to pet Sec, mom said "no, no" but groom said O.K., he loves it. Lucky you! I JUST bought on Ebay and rec'd today Sp Ill of Arl Inv, only bec article is by George Plimpton, also great writer, it's wonderful, way he talks of S!

  • @bon1042 Yes, Plimpton did speak very well of Sec. I loved Part II of Sportscentury when he says, he ran just because he loved running.. I had a friend from HS who had season pass to Arlington, and went all the time. We both went on that day, the place was packed tighter than I ever remembered it. Overflowing crowd just to see Big Red run. BTW, I love the videos you posted on SEC, particularaly the last race. I have ESPN DVD, but with the background music, well it's GREAT!!! Thanks.

  • @WMJCPA You mean videos i have as favorites, right? 'Cause I don't have a clue as to how to create one. Did you watch the one of guy, 2 kids, at Claiborne that Sunday, 3 days before we lost him? So touching, tho sad. hard to watch. Did you ever watch the one posted by cf1970 called, Secretariat, Running from Within, that's Bob Costas at beginning. Secretariat was the ultimate showff in that one. One guy commented that he switched leads 3 times as he's coming toward you clockwise.

  • @bon1042 Sorry, I thought you posted them, still great. I've seen the running from within and it is great, I had not idea that was Costas' introduction. I have not seen the one on 3 days before he was lost, I will look it up. Sounds very touching. In the 2010 edition William Nack describes the last time he saw the horse at Claiborne from a distance, and thought he looked very frail. Seth Hancock told him that there wasn't much time, and he was destroyed next day.

  • @WMJCPA I haven't seen the 2010 edition yet. Are you talking of "Pure Heart"? That was added to the 2002, 2nd edition, at the end. It was the tribute he wrote for Sp Ill I think. The original came out in 1974. If you are talking of Pure Heart (when I started to read it the first time I started to cry bed of the opening sentence. Did he do a new intro to this 3rd edition?

  • @bon1042 You're right, I'm wrong, I got confused since they changed the cover to a promo picture from the movie so I was thinking 2010. So it is Pure Heart, and I did the same, I must admit, it brought tears to my eyes. There is some material in the book where he talks about meeting Diane Lane I think at Claiborne or in the town of Lexington. I don't have the book in front of me, so I don't remember if its in the intro, or added at the end. I want to say at the end.

  • @WMJCPA thanks, I keep meaning to stop and look at a copy somewhere, because I wondered if he wrote any additional thoughts on Secretariat. Now I don't have to.

  • @bon1042 the video is on my profile page or you can type in secretariat last video, I think is the title.

  • @bon1042 What is wrong with you typing a million words about a dead racehorse?I could have given you a whip cream blowjob in the time it took you to proove a point about dead racehorse.LOOSER!

  • @whitewolf23456 - he was euthanized at 19 which isn't a long life for a thoroughbred. His final year was mostly in misery as he suffered from laminitis, the same disease that ultimately ended Barbaro's life. Most of his foals are NOT still alive, since the last one was born >20 years ago. Two of his grandsons (Storm Cat & AP Indy) have become 2 of the most important sires of the past 20 years though.

  • @1Lmaris AP Indy was from his daughter Terlingua, sired by Seattle Slew. Yes AP Indy has been one of the most important sires through the years. Storm Cat has been one of the best sires in history, with his stud fees approaching $1 million. But his greatest running foal has to me Risen Star, winning the 1988 Preakness and Belmont, missing a win in the Derby by getting hung out to dry on the home stretch. His Belmont win is the second largest margin since "Dad" and only 2 seconds slower.

  • my trainers horse is related to secretariat

  • this is to pixilated get high quality next tiiime

  • Like I said the first time--read below if you know what that word means-- and if you reply with a nasty comment about Canadians again I will *(*)&^%)&%% _)*&^&^* )_(_*) you

  • @700kotchi : Have you calmed down, yet? I hope you're having a pleasant holiday season.

  • It's a Sham (pun intended) that circumstances were as they were. We could have possibly seen Secretariat and Ruffian in the same field. Granted he probably beats her 9 times out of 10 but to see them two on the same track would have been a sight to behold

  • The disciples marvelled to Jesus on the beauty of the temple and other buildings of Jerusalem, and Jesus replied, "Truly, I say to you, not one stone will be left standing upon another." 40 years later, the Romans destroyed the temple, proving that he knew what he was saying. We're all passing through time.

