  • talented lady great live

  • I had never heard of Joan until a stereo salesman friend used her stuff for an audition of equipment he was trying to sell me, in , I believe 1978. I bought the piece, but made him give me the album. she is a super singer, but her back-up band is amazing, great musicians.

  • Just saw your reply...deleted my comment

  • @CenturianRule

How do I tell you that you a dork for responding to a 1 year old comment without replying ?

Now piss off and crawl back under your rock...don't send any more replies to me.

  • @CenturianRule

Why don't YOU find something better to do than replying to 1 year old posts which have nothing to do with you ?

I asked the question to the video poster, he replied...the matter is closed.

  • how did I miss this back in the 8o's? Guess I was so into my stuff from the 60's still I never listened to the radio.

  • booooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring!!!

    Thanks!

  • joan armatrading is soooo underrated!!such a fantastic artist.i grew up on this music!:)

  • Perfect song. I had no idea.

  • No sound?

  • one of the great artists of her generation

  • Mashallah. I first heard this when I was ten years old. Loved it then, love it now. One of the defining songs of my youth.

  • This is the first time I heard her music. This woman is very underrated.

  • @DeathNote1909 Don't think she is under rated it is more unknown now. She is a great singer songwriter and a brilliant guitarist. In her day she was pretty succesful. Her day continues but you know what I mean

  • im directly related to this woman and this is the first time i've ever heard her music. just accidentaly stumbled over it while looking for my own video. irony.

  • check out love and affection, its great!

  • wow your arrogance is breathtaking, i mean i tried to see things from your point of view but i couldn't fit my head up your asshole too.

  • @bjorkish68

ha, ha ha, wonderful. I think ill actually use that line in the future if you don't mind, Its ingenious, I'm not even being sarcastic, i genuinely appreciate the humour in that comment. Although, i must say you have me mistaken ah too lazy to type anymore, thanks though.

  • At the time I was dating who is now my wife and she hear Joan play at BG in Ohio and I fell in love with her music

  • my first love!

  • If you want to talk about what this reminds you of... For me it reminds me of Australian Crawl, e.g. Reckless. Not that it's totally the same, just a hint.

  • Nice

  • I absolutey loved this track back then. I was only six years old. Timeless, genius pop music.

  • LUV this song and this version of it...thanks so much....when I first heard it footage of any was rare.....thanx

  • This may sound like The Noisettes' 'Never Forget You' as the chorus, i think the black girl copied Joan's lyrics of 'Me Myself I' as the bridge chorus, but the original is now excluded on many compilation albums.

But it only remains on Joan's greatest hits compilation.

  • This was the first song i ever heard from her

brought the "album" and have loved her ever since! yes i'm very old by now -lol

  • It's interesting that Joan looks unconvincing singing 'I want to have a boyfriend' and looks quite happy at the 'girl for laughs' line.

  • wow nice awesome band

  • yeah i reckon

  • i grow up with this my father had an album i am dutch but i like her

  • Superb track, shouldn't have wasted so much money on the video though.

  • This Joan Armatrading video did come out a year before MTV - It was like she was working with a white sheet of paper on making a video -- I think she did fine, for that time

  • @danastev924 Do you actually think that she made the video herself????

  • hahahaha!

  • I love this song. Awesome!

  • most the best bands and singers were underatted, anyhow J A is pure talent

  • This is a beautiful song. I remember it from 1980- thx for posting

  • would you people call david bowie also that kind of musician?

when i listen to his music it do9es not look like hes acting or something...just authentic stuff like joan.

  • Comment removed

  • what makes her so good?

    - she is a singer

    - she sings her own lyrics

    - its her composition aswell

    - she allways choosed good musicians, people like lionel ritchie in BACKING vocals

stop the doo doo fuss about commercial or not, she's one of the most AUTHENTIC persons in music of that time period, and thats why she is allready classical music.

  • Of all the songs to have a blue on, honestly guys, grow up. Stop arguing. We all like the song, that's it - period.

  • Wow. Quit fighting. It's a good song. It has nearly 100,000 views even if it WAS a budget video. People come to hear the song, not look at high-tech videos.

Great song, thanks for posting this.... *looks up* Roscoz

  • Such a great song and performer. Love this video too, with it's budget production values and Joan at a high point of her singular weirdness and cuteness! Too bad the audio is stuffed, but I don't care- thanks for posting this.

  • Right...

Sticking my nose in on YouTube comments? Please. I suppose you thinking something like that would prove you're 47.

And look... Duran Duran was um...just a bit bigger than Armatrading, as I'm sure you know oh wise one, hence the better video in the day. That's the common sense I still say you're lacking. I mean please...you complained about the video quality of 1980 music video for crying out loud!

    Anyway, I'm done here.

  • A lot of artists were bigger than Armatrading, which is why her music is not only relevant but valuable. During a time when artists like her were not considered "commercial material", her company and producers stood behind her while she wrote/produced/performed her own music, by her own right. She is truly one artist who has been under-appreciated in her time, and is still persevering in music to date, all for the love of it. Just like the likes of Duran Duran.

  • She is awesome

  • so ein geiles Lied

  • love this woman!

  • Good song but the video looks like I shot it on my phone

  • were you alive then

  • What does that mean ?

  • if you mean was alive when this video was made then yes ,but I didnt have a mobile phone as they werent invented so whats your point?

  • senescence4's point CHANNELOMD is quite clear. The year was 1980. Take a look at its contemporaries, as they are equally lo-fi as per the technology of the day.

