VERY encouraging! I pump exclusively because breastfeeding hurts WAYYY too much (I cryevery single time). Nurses told me that he latches perfectly, but in the last month, I've gotten clogged ducts 5 times on each side, 2 nipple blisters (with milk inside), engorgement and extreme nipple sensitivity (in the shower, when I put a bra on...). I'm literally afraid of my breasts BUT i still want to keep trying. at 2 months old, he STILL searches for a nipple when on my chest...makes me nervous! :(
@alyssaceevideos You could try taking the supplement lecithin to prevent clogged ducts, it's a natural emulsifier and women that are prone to plugged ducts can see a reduction. It's pretty easy to find at natural food stores. Sounds like things are difficult right now for you, I hope they improve soon and you are on your way to breastfeeding bliss.
@willowtreephoto thank you so much. I went to a lactation consultant and I'm finally breastfeeding at 2 months old! I'm surprised he remembers how to do it! It still hurts, but a lot less. I just need the courage to stick with it until it's less sore. I'm looking forward to that day!
One thing!!! Just because it hurts, that doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with your baby's latch. I had relatively flat nipples, and having them sucked into my baby's mouth hurt excruciatingly for the first six weeks until they toughened up. Also, a lot of women have very sensitive nipples these days because of bras. ;)
Thank you for the video! I have shared your videos with many family and friends. This particular video is so encouraging and have saved it on my favorites. I will definately use this video when I start breastfeeding my first child who is due in May. I can't tell you how many times I've watched Ignorance Meets Knowlege. Over and over again.....it encourages me. Thank you!!!
Great video, I breastfed my first (she's 16 months now) and am 7 months pregnant with my second and am going to breastfeed her too. Yes it was tough at first, cracked, bleeding nipple, engorged breasts, mastitus but I kept up not even thinking formula was an option, I absolutley LOVED breastfeeding. I have a question for you Tori, did you breastfeed Edward while you were pregnant or are you still breastfeeding him?? I found my supply dropped dramatically at around 18 weeks.
@TheGraceDiaries edward weaned at 3 1/2 when i was in my 2nd trimester. yes it does drop dramatically around the 18th week. you will most likely loose your supply if you have an older nursling that only goes to the breast once or twice a day for a few moments. if you have a more avid nurser you will probably see a dip but not loose it. ;) it's all about supply and demand. congrats on your upcoming baby and breastfeeding success!
Then I told him Wait (as he was half in his pants) saying "are you sure?" you wanted this remember" this means EVERYthing to you to nurse this one"
I said "ok don't go" I will keep at it, I called my midwife and she helped me get rid of the mastitis, and Since then aside from being prone to plugged ducts (I have over supply and OALD)
We are 18 months (almost 19 months) strong nursing and I am so proud that I did it and so happy with our beautiful breastfeeding relationship. It was so worth it!
@jfmom WOW! what a triumph. breastfeeding and mothering are such accomplishments. have you tried taking lecithin to reduce your plugged ducts? thanks for sharing.
yea I always have the lecithin ready (I just ran out actually, but I am going to wait and see this time, my supply has really gone down recently, as he nurses a lot less, and plays a lot more)
I think this video is great, your Ignorance meets knowledge is, among my all time favorite breastfeeding vids
after not succeeding with my first two, I was determined to breastfeed my last, IT was a struggle from day one, the latch was like a baracuda..and he was a snacker so it was every 15 minutes, I finally after a lot of help got his latch issues worked out (no nipple sheilds ever yeay!) and BAM mastitis, I was up screaming in pain when he would latch, with a fever and chills and red swollen stripes on my boob, and I said "thats it go to walgreens and bring back formula and a bottle" (continued)
Congratulations and what a great video. I wish I'd had this when I first started BF'ing my son. We made it through, thankfully, but your idea for posting something like this for new mothers is great - just what they need in that totally emotional state they get in - ENCOURAGEMENT!
@baroncelli7 awesome that you made it through! thanks for your kind words. it is in my heart to help mothers, i will be a midwife someday when my littles aren't so little ;)
This video is great timing for me! I have a new baby born Jan 6, 2010. So far, breastfeeding has been awesome, i really enjoy it. However, i am now becoming engorged. Do you have any tips to share on this topic? Thanks!
@Octahoney - get enough milk out so that you are comfortable, either with your hands or a pump. watch for painful lumps or spots in your breast- if you find one treat for a clogged duct- google it...
did u really name your baby griswold?

Thanks for this :)
I am a nursing mom, with an 11 month old, but just wanted to let you know I appreciate what your doing.
I listened to the nurses on charting everything and it honestly was just a hastle.
After I got home, I took a more natural approach, and let my daughter let me know what she wanted.
We are still going strong now, and will for a while, hopefully child-led weaning.
I am from OK too, btw :)
