You'll need full canyoneering gear and experience to go through this canyon. I wouldn't consider it one of the most technical slot canyons out there but you definitely need to know what you are doing and have all the required gear as with any technical slot canyon. Rappeling through technical slot canyons such as this should not be attempted by anyone unless they are experienced or are going with someone who is.
@KnuckleDragger2070 I agree and disagree. I agree that you need knowledge to pass through this canyon with some technical. I would recommend to go through the EAST fork of Blue John witch in my opinion is the more challenging of the forks. Saying this is the most technical of slot canyons out there is were I have to disagree. Alcatraz and Larry are by for more technical then anything Blue John has to offer. I first went through Blue John in the mid 90s 9years old with my dad.
@niksinthe916 I think you misunderstood. This is not "the most technical of slot canyons out there". There are most definitely more difficult canyons. It is just good to not underestimate any canyon. Blue John got a lot of exposure this year and a lot of day hikers want to go down the canyon to see it. I think we need to help people be aware of what is required to do this canyon and the risks involved.
Rangers went back a couple days after to retrieve what was left of his arm and brought it back. Aron had his hand cremated. When he went back to the same spot 6 months after with Dateline, he spread his ashes in the same spot.
Hey - I just wondered why it is you laugh and say "just kidding" after saying "today's the 19th of, what is it? June?". I'm guessing because of the heat - June would be too hot to be canyoneering in the Utah desert?
Anyway, great video. I'm hoping to visit the US in the next couple of years - feel a desperate urge to see that amazing scenery.
Thanks. That is my friend. He just mixed up his words...it was pretty hot that day though so maybe he was being sarcastic. If I remember right, he just mixed up his words. Temps in the utah desert in June can be unbearable in some areas. I actually prefer to do some canyons during that time though because some of them are so narrow that they stay cool all year round, especially if they have water in the canyon. Very nice to come out of cold water into the warm heat.
We went through the canyon 5 years after Aron's accident so there was no evidence anything ever happened. Flash floods go through there quite a bit and wash things away. If there ever was any blood remaining, it would have been washed away pretty quick.
This story is so amazing! If he (Aron) didnt took his stuff like rope and stuff, he couldn't get down from that stone. Everything is amazing in this story, so iz Aron!
Hey there, good video, I'm just curious if you could possibly give map co-ordinates to the Aron Ralston rock? I'm wanting to find the location on a map. Thanks
Thanks. I don't have the map co-ordinates. I did have my GPS that day but the signal is pretty much non-existant when you get deep into those canyons. We carried Aron's book with us which made the trip a bit more interesting to read his comments during sections of the canyon. The pictures in the book made it very easy to recognize where he was trapped when we got to that point. It isn't hard to mistake as long as you're looking for it.
@KnuckleDragger2070 Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I live in the UK so me actually visiting this place is a long shot, I was just curious as to where abouts the canyon is in relation to the size of the desert.
@EBHERNANDEZ7 someone from either the police, hospital, or some kind of authority went back to the canyon and his arm was cremated, Aron Ralston has the ashes of it.
I highly doubt the rope left behind was Aron's. His accident happened in 2003 and we didn't go through until 2008. The rope didn't look like it had been hanging there for 5 years. That would be cool if it was his though. I think it is more likely that someone else just didn't have enough rope and had to single strand the rappel.
@KnuckleDragger2070 im thinking about that comment i put just now and your probably right haha i saw the movie awhile ago and he left that rope there so it just came to mind haha
and that rope that "someone" left behnd was left behind by Aron Ralston

@MrTitanicfanatic2
Make no mistake, the rope shown in the video IS NOT one left behind by Aron Ralston.

they shoved a rock wwhere the arm was..... why? I get that they want it to stay there but still... why?

Wouldn't the spot be simple to recognise because he carved his name into the canyon wall as well?

@Rozski He went back 6 months later and rubbed it out of the wall.

I think "chopped" his arm off is a bit of an understatement. He tore through it with a dull knife.

what about his hand...was it taken out or just covered with dirt.

@Bradsworld1 No it is not. Police found the rope and his backpack. Aron told on the hospital where it was so they could go and get it for him.
TeamFruit 1 year ago
@Bradsworld1 In his book Aron describes how a friend of his picked up all his things a few weeks later going thru the canyon, so it is not his rope.
