  • i love you

  • Thanks I made a new pranking channel and I wanted to add subtitles. The channel is called mrtrollfaceyoumad. I upload videos every saturday

  • Your an absolute legend mate i have been struggling to put subtitles in my vids and now i know how. Cheers mate

  • @Bentleyspeed81 Thanks mate!

  • Nicely put. Thanks very much.

  • @gurujpf66 So i select the section I want and I drag the "lower title" thing onto it, but the when I hover what im dragging over the selected part, the computer just selects the whole movie :| can you help?

  • @SuperKiwiPop Sure what you need to do is after the computer selects the whole clip, select the title above the clip, you will see it is circled by a yellow line (that tells you it is selected) now trim the title like it was a clip, also you can move it freely across your clip, or you can do it the long way... select the title and press the inspector button (circle button with an "i") or while title is selected do "cmd i" a window will come up and there you can set the duration of the clip!

  • @gurujpf66 omg thanks so much! You've saved my life! x

  • Thanks!!! VERY VERY VERY HELPFUL!! You should make more tutorial videos. I will watch and learn! Dude, ur soooooo freakin' awesome!!!

  • @HubbaDoodle Thanks a lot!!!

  • vey helpful...thanks

  • Thanks, that was very helpful

  • muy bueno!!!! very good!

  • I wonder if you know if it is possible to import subtitles from the software Aegisubs (softsubs) and if it is only possible to have hardsubs?

  • @AsianPopSweden No you can't import subs on iMovie :( but you can totally change the properties of the subtitle, just click on the subtitle and then click on the inspector button (cmd i) and you can change transparency, duration and color of the sub

  • So what do I do when I have a long klipp with a lot of talking?

  • @TheRickeMovies first of all don't try to do it all at once, try to do it in parts, depending on how long is the clip, if you are doing let's say 45 min, it will take you a while, do a couple hours a day, use markers at the end of every session, when you work on it again, just click on the marker and you can start exactly where left off.

  • Very nice demonstration. Thanks for your help.

  • Thanks a lot for this tip , it was all the time in front of us … but YOU … and dear Liz ;-) showed us in a very good and easy way how to do . I'm too far away from Liz ….. pfffffff ….but you can give her a biggggggggggg kisssssssss and hug from me … XO ;-)

    Pleasant days ,

    Greetings from Belgium ;-)

  • @gymnast5281 Thank so much, wish I could get paid!, but just helping people and getting good comments is good enough for me

  • thank you!! :D

  • OH MY JEGUS THANK YOU.

  • can you add text from a word document

    lyle

    lsardie@yahoo.com

  • @lsardie No you can't sorry, what you could do would be copy and paste, but that would take a long time...

  • Cool!... what if ypu wanna use the same format for all the subtitles in your movie... can you copy or make the format default?

mine it's not a full length or anything, but I do have a few subtitles, and after I got all the fonts and colors, it seems like a pain to set it all again when adding a new title

  • @pachakutek sure you can, there are two ways you can do this, when you are done with the first title copy an empty space in between words, then just paste for the next title, fonts, style size and color will be carried over, check my iMovie tips and tricks video I go over that on that tutorial... now if you want to make your style the defult just go iMovie>Preferences then select the fonts tab and there you can change your default fonts. Hope that helped!!

  • @gurujpf66 Thanks for the quick response!

I achieved to copy the titles (with format) by holding "option" key, and dragging the title onto some other piece of clip (needs to be dropped on the filmstrip itself - dropping it atop of the filmstrip, which seemed natural, was creating a background clip).

That was helpful - but still time consuming for many many subtitles.... I think I'm gonna look at your suggestions on making it default.

  • DUDE THANK U!!!!!!!

  • Great help thank you!

  • Thanks a lot! ^^!

  • Thanks!! Really helpful video!!

  • Thanks, good video, tells you what you want to know quick. The one thing I'm not sure on is what happens when you edit the clip with the subtitles on, ie, if you shorten it will you need to change the subtitle also, but I guess that'll become apparent when I'm doing it.

  • @sing2speak Thanks!! yeah you'll definitively need to adjust, the text has its own time duration so if you shorten the clip the timing of the subtitle might be off

  • Wonderful! Thank you! I've only just started making videos for my crafting tutorials and, while I've learned a lot in the little over a week I've been making them, I couldn't figure out how to add text to some of my clips. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I can't wait to use my new knowledge! :)

  • @JustBloggin1 You are welcome!! :)

  • Hi, Nice Video but what program do you use for recording the screen? Grtz

  • YOU ARE AWESOME!! THNX MAN!

  • Hi!! i have a problem with this. Each time i have to add a subtitle i have to do the font adjustment from the beginning. I mean, that I can not select and add as default a particular size, color, typeface, font, for every sub. Also, the text shadow doesn' work.

    Can you help? Thank you.

