I think that would only work sometimes. Like someone else said, peppers, even the red peppers can come in very different shapes. They were just lucky to get an almost perfectly square pepper.

i dont think this would work everytime, cause peppers can grow in very oblong shapes.

Wasteful? It's about the same as cutting it any other way unless you use all of the seeds.

Well, yes it would be. Perhaps a better suggestion might be to instead of cutting straight down do a diagonal cut into the pepper, like \|/ , where | is the core, and \ / are the cuts. This would reduce waste, but keep most of the speed/efficiency.
