I guess this is hint to add an external antenna...coaxial connection.  Just remember what you use as an antenna must be resonant in the 462 mHz range

True but you will git a better range. I have 9 GMRS 22 ch radios, iI use a 12 gauge wire about 1.8 F.T long and put that BAD Boy on the radio and Boy i git a lot better signal and transmit Farther. i put that home made antenna next to the one i took out of the radio and its small Vs the one i made . to make it work better and make it look nicer spiroll it up in the middel about 6-7 times. i uset to git 4-5 blocks in Town, over in S.T Paul MN now i git about 1.2 milles so i think its no bigdeal

True but you will git better range i have 9 GMRS radios, i use a 12 gauge wire about 1.8 F.T long, And remove the small one .lol and i git alot better range! i spiroll it around a pen about 5 inches above the radio it makes it look better to ^_^. try it i been doing it in S.T Paul MN i git only 4 blocks with a RAguler "EMR 1000 motorola " radio 1.5 watt . So i moded it and git up to 1.3 milles on it now i am happy but i say buy a "middland Base camp " radio about 60$ its a 5.0 watt radio}:)

I once did that with a motorola radio but I didn't have to open it up like that.

What I did was that I bended the plastic antenna hard enouf that it came off.

With a good wire cutter I cut the metal coil off.

I agree with you. Why did the external antennas to sell. No mill produces antennas for this frequency specific.