If you were alive then as you say you were, you are obviously still not old of enough to have some common sense.

  • Whats this got to do with you gobshite? Duran Duran made Girls on film in 1981 and quality is far superior to this video made about the same time. So I was born at the time 1961,and unike you I do know that the quality of the video(but not the song is poor)in comparison to other videos of the time,so shut the fuck up.

  • Nice manners.

  • I think you will find you started this by 1. sticking your nose in ,and not in a nice way

2.Implying I was lying about my age

3.Indicating I was lacking common sense.

I think you should get your facts straight before gobbing off

  • Pele...

  • Have you ever thought about starting the song from the beginning ?

  • It did occur to me.. unfortunately it didn't occur to the TV broadcast

  • nice.

  • @Roscoz

merci Roscoz, just gnore that ..people dont appreciate good things!

  • wow. 1980 and no jerry curls. the music sounds 80s but it looks 70s.

  • 1980 was still a lot 70's and the song was probably actually put together in 79 anyway

  • Christ, I'm 18 again. There's not many songs that can put you back in '80 with such power.

  • I love this song. Fuck the clip

  • Man, it never fails. You get a female performer who writes or performs consistently strong material and the cry soon goes up of whether or not she's gay. Any of you care to enlighten me as to how her gender preference is in any way relevant to enjoying her work? The best music of all is that which is ambiguously universal enough to appeal to listeners all across the board. PS: Artists don't "contribute" songs to shows, the shows "license" the songs from the record company.

  • Amen, Roskomaximus. Very well said.

  • Janis Ian - Tracy Chapman - Phebe Snow - Joan Armatrading - Annie DeFranco - Gender pref adds flavor. Not PC but that don matter to me.

  • you go salina!!

  • Why do they always say Michael Jackson was the first black on MTV, when this was one of the earliest vids I remember seeing on MTV back in 82?

  • I have this album on vinyl which I finally played a couple months ago, but I don't remember this song from 1980. I like it and I read the E Street Band played on it.

  • This song DEFINES the summer of 1980.

  • I love the tune. I have alot of her music on my ipod

  • great tune..

  • Top song, no-matter what she is.

  • Takes me back to the 80s' saw her many times usually in Southampton UK. So many good memories, always always a really good night out! x

  • i have seen her at a concert last year,,

she's got a great voice very powerfull.

  • she's often singing about a male love interest in her songs, but then again so was janis ian in the 70s. but i don't think its relevant to anyone and is joan's own business. either way she's one of my favourite songwriters and guitarists ever. wonderful woman!

  • Oh, man... what a moment. Remembering is like living again.

  • Awesome

  • Great Song! Takes me back to the eighties.

  • not sure if she is a lesbian, but does it matter? I am a hetero male and absolutely love Queen. Because Freddie Mercury was gay it didnt stop me liking their music. Yeah Joan has some pretty good songs that get you tapping away. Thanks for the post takes me back to driving around in my first car mid 1980's

  • :D .....

  • Not at all..I love Joan and was just wondering.

  • One of the MOST underrated artists of our time! JA is what I call what I call talent at its best!

  • Is she a lesbian?

  • Is the sky blue?

  • Yes she's a lesbian...she's contributed a number of her songs to the L-word..a lesbian based series.

  • Hi,I am proud of her and if she is Lesbian like most of 20% of women who can blame her with the stupid guys hanging around waiting to be taken cared of and don`t want any responsibility and think that women should do all the work, `I think get a life` I don`t want a life like that, do you!

  • you dont got to worry, we are all getting foreign wives nowadays anyways.

  • And I say `good luck to you mate, hope you understand these foreign girls, I suppose it doesn`t matter if she does your dirty laundry for you, pick up your sock and take your shoes off, I just hope I`m sending this to a real man, if you are then I would be proud of you, I love men but sometimes you just have to prove how great you all are? Don`t we all!

  • brilliant. i'm 27 years old. wish i had known her when i was younger.

    she is soooooo cool.

  • Certainly one that comes with me to my desert island! Haven't seen the vid for years - thanks.

  • A most of the general public have never even heard of her. What a shame their lost!

  • I haven't seen this since 1980, when i was 14, remember liking it then. thanks for posting

  • Criminally underrated

  • Quite forgotten this one. How could I do that to myself. Thank you for posting

  • Great,great,great song.What a huge talent she is.

  • angry song

  • one of the original, magnificent voices and talents of our time. "but only on saturdays--six days to be alone." i want that on my tombstone.

  • a good friend of mine thought that the words were(ME MY SOFA!) LOL!

  • i love this song

  • The theme song for only children - well, for me anyway!

  • I`ve just watched someone called Mandy Moore slaughtering Drop The Pilot...You can`t get better than total perfetion which is what Joans songs are..they can not get any better,so leave her stuff alone you silly woman!!

  • There used to be a video of drop the pilot but it must have been taken off! I met her after her last concert - incredible woman!!

  • it was on youtube with the flyer. must've been taken out

  • How I love this song !

  • no where on youtube is there a video of her doing Drop the Pilot???????????

one of the best songs of the 80s and no one has it

  • I know! I was looking for it too. When I was a kid living in Europe I remember watching her singing it on Top Of The Pops. I ran out the next day and bought the 45. I still have it: picture cover with lyrics on the back!

  • xellant!!

  • Isn't that the same weird-looking chair used in Dire Straits' "Skateaway" video?

  • wow, that would be freaky, the same props as dire straits :0

  • Don't remember seeing that in "Skateaway", but the chair is prominently displayed on the cover of the Me Myself I album.
