some mexican team redid this game where every char is playable and they each have super meters, they did it through mugen and it's pretty funny actually. amazing that they put the time in it, either way..if you haven't played it..def worth the dl, it was free ;)
@TubeKnow it is. ive played it at a dave and busters once. the damage ratio is completely broken and unless u know the uppercut, the game is completely stacked against you in later fights
@mcfry13 lol. it would be boring to fight with a broken dmg like that. 1 or 2 hits and ur dead? im glad i started with sf 2. the best streef fighter in my opinion.
@JaggedJoe19 Even though several of its features have been done before in the '80s, it was a smash-hit like its predecessor, but much larger. And despite Fighter's History by Data East looking like it lacks originality while suffering a court case, it was also an out-and-out success, but its series soon became underrated and criminally overlooked, especially outside of Japan. Nowadays, very few fighting games are being developed.
Man, I remember playing this game as a kid. The moves were so hard to actually achieve that we would just jam the controls into the hadoken movement the whole round to win the matches. The real challenge for me, my brother, and my friends was to beat the game with just one quarter, which was very hard, but we managed to do it over. Another detail that many people don't know is that the first original arcade, had only two big buttons that would actually sense the pressure that you push the button
@QwietStorm no not really, but im kind of new to SF1 actually x) but ive played street fighter since I got it on my sega megadrive back in 1994,well at that time it was my brothers, but ive played it as long i can remember x)

Isn't the reason why Sagat HAS his scar on his chest is because of a DP from Ryu? So wouldn't it make sense, story wise, to have it instakill if done properly?
Plus all of the "Special Moves" were ridiculously overpowered in SF1. When playing against other Humans it basically was whoever pulled off either the most fireballs or Helicopter Kicks... or hell just juked the shit out of the controller while frantically pressing punch won.

@pratikh Rather than being an unintentional mix up, I think it was fully intentional on the part of Capcom U.S. to swap around the name of Balrog, M. Bison, and Vega. No. Its official that Mike is a different character then Mike Bison/Balrog. Maybe Mike was Mike Bison/Balrog's base like Geki was to Vega, but as characters they are seperate people.
What wiki? Wikipedia? The article I'm looking at there says he is probably the PRECURSOR to Balrog/Mike Bison. Which is most likely true. But being the prototype or the base doesn't mean he is the same character. Capcom has said multiple times that Balrog/Mike Bison is not the same character as Mike. They most likely based him on Mike, but he is NOT Mike as of Capcom's words.
@metaXzero Dude, read futher down to 'Balrogs/M.Bison's' bio...here I quote it:
(A character named Mike, who was also an African-American boxer, appears in the original Street Fighter. Mike is considered to be a prototype of Balrog due to their similar names (when one considers Balrog's Japanese name of Mike Bison) and backstories.[14] Capcom has stated that both characters are "probably one and the same".[15])
Seriously? Not even Capcom's employees can agree on this? The last few decades have been them being insistent they AREN'T the same characters. Now this girl comes up with "probably they are" after years of others saying "NO they are not". More inconstencies for the SF canon. yahoo....
@pratikh Amusingly, they weren't "mixed up." The names of characters Balrog, M. Bison and Vega were all switched around during the US localization. Mike Bison became Balrog, because Capcom didn't want to get sued to death by Mike Tyson. Or have Mike bite their ears off. Balrog became Vega and Vega became M. Bison, which helps make SOME sense of the name switching. I'll admit, it also wouldn't be the same to hear Guile screaming VEGAAAA! to the sky over BISON!!! as well.
@wDawks I don't know, some people are genuinely nostalgic about this game. No clue why, but i've seen people defend it and wish to see some of these bootleg characters brought back.
I can see how that may be the case as I am sure I will say that SF4 is the best SF game ever made (it being my first ever played and only fighting game for that matter ever) so hey, more power to'em...I'll be like that one day.
OH AND BTW, whats being said at the end of a round? Sounds like OLEY or however its spelled..
@sonichurricanedotcom It is "alright". I'm still a fan of SF 1 too. I'm one of the old people now, I guess. I used to play it against my buddies when I was a boy. This was back when hanging out at video arcades was very cool...I think it was around 1986 or so...
@63legendary It came out in 87. I was only 3 at the time, so I missed it, but I play it occasionally with Capcom Classics Collection vol. 2 on the PS2. :)
@YiddishDancingClown Big deal doesn't necessarily mean good though, right? I don't understand how SF4 can be the worst when IMO its the closest I've seen to a game where what you want to come out and the move you're thinking of doing is the one that comes out. I know the inputs are easier, but that being said if the inputs were HARDER in previous SFs and people needed better control over their joystick movements...why can't they avoid hitting shortcuts and messing up their inputs in SF4?
@YiddishDancingClown And if difficulty is the issue then, I don't see that point being valid when a 1 frame link is as hard as it can get in a 60fps game and those 1 frame links are generally the most damaging combos in the game. Thats certainly not easy and theres a reward for that level of skill..more damage/meter gains etc. I just don't know why people don't like SF4 its a great game I think but like I said its the only one I've played extensively Are the others better? Should I play them?
@wDawks some people have problems with SF4 because they tried to hard to bring back SF2 feel back to the franchise. Some people herald this as a good move as "returning to the roots", while some people see this as "a huge step backward"
Indeed, SF4 seems a lot slower and less offensive than Third Strike (which is considered the best of the series), but I think from this point and on, it really becomes a personal preference unless you're debating which is the better "tourney game" angle.
@YiddishDancingClown Actually, it was primarily a knockoff of similar games at the time. Street Fighter II is what you're looking for, not to mention Capcom's other related works.
I did it to Birdie before, and Sagat, good luck getting that dragon punch out lol. Just wiggle the controls and its either the fireball or dragon punch, I dont choose which move Ryu does lol.
Dude you should really just do a speedrun and submit it to TASVideos, just for their completion. I mean the idea can't take long to do, right? Even if it's repetitive, it's so short and hilariously ugly that it could work. I know it would be weird to have like super compilations of guile and ryu and then...that 3 minute street fighter video, but...cmonnnnn
Nah, Sagat actually walks into the third hit. It's not a combo and i bet it's possible against most of the cast. Check out the bonus clip at the end of the video.
Ryu is now ready to sell propane and propane accessories.

