Rush are good but King Crimson are GODS. The songs that King Crimson produced Rush only in their dreams could make so...KING CRIMSON HAVE LED MUSIC INTO ANOTHER DIMENSION. THEY ARE INCOMPARABLE. SIMPLY NOT OF PLANET EARTH. Only the retards cannot understand that..
@Poisonnachos Well, lemmie see, last time I checked, they were both prog bands, weren't they? Although, Rush has gone the way of pop, while King Crimson is still being very progressive.
@maalbe987 Or how about it fits in well with anything KING CRIMSON has put out in the last 20 years or so? You know, since this is King Crimson and it sounds like King Crimson.
@foottothenuts Good point. I supposed I could've phrased that differently. I only meant that it reminded me of recent Rush. I haven't heard any King Crimson aside from this, Court & Poseidon. So I don't know about any kind of stylistic change between 1971 & 2002. I recognize that they're a very distinct band. I just felt the need to draw the comparison.
@maalbe987 "I haven't heard any King Crimson aside from this, Court & Poseidon."
Problem is, nobody mainstream ever has either because even so-called, "progressive", radio won't ever play anything beyond their first album!! That REALLY sucks large rubber donkey donagals!!!! I just totaled up my entire King Crimson's playing time last night and I'm about 4 hours shy of 4 days worth of music!! And I don't have more than about half of the Collectors Club albums!!
@RedVynil I kinda understand where you're coming from (as a fan of a band whose songs should be played more often) but naturally a radio DJ would tend to lean more towards songs that a lot of people have at least heard of, so deep cuts are a very low possibility.
@maalbe987 The thing is, a LOT of those songs that most people know HAD to get airplay first, otherwise none of them would be known in the first place! Back in the late `60's and early `70's, radio, ESPECIALLY progressive FM radio, took LOTS of chances and played a LOT of stuff no one else would touch and it's because of them that any of that stuff ever became well known.
@maalbe987 I dig, but, trust me, I heard all kinds of great stuff on the radio then that nobody's played before or since!! Sure, SOME of those bands eventually got air play, but, mostly for their poppier stuff, radio STILL won't play their older stuff!! Or, in the case of King Crimson & Todd Rundgren, their newer stuff.
@RedVynil On the subject of newer stuff, I really wish classic rock stations would support when a classic artist releases a new album by at least playing a song or two from it.
@maalbe987 Exactly!! Todd Rundgren must have at LEAST 30 albums out and the only songs of his they play (except for "Bang The Drum All Day") are from the early `70's!!!! King Crimson's the same way!! At least 30 or 40 albums and the ONLY thing that EVER gets played, and even THAT'S a rarety, is, "21st Century Schizoid Man" or (MUCH rarer), "In The Court Of The Crimson King" and BOTH are from their first album from `69!! Radio SERIOUSLY neds to catch up!! If oinly I got get a show!!
@maalbe987 Sorrfy to down your fave. I never liked Rush whewn they first started, then I got into them a bit around "2112" and liked the next few albums (and, again, if it hadn't been for progressive radio taking the chance on playing them, you might never have heard of them), then, after, maybe, "Moving Pictures" or "Hemispheres", they just became very predictible. I haven't heard anything they've done since then, except for a few tracks from that "psych" album they did a few years ago.
@RedVynil Yeah, I heard in their documentary that their 80s stuff was really polarizing. Personally I like it but hey, to each his own. You should really give Snakes & Arrows a listen if you haven't already. Definitely one of their heaviest albums to date.
@maalbe987 Not sure what mean by polarizing, but, I liked them until the late `80's. I don't know that I've ever heard of "Snakes & Arrows".
Maybe this is more of a drummer's joke (me being one), but, Q: How many drummers does it take to change a light bulb? A: 6. One does the work and the other 5 sit around and discuss how Neil Peart could've done it better.
@RedVynil LOL. I'm gonna have to remember to use that sometime. Snakes and Arrows came out in 2007 and is currently their most recent album, even though there's supposed to be a new one this year. Also, I recommend you at least listen to Roll the Bones, which came out in the early 90s, specifically the title track. It features a short rap verse but trust me, it works a lot better than you'd think it would.
One thing I'm really cheesed off about with radio is that a band like Rush or KC will have LOTS of records out, but radio will only ever focus on ONE song!! "Tom Sawyer" was good when it first came out, but now, I don't care if I EVER hear it again!! Mountain had at least 6 albums out & only ONE song of theirs EVER got played!! Flip that album over & play the song in the same slot (track 3) and you'll get an even better song than, Mississippi Queen.
@RedVynil I respect your opinion, even though I'm a bit annoyed by the way you said it. Rush is probably my favorite band of all time, but I'm not even gonna try to deny that King Crimson's an amazing band too.
@TheFearlessFreep LOL!!!! Fearless Freep!!!! I just saw that cartoon last week for the first time in at least 20 to 30 years!! "I paid my 4 bits to see someone dive and I'm-a gonna SEE someone dive!! Get a move on it, rabbit!!"
@Lightmane321 I realize , thier portfolio is amazing, Fripp is the man , followed up by Belew, in fact I like all the members each had something great to offer , loved greg lakes vocals in the early king ,
The same century radio get's off it's lazy, fat, worthless, heavily controlled ass and starts playing something besides "Free Bird" and "Gimmie Threee Steps"!! The same century most of the populace of this planet becomes intelligent and learn to think for themselves!!
@Lightmane321 Yes, they just released their newest album, last summer. "A Scarcity Of Miracles". It's a completely different direction than what you're used to, but still very much King Crimson. Except for Fripp and Levin, it's all new people...unless you count Mel Collins, who was in the band in the early `70's. There's also a band of ex-KC members trouring around called, 21st Century Schizoid Band. They play mostly very early KC stuff.
@RedVynil Oh yeah. I watched it on youtube. I'd hardly call them King Crimson. Surprised they're calling it King Crimson. I like it, but it's completely different from what King Crimson is, which is prog rock, or art rock, as I like to refer to them as, but Scarcity of Miracles is very cool stuff, no doubt.
Check out the King Crimson jazz ensemble on here. They're amazing.
I forget the title of the album, but it's awesome.

also, rush are more close to hard rock whilst King Crimson are PURE PROGRESSIVE ROCK.
