@giftedkidrules Socialism can go wrong by one ambitious leader or group, and Capitalism as a form of government is controlled by groups of wealthy. The men and women with lots of money could easily control television, radio, and other forms of information distribution.
One could easily endorse news station and only broadcast propaganda supporting ideas you approve of. "I have money, do this" in capitalism works as well as "I'm your leader, do this" in socialism.
@giftedkidrules It's becoming less possible. Back in 1968 a student could work 7 hours a week at minimum wage to pay their annual tuition. Now college is more a private investment like buying a house.
I agree with you on the socialism seeming like the easy way out to the people that make bad decisions, but there are situations where bad things can happen to you. Capitalism says hope you have insurance when things go downhill. Charity goes against the competitive nature of capitalism.
@giftedkidrules It's hard to get a job if you're homeless and have no documented skills. Hard to go to school without money, Hard to get money without a job,
@giftedkidrules If your family is rich, it's a lot easier for you to stay rich. Parents paying for school, having a strong family business, inheritance and other gifts help.
Personally dont like capitalism or socialism. The difference in the standard of living between wealth and extreme wealth isn't so much. The difference between homeless and substandard life is huge, and little income makes a big change.
Historically, capitalism and socialism are both abused by the greedy and ambitious.
@giftedkidrules I mean if you were a very wealthy person, if your job requires little skill or experience when it's time to retire, would you hire the person best for the job, or someone you would like to be in a good place?
Point being skill, hard work, and experience don't exactly have a linear relationship with wealth when dealing with the very successful.
Going to college or a vocational school help you get a better paying job, but there's a sense of royalty with wealthy families.
@giftedkidrules So the owner of a bank is more skilled than a surgeon? or the doctor just didn't go to school as long as he/she?
The family you're born into also has a big effect on what skills you learn. Many people have poor families and still turn out successful, hard work and dedication etc. The opposite is also true. I don't think the people squatting on the 13 trillion dollars that would create 9 million jobs would just hire anybody with the knowledge and experience to replace them.
@giftedkidrules Okay, so the man that works three jobs or his wife raising three kids dont work as hard as the CEO of a company, justifying how much money they make.
And what about the people who work hard but due to their surroundings and in some cases the very nature of the system they live under are never given the chance to succeed? What of those who are blessed with an innate capacity towards this or that field (science, for example) but due to the circumstances of their birth/upbringing will never have a realistic opportunity to accrue the necessary funds for a higher education, and have next to no positive peer examples to go by?
Apparently I know more about what I'm talking about than I thought I did, judging from the comment you just dropped
That is exactly the social darwinism I spoke about, the underlying assumption that anyone who hasn't made it has only himself to blame. It's a cruel mentality that I would understand from someone who outright admitted that he was an evil bastard, but it's the fact that so many christians adhere to this mentality that interests me. Don't they see the hypocrisy?
Still doesn't touch upon the fact that the modern incarnation of the american dream stinks of social darwinism, spits on the poor, and tends to rest on the very nasty assumption that anyone in a bad situation did not work hard enough and as such deserves to suffer for it. If I am to believe your story, you may be an exception, but the point still stands that as a nation the USA harbors that sentiment to a startling degree despite its citizens labeling themselves as christian.
Sketch touches upon a thing I've been wondering about for a long time.
How is it that America, a majority christian nation, is so absolutely gung-ho for capitalism and hate socialism, communism, and the act of sharing with such a massive passion?
Jesus was (supposedly) giving, said the poor/weak/lazy would inherit the earth, trashed the rich on a regular basis, and generally acted like the very same lilly-livered, sharing, hippy-esque socialist that so many right-wing christians spit on...
@hopelesslyderanged people move from communist countries to the USA because the USA gives them preference for visas and immigration procedures, to the extent of allowing all Cubans free entry. I'm Canadian, grew up within eyesight of America and i don't get that.