When SF came to America the names were shuffled. I'm not sure why but I assume to avoid a lawsuit.

@KomikKraze you mean they were afraid of mike tyson biting their ears off.

Mike is Balrog
That was originally supposed to be his name 'Mike Bison', a spoof of boxer, 'Mike Tyson'

@pratikh It's actually supposed to be wesley snipes....
Cdsixphive0 11 months ago
@pratikh Amusingly, they weren't "mixed up." The names of characters Balrog, M. Bison and Vega were all switched around during the US localization. Mike Bison became Balrog, because Capcom didn't want to get sued to death by Mike Tyson. Or have Mike bite their ears off. Balrog became Vega and Vega became M. Bison, which helps make SOME sense of the name switching. I'll admit, it also wouldn't be the same to hear Guile screaming VEGAAAA! to the sky over BISON!!! as well.

worst game ever, I'm so glad I wasn't born 10 years earlier...

@wDawks I don't know, some people are genuinely nostalgic about this game. No clue why, but i've seen people defend it and wish to see some of these bootleg characters brought back.
sonichurricanedotcom 1 year ago
I can see how that may be the case as I am sure I will say that SF4 is the best SF game ever made (it being my first ever played and only fighting game for that matter ever) so hey, more power to'em...I'll be like that one day.
OH AND BTW, whats being said at the end of a round? Sounds like OLEY or however its spelled..
wDawks 1 year ago
@wDawks Sounds like "All Right" to me.

@sonichurricanedotcom It is "alright". I'm still a fan of SF 1 too. I'm one of the old people now, I guess. I used to play it against my buddies when I was a boy. This was back when hanging out at video arcades was very cool...I think it was around 1986 or so...
63legendary 1 year ago
@63legendary It came out in 87. I was only 3 at the time, so I missed it, but I play it occasionally with Capcom Classics Collection vol. 2 on the PS2. :)

SF4 is probably the worst in the series. This game is such a big deal because it was the precursor to every modern fighting game.
YiddishDancingClown 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown Big deal doesn't necessarily mean good though, right? I don't understand how SF4 can be the worst when IMO its the closest I've seen to a game where what you want to come out and the move you're thinking of doing is the one that comes out. I know the inputs are easier, but that being said if the inputs were HARDER in previous SFs and people needed better control over their joystick movements...why can't they avoid hitting shortcuts and messing up their inputs in SF4?
wDawks 1 year ago
You didn't say good, you said big deal. And yes, the others are immensely better.

KurenaiDISCHORD 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown And if difficulty is the issue then, I don't see that point being valid when a 1 frame link is as hard as it can get in a 60fps game and those 1 frame links are generally the most damaging combos in the game. Thats certainly not easy and theres a reward for that level of skill..more damage/meter gains etc. I just don't know why people don't like SF4 its a great game I think but like I said its the only one I've played extensively Are the others better? Should I play them?
wDawks 1 year ago
@wDawks some people have problems with SF4 because they tried to hard to bring back SF2 feel back to the franchise. Some people herald this as a good move as "returning to the roots", while some people see this as "a huge step backward"
Indeed, SF4 seems a lot slower and less offensive than Third Strike (which is considered the best of the series), but I think from this point and on, it really becomes a personal preference unless you're debating which is the better "tourney game" angle.
karanokyokkai 1 year ago
@YiddishDancingClown Actually, it was primarily a knockoff of similar games at the time. Street Fighter II is what you're looking for, not to mention Capcom's other related works.
literalgameboy 1 year ago
Without Street Fighter there would be no Street Fighter 2.
YiddishDancingClown 1 year ago
@sonichurricanedotcom Which is probably how we got Gen, and why Final Fight exists and is part of Street Fighter.

Love ryu's red shoes. Did he steal it from a woman?

Those red shoes are what makes Ryu THE BEST.

Ken's cooler than Ryu. Never understood why they made Birdie black.
Luigi84289 2 years ago
And Birdie I guess?

Check out the bonus clip at the end of the video.

guessing it only works vs sagat due to his height?
