This was one of the most enjoyable videos I have seen on YT. I don't even like to call it merely a "video" since it seemed so much more personal than that. Thanks for posting this. I felt like I was a family member sitting across the kitchen table listening to my dad.
It's just like Paul Fussell (vet of the Bulge) says: In modern warfare you can be smart, prepared, cool-headed or not... and survival still depends more on luck than anything else.
This man and others like him are the true americans who did what they had to do with no self pitty, came home and went on with their lives, raised familys, retired and are heros that walk beside us . THANK YOU MR SHAW! and God bless you..
Great stuff, but I wish he had been interviewed by someone who knew what he was doing. The woman (wife, loved one, whatever) was well-meaning but her constant giggling and interjections detract from his account....
You just can't beat a first-person account, and this footage is fantastic!! Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful post with us. What a story! A canyon!!! And the amazing thing is, this is just one of hundreds of thousands... At least his is preserved. Thanks again for making it available. It is so important that following generations have some sense of the "Greatest Generation's" accomplishments, and what they were up against, sacrificed, and overcame! Thank you, and WELL DONE.
is there a part two ?

God bless you Major Shaw, and all those of the greatest generation who stood on that wall, and faced the tyrants of the world, and said "NOT TODAY!!"

My dad, Gene Jelcick, flew with Dan Shaw and was on the mission with him when he went down.
