Your post misleads by comparing apples to oranges. The scientists don't say that the # of land falling hurricanes is increasing. There's a big element of randomness in whether a hurricane hits land or blows out to sea. The rise in sea surface temps due to global warming is indeed making hurricanes stronger--more energetic, longer lasting & more destructive. And the annual # of Category 4&5 storms has doubled since 1970. And that's the # of Cat 4&5 storms, not the total # of storms.
Re: previous post, it's misleading to say you are quoting the "Chicago Sun-Times". Your quote is from an opinion piece published in SunTimes "Other Voices" section. The article was written by James M. Taylor of the "Heartland Institute". Writer Glenn Fleishman memorably termed the Heartland Institute "a sock puppet of industry". ExxonSecrets says that Heartland received $561,500 from ExxonMobil between '98-'05. Your source has obvious financial interests in this issue.