  • @JazzinGreek I go over something like that in my second tutorial, "iMovie 09 Tips and tricks" make sure to check it out, if you have more questions after that pls let me know...

  • @gurujpf66 ok. Thank you so much. I'll check it out.

  • you are awesome!

  • hey could you make a tutorial that shows you how you make subtitles to a youtube movie for mac? it would really help

  • @epicfillerman You mean how to upload a movie project to youtube?

  • @gurujpf66 no, i mean that if you can add subtitles to a video that you have already uploaded on youtube

  • @gurujpf66 jeje q bn d dnde es??

  • @SaitamMRG

Is there a way you can add two texts at once?

  • Thank you!

  • is there a way to add a logo to a video??

  • @buttcheeks05 yes u can!, all you need, is to have your logo ready and on the iPhoto library, then just like on the subtitles video, click on the picture button and add it to the clip, the controls are very similar, if you have more questions let me know!

  • @gurujpf66 -yeah one more question, umm when i add the logo it fills up the whole screen i just want to have a little logo on the lower bottom of a vid. & it doesnt let me edit it besides deleting it . is there some way of putting it where you want it @ ??

  • @buttcheeks05 yeah!, when you first add the logo, there is a light green line arround the logo click on a corner and reduce the size of the logo and you can move as you please just like in photoshop.

  • @clarahong1 Thanks!!! don't forget to check my other tutorials

  • GREAT!!! post more!

How could i trim a video and add them the subtitle that you have explained to us?

  • @solerlorena simple!! from the event window (lower window) select and draw the parts that you need to your project window (upper window) then to add the subtitles just do it like my video tutorial :)

  • GREAT!!! post more!

  • Awesome, thanks!

  • gracias!

  • Thanks!

  • is there anyway to disable the text from fading out? meaning the text would appear and disappear instantly.

  • @coMpLekS1 Sorry it took me soooo long to reply.... sure there is a way!!! select the subtitle that you want to change, then click on the inspector button (rounded symbol with an "i") under fade in/out click on manual and then set time to 0

  • @gurujpf66 np, thanks man!

  • gracias senor!

  • @xTomcatsForeverVF84x De nada!!!

  • Thank you sooo much

  • Great stuff! Thanks for sharing.

  • This is how I thought it would be, just looking at videos to try and see if I can find any tips. These commenters are correct though move 09 was ruined by the new guy that was head designer, hopefully we will see an imovie '11 with a new design

  • Damn, the title feature of imovie is so restricted. Theres no way to add actual subtitles

  • Really good! Thanks

  • Thank you for this video =)

  • gracias. this helped a lot!

  • ok forget it, i still have problems. I can now add subtitles to portions of a video, but when exporting the video, only those clips i extracted from the original to the "project" window are there. How do I export the full video correctly with subtitles included?

  • @windextube ok, you just need to build your projects as you go, select the clips that you need, add the subtitles, then add the rest of the clips that you need, the top "project" is what you are exporting. If this doesn't help, you could send a personal reply video with more details. I really want to help you.

  • Oh god thanks for this. For a mac application, iMovie is not user friendly at all.

  • Hi gurujp66. Thanks for showing us how to put subtitles in imovie... How do I add a solid colour behind the text?

  • @snuggerzoid first u need to select soft white title then select it and click on the editor, then u can changa the not only the color but it's opacity too, for more info, make sure to check my other tutorials, click on the link at the end of this tutorial.

  • Thanks, I enjoyed your subtitle movie

  • But if I have to make like 10 subtitle bars how do I set the default so everything is the same font/size/color?

  • @jonnyXrice at the end of this tutorials I have a link to my other tutorials, check the iMovie tips and tricks on that tutorial I talk about that.

  • thanks for the tutorial this is my fist time working in imovie and i love the hight quality in mac

  • Thanks!!! I do have iMovie '09!

  • I was wondering, would this be able to be an option on the dvd. For example, can I have this as a subtitle option on the DVD, instead of making it permanent into the video? If you can't do it here, can you please refer me to somewhere/other program that can do this? I am using Adobe Encore, but Encore is so buggy and frustrating to use. THANKS~!!!

  • I can't tell if I have iMovie '08 or '09.

  • when did you buy your mac?

  • @gurujpf66 It's originally from March of '08. I remember installing iLife '09, but I don't know how to tell the difference between iMovie '08 and '09.

  • very simple!!! open iMovie, click iMovie on the menu bar, then click "About iMovie" and then a would see is it is 08 or 09...

  • is there a way to make it transparent?

  • Yes! you can make the text transparent, on the system font panel button you can chance the color of the font and the opacity, in order to make it transparent lower the opacity. 1:40

  • i tried that but i can't seem to appy the settings to the subtitle after i change them.

  • I'm going to make a video to show you how I did it, but give some time, ok?

  • Nice apple genuis

  • for the "lower" type subtitles, can I move the position of it?

    It seems can't

  • You can't move it freely, but you can center the text, align it to the left or right, 1:35