  • @buzzclick500 What the fuck are you talking about--it's a horse race you dumb cunt!!!!

  • @700kotchi : Ee-yup, just as I thought...CANADA. We're all riled up about the wrong border down here. ;])

  • Super Horse is right!!!

  • The Secretariat is one of the five principal "organs" of the United Nations--the central point of "official" communism. Around this time, the United Nations had admitted communist China to membership, and EXCLUDED Taiwan, which is a Capitalist nation(everyone say "He-e-e-lll-o-o-o?!). So, WHY did his owners give him that name? It would only make sense to certain people.

  • @buzzclick500 I think you're a little nuts..... the woman who was Penny Chenery's father's accountant, all around office manager thought of the name. They had come up with several names which were rejected because already taken or maybe other reasons. Finally Elizabeth Hamm thought of Secretariat, and I also think I remember she thought of the name for another reason but can't remember. In almost 40 yrs you're the first person to make an issue of it... we all KNOW about the U.N.

  • @bon1042 : "A little nuts...."? Wow, most of my FRIENDS don't put it that nicely. Thanks. "In almost 40 years you're the first person to make an issue of it...." So, someone DID make an issue of it at the time? Or are you saying I'm the FIRST person EVER to make an issue of it? At any rate, everything happens for a reason, and at the exact right time. Fascinating. ;])

  • @bon1042 : I just had a whiz-bang of a thought: maybe all the OTHER horses had something done to THEM to slow them down. Pincay was smacking HIS mount like crazy, but just couldn't get anything out of him...it's kind of a hobby of mine to look at unusual things from every possible angle. Too much Perry Mason and Hawaii Five-0, maybe.

  • @buzzclick500 tell you what.... it may ground you and get you focused if you read Bill Nack's bio of Secretariat which Red Smith is quoted on back as saying..... "the next best thing to watching Sec run!" The races, his 2 yr Baywatch, The Hopeful, and TC races, all, are tension filled and thrilling to read. THEN you would learn also about Sham ridden by Laffit Pincay (pronounced 'pink-eye') and others and you wldn't have to exhaust your brain dreaming up conspiracy theories.

  • @bon1042 : I sure as heck wish you could remember her reason.... ;]

  • @buzzclick500 I'll look thru ALL my Secretariat material. Actually I think it's in either Nack's amazing bio or Raymond Woolfe's beautiful beautiful-photo-laden bio. I think Miss Hamm's idea may have had something to do with the U.N.

  • @bon1042 in my experience, you're the first person to obsess about the "communist infiltrated" U.N. because this wondrous thoroughbred was named Secretariat. As I said in other post just now, I think the U.N. Secretariat may be what she thought of. I'll try to find it. But in meantime.... you really need that chill pill.

  • @bon1042 : Well, most of the passion about the whole thing has subsided, and I got scolded for polluting the site today, which I deserved. I didn't mean to be the one to drop a chewed corn cob into the punch bowl. I just have a tendency to see stuff that a lot of people don't see.

  • @buzzclick500 that can be a positive thing.... but with some of the things you say, it borders on delusional. And I'm not saying that to be offensive.

  • @bon1042 : You've seen my channel. You have the right to form your own opinions. I don't censor, and I rarely edit. I monitor myself. But anyway, back to this great moment in horse racing. ;])

  • @buzzclick500 yes... but anybody can form an opinion, but it doesn't much if it isn't based on facts. You have the right to form your own opinion, but not your own facts. I saw a few things that bothered me, specifically the seig heil material.

  • @bon1042 Secretariat was the fastest racehorse of all time, but you sir are the fast cum guzzler of all time!

  • @bon1042 I think calling this guy nuts was the understatement of the year !

  • @buzzclick500 You're also the guy that loves to throw it out there that Secretariat was on drugs too.I bet you're a blast at a party !

  • @VVSlayton1 : I'm not going to interfere with what people want to believe. There's a painting by Tiepolo titled, "Time Unveiling Truth".

  • @buzzclick500 Say hello to Oliver Stone for me !

  • @VVSlayton1 : ;])

  • Nobody's fooling anybody.

  • @buzzclick500 I can't argue with what you say here, may even agree. But this has nothing to do with this wonderful magnificent horse and what we watched him do in 1972 and 1973.

