Well, yes it would be. Perhaps a better suggestion might be to instead of cutting straight down do a diagonal cut into the pepper, like \|/ , where | is the core, and \ / are the cuts. This would reduce waste, but keep most of the speed/efficiency.

i dont think this would work everytime, cause peppers can grow in very oblong shapes.

Wasteful? It's about the same as cutting it any other way unless you use all of the seeds.
