  • They were giving away the free 6-packs because they weren't selling lol. It was New Coke and they were sitting there gathering dust, so they wanted to get rid of them someway!

  • Damn... was Gary Gerould EVER young? I guess watching the Kings play all the time ages you terribly.

  • Looks more like $5 worth of yellow aluminum foil than $50000 worth of gold coins.

  • I totally remember this, you were a total LOOSER if you watched channel 40's news. The cool news was KOVR 13 (ABC) with Alan Frieo and Susan Blake.

  • That guy in that Raley's commercial looked like he was still living in the 70's :D

  • Gary Gerould is the second guy. Voice of Sacramento Kings radio play by play.

  • lol august 12 is my bday

  • "New Coke" was just a scam to avert attention away from the fact that they swapped cane sugar for corn syrup in "Coca Cola Classic". They intentionally made it taste awful and sickly sweet so there would definitely be public outcry, then said "okay okay, we're sorry, here's the "Classic Coke" you love". That's why it's called "Original FOrmula" - it is the original Coke Classic formula! Corn syrup is a lot cheaper and you can ingest mass quantities without getting sick (unlike cane sugar).

  • I don't know about the getting sick part, but I definitely agree. I hated the Coca Cola Classic from the get-go. I just does not taste the same. The last time I had real coke was in Mexico over twenty years ago. I heard they still make it with cane sugar in Mexico, but our government is pressuring their government to allow them to go using cheapo high fructose corn syrup.

  • @Angryjazz Actually, Pepsi was starting to beat Coca-Cola in sales. Coke did taste tests (which is a flawed method), which showed that more people preferred this "New Coke" formula to the original. That's why the inane disaster known as New Coke happened.

  • @MattTheSaiyan

In the first place, why is a taste a flawed method? On top of this, if people preferred the New Coke over the original formula, why was it a disaster?

  • @Smartboy8877 Taste tests are a flawed method because it is less than half a cup of each drink being tasted. More or less, it is just a sip. I think everyone has had something they liked on first bite or drink but got sick of over a week or so. Also, those who liked regular Coca-Cola weren't gonna buy a product that tasted more like Pepsi, those who drank Pepsi weren't gonna buy a drink that was a mere imitation of it. There are other reasons as well.

  • @MattTheSaiyan

Thank you very much for that facinating information! You are one of many interesting people who I have met right here on You Tube!

  • @MattTheSaiyan They were lucky they did...Pepsico was on the verge of introducing an original Coke taste-alike called "Savannah Classic Cola", but the head of Pepsi was delaying until they got the taste exactly right. Who knows what would have happened if that product hit the market before they threw in the towel on New Coke.

  • eyeh8cbs, do you have any old clips for Safeway Supermarkets form the early 90's?

I use to live in Sacto, and we moved to So Cal 1n 1992. She is 17 now and when she was a baby for some reason she was mesmerized by the Safeway Commercial Their slogan was "Safeway the best of everything"!!

    Thanks for the memories!

  • Yay classic is Back! I didn't like New Coke. Tasted flat.

  • $50,000 in gold coins now only means about 50 big double eagles!

  • I have a Kodak Disc!

  • well go get your six pack!

  • @donottakethisname

My original intent was to ask you if you knew if they still make Kodak Discs. But then I read the description given by the uploader and got my answer! Being that they do not make them anymore, are you still able to get film for yours.

  • Gary Gerould did Raley's commercials for years.

  • That is Gary Gerould, the radio voice of the Sacramento Kings!

  • Comment removed

  • Gary Gerould! also did ESPN coverage of Champ Cars back in 1999

  • And not only that, Gary Gerould also owns his own production company and also does NHRA trackside stand up's for ESPN2.