  • @bon1042 : A lot of very intense political situations were going on during that time period. People did things they would ordinarily never thought of doing. Look at the dollar sign on your keyboard. It has one vertical line running through it, whereas machines previous to 1972 had TWO lines. Nixon took us off the gold standard in August of 1971. That's not a big deal--that's a HUGE political action, affecting every aspect of American life. A perfect opportunity for crooks.

  • @bon1042 : Right down to the most miniscule aspects of our lives.

  • @bon1042 : I'm not disagreeing that he was a good horse, but if they had named him something else besides "Secretariat", I would never have had a reason to give the whole thing a second thought. See what I mean?

  • @buzzclick500 .... no...??

  • @buzzclick500 While it's good to have crazy people out there like you who take something like the name of a horse and run with it into these weird insane theories (because you keep things balanced), it doesn't mean it's not slightly annoying to watch a video about a race horse and see some idiot trying to connect his name to a political agenda at the time and a conspiracy that includes every other jockey and horse he raced against.

    Take a chill pill.

  • @fatsomamacheese : I know. I did think about that(after the fact)after some of my exchanges. This is a nice group of people who enjoy a great sport(I'm quite the amateur handicapper myself). I want everyone to have a great Thanksgiving weekend and ignore and forget my uncalled-for interruptions--there are plenty of other sites available for that sort of thing. Sorry. Great username, by the way.

  • zenyatta who?

  • BULLS**T. Hype, politics, drugs and manipulation of public opinion.

  • @buzzclick500 sorry buzzie.... but this is not hype, politics, drugs or manipulation of public opinion.. Let's see, I'm 68 and you're 56.. that made you 18 when all this happened. So you're old enough to know better. It's heartbreaking that you evidently didn't at the time, and can't feel and experience this event now. But on looking at your sight... I can completely understand why. Seig Heil ! And BTW, sorry to upset you but Jeses WAS Jewish.

  • @bon1042 : When I was 18, people "went senile"--a nice, homey reference to someone in their dotage. Now, senior people get "Alzheimer's disease", for which someone named Alzheimer(or their estate)gets a nice royalty check for getting their name on an "officialized" condition. I would have to dub that "manipulation of public opinion"...for profit. We've created a world in which nothing is simple, or is what it appears to be.

  • @bon1042 : Oh, looking at my SITE. Yes, I'm interested in a fairly wide spectrum of subject matter. Intense curiosity is definitely one of my character features. I have pretty much everything I want, now I'm interested in learning what OTHER people want, so I can figure out ways to get it to them.

  • Wow got to way in here... if I may? Both great horses that we may never see the likes of again. Still if I had to choose, one horse on one day, to run for my life it would be "Big Red".

I think the competition was much greater then, with sounder horses and less medication. SO its big red for me.

  • @elusivepjo and Secretariat never was given medication. Even when there was "something" going around in the barn, when Secretariat sneezed and someone suggested meds just be safe, Lucien said "NO!!, no drugs, no drugs !" Not even medicine, he didn't want anything put into this horse.

  • If Secretariat was around now, you would be able to buy the Nike Secretariat's, and he'd have a commercial asking people "What Should I Do?"

  • Zenyatta is great, but Secretariat she is not.

  • @RCTPatriot75

Lol TOTAL fail on your part idiot. Secretariat is a HE and faced one of the toughest Triple Crown fields ever. Sham was probably the equivalent to Z. And Secretariat smashed that horse to smithereewns in the Belmont.

  • @queenluciaa

Read that poster's post again, genius. The post is grammatically and factually correct. Look, I'll help you out: Zenyatta = Female; Secretariat = Male. This IS what the post said.

Perhaps, in the future, you will not be so quick to flaunt your idiocy in matters of reading comprehension.

"Never argue with a moron. He will only drag you down to his level, and beat you with experience."

Original poster = NOT a moron. You = Moron.

Better luck in your future endeavors. Carry on

  • Out with the old in with the NEW. WE NEED A TRIPLE CROWN RACE IN THE WEST COAST. I say do away with the Preakness and move the middle leg to SANTA ANITA. East coast horses always always!!! have AN EDGE. Hello everyone, Home Field Advantage. Sham could could not adjust to the Air Pressure, Temperature, Humidity and most Importantly JET LAG. Sham would have annilated secretariat at Santa Anita; Just the way J.O. Tobin devoured seattle slew at Hollywood Park. Something to think about.. Peace

  • Dream on!

