Noticed in the beginning of the clip, the background of the sky has blue with a black area on the left. That practically gives away what is going to happen.
Yes, they called them "transistor radios" back then. Radios before around the mid 60's had tubes in them (instead of integrated circuit boards) and took up quite a bit of space. The word "transistor" was eventually dropped from the name after the technology wasn't new anymore (sometime in the late 70's)
They lived together like adults but yet they acted like five year olds.

There were quite a handful of Ernie and Bert clips regarding planning. And this is one of the earliest.

I see Bert & Ernie are both wearing cool sunglasses.

Ernie even had his umbrella for just in case it rained, as it did.
finnishminnow 3 years ago
It's a good thing Bert & Ernie brought everything they had to bring as they were planning their trip ahead.

I take it that since Ernie and Bert live in NYC, they are at the beach on Long Island?
DaveJ721 5 years ago
The funny part is that I saw this one on "Shalom Sesame Street" in Hebrew school. So while Bert talked in English-Ernie spoke Hebrew!

Transistor Radio?
HarryPlayer 5 years ago
That was way before boomboxes, iPods, et al., but Ernie played his cards right. Better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it!
TFAtv 5 years ago
Yeah Ernie should've just said "Yeah well, I brought my iPod so I can listen to MY yucchy music."
