I just love how Allan rarely looks at the neck while the rest of us rarely look away. He is so dialed in with feel, it's just amazing. I saw him in Houston tx. w/ Jeff and Chad in 83' playin the Road Games set. Been hooked ever since. Also on the card that night was Steve Morse Band. What a night two great legends...Thanks for the post,Karl...
I read an interview with Steve Vai where he said that he was worried that eventually he was gonna hit the wall physically due to age, and lose his chops.
the harmonic structures of his soloing is the best I ever heard in my life. Just play his music through a time scaler where it slows down the music but not the pitch. you will hear all kinds of stuff you missed because the original speed was so fast
yep, "the things you see"...and at around 1.41 they go into the "material real" vamp. Both songs has been on his playlist for ? some 25 years? wow. go Allan go
fuck he's really enjoying this gig, I wish I could have been there

If you like holdsworth,
I reccomend checking out a band called COPROFAGO.
Its like holdworth and meshuggah incarnate.
INSANE jazzy ass technical progressive metal.

Also might be worth checking out Exivious. Just as insane, with really nice improvised soloing.

yeah man, I really do hope they spend time on this one. focus and traced in air were masterpieces, I'd hate for them to rush the next one.

Saw the same lineup in 82 @ The Golden Bear in Huntington Beach.
That day changed my life.

He should listen to Allan and stop worrying.

Above all, Vai has less musical and technical capabalities than him and so...no worries!

would wear his shirt and converse if only I could play a quarter of what AH plays with one hand. He is the best.