  • @rodd7 If you had any knowledge about horse racing you would have know Seattle Slew was ill before that race. Taking shots before he made the trip out west. Read Steve Haskins article about it from Bloodhorse then you might know something. The Derby, Preakness and Belmont were all different tracks. No matter what rack Secretariat raced on Shame would have not been a match for him. Ask Laffit Pincay or watch his video interview when he said Secretariat was the best of all time. So some research.

  • @rscarbro100 don't tell me someone is now knocking Seattle Slew. what is the matter with people? If it isn't Secretariat (who seems to be a favorite among the detractors), now it's the great Seattle Slew. They pushed him too hard when they took him to CA, is that right? I'm too tired to research now. But there's a good lengthy video on here about Slew. Imagine, he died on 25th anniversary of his Derby win, in his stall, quietly, with his handlers present. The old guy was tired.

  • @bon1042 Slew had a advertising campaign for Xerox, which had just come out with a new high-quality X-ray machine for horses. Turner had to take Slew to Dr. William Reed’s clinic three times in five days, because that’s where the machine was. Each time, he had to tranquilize him. When they shipped to California, Slew had to be tranquilized for the fourth time. He was dull before and during the race and never ran a lick. Those transquilizing shots took a lot out of him.source:Steve Haskins

  • @rscarbro100 poor fella... when he died I saw photos of him on line when older... standing with his head down blanket over his back, groom was standing very close holding shank and watching him closely. He looked tired. I've wondered how much demands of breeding affect them. Didn't Slew have at least 2 back surgeries. I read Whirlaway at 14 had just come back fm breeding shed, about 10 min later he dropped of a heart attack. Read same of another but can't remember which.

  • @bon1042 I am not sure if he did have back surgery but in the back of my mind I do believe I read somewhere he did. I will check. I don't believe it had any effect on his breeding though. He came back as a 4 year horse almost dying and had a spectacular season. He was one hell of a horse for sure.

  • @rscarbro100 I just meant after he was retired fm racing, going to the breeding shed a couple hundred times a year... pretty hard on any stallion. Whirlaway came back fm breeding shed and dropped dead of a heart attack, he was 14.

  • just like the "chosen one" of any sport, (i.e. Prefontaine, Michael Jordan, Jack Nicklaus, Muhhamed Ali, etc), they KNOW they have the gift, they KNOW they are better than ANY OTHER HORSE or player in the field. That is why they start out last, front-run and do other things that defy logic....because there is not any horse on that track that will beat them, nor is there any horse that exists or will be born ever again that can beat him. Secretariat knew. Just pure greatness. Pay your respects.

  • Nothing can touch that horse, never in all history and future will it be duplicated.

  • He was a huge sensation back then. I felt it as a young child. It's the only race horse I've ever remembered or knew the name of. His name and pics were everywhere! I felt the love for him. Hope he really was treated exceptionaly well too. I always wondered about the memory of him...if future folks would know of him. I'm so happy that they made that movie about him. He'll never be forgotten.

  • I saw the movie secretariat today, awesome! The real Penny Chenery was in it at the last part! What an amazing horse!

  • wish i had a horse like that, i love him

  • I felt so bad for Penny having to sell Mr. Chenery's stable after he died and she broke down in the end. This movie was a truly breathtaking piece of art. There will never be another of its kind.

  • @Mr6shotns240s when did she break down, did you read this?

  • @bon1042 thats the ending of the sercetariat

  • I just saw the movie. It was awesome.

  • @ronwood1220 Hi, I did too, but I was disappointed. Some say it's being a purist, but no. Stick w/Nack's bio...opening with, rainy cold night, March 29, 1970, a call fm foaling barn to Howard Genty, farm mgr, to get down there. Show a long shot described in book, one lone light way back in dark corner of field. Wallace says not a documentary, that he doesn't let facts get in way of "truth." He means a sacred truth. Too much Disney, "Oh Happy Day" in the Belmont stretch really blew it for me.

  • Just saw the movie. It was awesome.

  • The move that Secretariat made at the Preakness should not be possible.

  • @TheCLB as Clem Florio of DRF (he's the guy on part 2 who says, "come'on, let him run, let's see what this guy can do.." said after the race, "horses just DON'T do this, they'd end up at the laundry on Belvedere Avenue." :) :) :)... but as Turcotte always said with this champion... "like a hoop around a barrel"

  • Watching this really chokes me up - I can't explain it fully - but - there is something about watching greatness that moves me deeply. Thanks for posting!

  • @gatesofpearl yep he outrun those leaders like its the final stretch already..haha
