  • millworker is a hell of a song

  • dont like the version so much but its really nice to see a younger rock singer selecting such a good JT one to play on a concert. Eddie's feeling is great, his studio singing is incredible. but live he sounds as casual as most people who likes to sing. I like him and respect him so much, there's a Black live version among my favorite video materials ever, but there's no sense in calling him "the best" singer.

  • not only is he the best singer ever, he is well read, generous of heart and soul, a true humanitarian, and i feel blessed to be living in an era with Ed

  • I was never much of a Pearl Jam fan when they first hit, but over the years thanks to YouTube I'm really becoming an Eddie Vedder fan. His influences are varied and deep - from The Who to Split Enz to James Taylor. This is a lovely reading of this song - true to the original but all Eddie. Well done!

  • great cover!

I always thought that this was the best song that James Taylor played. It's beautiful, and I can't think of another song that illustrates the mundane existence of a lower-middle class worker.

  • As a former millworker I can say Eddie rocks.

  • It's a shame the audio and the arrangement are so weak. This is the type of song Eddie Vedder could flat out nail. He's outrageous on stuff that's not as hard as some of Pearl Jam's stuff (which I like).

  • EDDIE VEDDER THE BEST SINGER EVER :)

  • thanks for the post.. had this a long time ago via filesharing,;the mp3. the sound quality of yours is better even though they were the same performace, so great job. there too.. peace~

  • I love that little Eddy. He is just the best...was reading all the spewage that some folks love to chant. Feel sad and ashamed for you, in your ignorance, you not only miss the light that music is, but you attempt to poison others with your ugly soul. Washing myself off, after reading this contaminated mess, glad I am not in your gene pool, creep.

  • @ranchroper1974 DAMN! So because someone doesnt like the way this guy sings, they have "An ugly soul" and they are a "Creep"...SHEEESH!!

  • Sorry for the delay in replying, but I don't spend my time in front of a computer with my pants around my ankles, Some of us have better things to do with our time. I'm only sorry that I wasted mine responding. Won't happen again.

If you ever DO move from the front of your computer, you might remember to pull your pants up from around your ankles. Wouldn't want you to trip up. D ickhead.

  • I think it's a testament to the humanity, first of all of James Taylor for writing it and secondly for Bruce Springsteen and Eddie Vedder for covering it beautifully, passionately and giving voice to the millions on this planet who work in mind-numbing drudgery all their lives.

  • listen up muppets.james taylor did not write this song.all the experts leaving comments and they dont know jack s hit.thats what i am up against...and this clown is still s hite

  • Poor you... You're also up against the music publishers who credit James Taylor as the writer... Conspiracy....? Paranoia....? Or just persecution complex?

The song is from a musical that's based on a book written by Studs Terkel. So, James Taylor didn't write the book upon which the musical is based, but he DID write the song form the musical. clear enough for you? Fucking moron. And what's with the "s hite"? Can't type shite?

  • Eddie Vedder N.1

  • Eddie did this on his solo tour in Memphis June 2009. Really awesome song. Blew me away.

  • apostlecreed.....GO FUCK YOURSELF. Yes everyone knows that James is the only one who can sing this. But you seriously have no right to dis Eddie. And he did find his own songs.......about 10 albums filled with brilliant ones. You obviously are the Fuck up here cause you don't know your shit. Like i said, James is the only one who can sing his songs but Eddie was doing a tribute to him out of RESPECT.....That's huge when other artists idolize and play your songs. You Dick

  • that was an insult you dick not a tribute.he is that good i can only name one of his songs.he cant sing punk and get over it.you only like him for 1 of 2 reasons.1 he comes from where you do.2 you like him because your big brother does...idiot

  • Dud, i wonder how old you are? Somebody help me out here. you seriously have no idea about music. Oh and 1 Eddie and Pearl Jam are from Seattle you fuck. I'm from Kentucky and yeah so what if my brother listens to them? They have Award winning albums? evryone loves them. WHy the hell did you put he cant sing punk? He and Pearl Jam are GRUNGE they started GRUNGE with Alice. You need to get your shit straight brother cause you are clueless about the music scene. Once again, Pearl Jam is Grunge

  • Dude you listen to Creed! LOL

  • this idiot fuc ks this tune up.taylor is the only one that can do this song.go find your own songs edddie you useless prick

  • apostlecreep is a complete ignorant moron..........lmao

  • can we get a little slide show with this or what?

  • One of my favorite songs, my grandmother worked in a mill. Eddie is an amazing musician with an incredible range of expression, from PJ through to folk song, and I'm constantly amazed by his facility with any song he gets it in his mind to sing. Incredible.

  • hearing this for the first time this morning--been looking thru yt for millworker covers and this is truly beautiful--second only to James himself

  • really beautifull covered by Eddie Vedder...love it!!!

  • MillworkerWords and Music by James Taylor(c) 1979 Country Road Music. There....that internet.

  • Flag is singer-songwriter James Taylor's tenth album. Released in 1979, it included songs from Taylor's music score to Studs Terkel and Stephen Schwartz's Broadway musical, Working ("Millworker", "Brother Trucker"). Please, do yourself a favor and google "Millworker". JT comes up more than Bette Midler's breast do these days.....

  • This song was not written by JT, He covered it from a broadway musical that only lasted a few weeks. I think the credit should go to the true writer of this song. Mostly, cause it's awsome...

    BuBBa

  • The song was written by JT. The broadway musical you speak of just never started. Get yo facts straight before acting like you some JT Casey Casem.

  • The Musical actually has been very successfull and the monologue that comes right before this is very powerful, and I think everyone should get a chance to see the show its called "WORKING" by studs terkel

    composer is Stephen Schwartz

  • I saw Eddie perform this song on his solo tour in DC in August. I like it even better than JT's version. Incredible vocals with just the acoustic guitar. No annoying harmonica like Springsteen's.

  • This song is from the musical, Working, based on Studs Terkel's book. Stephen Schwartz was the main composer, and James Taylor added this song and a few others.

    Too much info?

  • agarrenme que me desmayoooo xd!!!!!

  • AMAZING......

  • I was there! Grand Rapids october '04. I had no idea what song this was at the time, but was awestruck by how beautiful and sad it was. Thanks so much for posting it!

  • omg loved it. My daddy used to sing this to me when i was little to put me to sleep :) But eddie could put me to sleep anytime he wants lol.

  • this is great Eddie Vedder aucoustic performance ever

  • That's why they're saying "versions"...Springsteen covered this too...moron.

Nevertheless, this VERSION is incredible. Not that I'm surprised. Vedder's the man.

  • James Taylor you fucking morons.. He wrote this song...

  • Springsteen's cover is easily the best.

  • This is a James Taylor cover dipshits...

  • Really? Thanks asshat.

  • Sorry, but this is nowhere near as Springsteen's version.

    It's simply an inspired performance.

  • Simply beautiful.

  • BEAUTIFUL

  • One of the best eddie cover songs ever!

  • Great artist,great voice

  • What a wonderful version. Every bit as good as Bruce's, even though the quality obviously isn't as good.

  • Grand Rapids Vote for Change.....great show, great cover

  • make me cry