@hopelesslyderanged why is it that people are greedy? you understand that all concepts of "people are..." are simply social constructs that arise out of the real life situation people find themselves in. find yourself in a capitalist society, you will forsake your religious teachings and even your family for a buck. find yourself in a communist society, you might spend your spare time picking up garbage off the street because it helps everyone. just a thought
To all those people who drop this argument "socialism sounds nice, but only works on paper" - well, capitalism also only works on paper, and it doesn't even sound nice.
But if Trevor willingly threw his food out of the bus for pure enjoyment, that doesn't mean he deserves to get someone else's food. He lost HIS food, so its HIS responsibility, in socialism, you don't get the option to help someone, you just automatically have to give up what you earned to someone who threw it away.
lol, this is not much of a skit, more like raw advertising for socialism. I don't care I'm socialist! "socialism: trow half the food out the window then share what's left". Who cares if it works as good as Capitalism, lol, as long as it's not a pretext to see homeless people and buy a hummer the same day, and pretend it's fair.
I watched this video and once they started talking about socialism I was like "oh shit that means theres gonna be a petty argument under this video"....low and behold lol just watched the video and enjoy it damn
"The only reason capitalism works is because it plays on man's biggest flaw."
The harsh reality of human nature. We will never ascend beyond crime, world hunger, war, and poverty because the monarch of self interest is the puppet master of our race. Or perhaps, just our time
I love how whenever someone presents a valid point against socialism, they get voted down. The left wing boasts open-mindedness, but bashes anyone who doesn't agree with their political views. Just... come on. Listen to both sides of the argument, you know?
@MaudDeLarge Thanks for hearing me. I'm not really a conservative either, nor am I a liberal. I really don't believe if in government much anymore since it's all so corrupt these days.
WOW....why cant you people stop with the stupid political debates, and just shut the hell up and enjoy the damn video without having SOMETHING to complain about? FUCK.....
@rooienjohn I'd have to say that in a few decades, the socialist movement will be seen as the final mistake into the downfall of America's economy.
All economic systems would be GREAT in an ideal situation, including socialism. But ideals never happen, and people always take advantage of the system. But capitalism is the only system that doesn't TOTALLY crash and burn even when flaws are introduced, where as socialism would because not everyone contributes to the "economic rowboat." Just saying!
Socialism doesn't work because the profit motive is the harsh reality of mankind. As long as the benefit of the individual overbears the benefit of the whole and materialism remains the doctrine of our collective psyche, there will always be crime, poverty, war, and hunger. Self interest is the puppet master of our time. Capitalism is the culmination of our flawed existence.
@Omthiest The thing behind the socialist ideal is that they believe that people are born good and are turned selfish by a capitalist society. I believe people are born selfish, and capitalism can't be blamed for that.
Why is everyone so into socialism? Well, we're headed that way. You lazy bastards just want other people to pay your bills so you can blame your circumstances that really never prevented you from anything. Socialism will prevent you from success. It's not that everyone shares their benefits. It's more like everyone shares their suffering, so we'll see how much you like that. Sorry, I know that sounds opinionated, but for real, it's a dismal concept.
@GreenGearMood You know what increases suffering? Screwing the economy even further by over spending during deficit budgets on social programs. Get your head out of your ass, quit thinking strictly in terms of emotional appeals, and learn some economics. Seriously.
@fishbowl4202 Because they don't understand government economics, and they know that the closer to communism you get, apparently the worse life is. Which is only true due to the fact that not everyone has a hive-mind. I feel as if it only works on paper.
@TheEnjoiPandolin many people say it only works on paper, but fail to look at the massive reductions in poverty in countries like Venezuela, and the world-class education systems in socialist Scandinavia
FDR stayed in office for four terms cause we were in the middle of WW2 jackass. and its never a good idea to change up your leadership in the middle of a war as large and involved as that was. So one. Dont bash FDR for leading the country through a difficult time and TWO people in general are greedy, but the principles of socialism is just that. to be not greedy and help out your fellow man. Only in its most unflawed state would it be a truely good thing tho. Same with communism. but no one can
