  • Clearly, he hangs to the left....

  • Incredible voice!!!......and not funny to whoever called him brundle fly

  • what the fuck is portal 2 :S i came here off the film GOTTI 1996

  • I don't think we actually what a great voice he had back in those days. He still does.

  • What a voice!!

  • Do you think Jay would rather have "yes men" or those who told him what's what near him. Diverse opinions have veracity about them while mendacity loves a singularity. 'll tell it like I see (or hear) it.

  • Hey we all are fans of Jay and love his voice and his look and his contribution to music. However, some are just a tad bit defensive about him and can't seem to just have a discussion about him without it all being 100% positive. Aficionados can be of all sorts and this is the proper forum to discuss inadequencies and shortcomings. Which is only a technicality here because of unknown circumstances at the studio. I'm sure he could sing that song in his sleep anytime, anywhere. So lay off grandma!

  • what can I say Iam hooked on this song Oh my what a voice after all these years WOW jay you are awesome !

  • I play his songs every day over and over , my grandaughters just shake there heads lol I love his music . He is very good he has a great gift .

  • Ok , I will I was trying to watch every video I could find of him , I ran across one where they were talking about his throat and him still reaching those high notes , so I was concerned and tried to find out what I could . I have been praying for Jay ahile now . Hes like family .

  • A number of years ago I bought my parents tickets to see him at Westbury...they said he was phenomenal! They thoroughly enjoyed the show and his performance.

I grew up listening to my mom's 45s and Jay Black and the American albums. What an incredible voice! My favorite is Some Enchanted Evening!

  • can someone comment on Jay's recent health ? I want to start a prayer chain for him He needs us now ! Hes intertained us for years lets do this folks He's still # 1 for us fan's .

  • @Toughgranma I check this every few days. I've heard nothing of his health being bad. If you hear, or anyone else, please post it on here and also let me know how I can join the prayer chain.I think of him so much he seems almost like a friend.

  • didddo oh my On the tight pants and th eopen shirt wow ! He still has that attitude he had when he sang it back then , Jay Black you are timeless and your still a hunk !

  • @Toughgranma Yeah. I wanted to get in that shirt so bad!

  • What a voice!

  • gosh I wish I could meet Him , I would love to hear him sing Cara Mia just once before I die . I listen to that song all day long its great .

  • Jay has some pipes that's for sure... he lost it all to a gambling problem including using the name, :"Jay and the American's", sad...

  • @zbestwun2001 He might have lost material things. He did NOT lose the voice. If he DOES lose his voice, it'll be to sickness, and temporarily. If you're a fan, pray for him and be positive.

  • wow! that voice is a gift to us all

  • Nice pants!!!

  • @sharonkayb ..ditto..looks alittle " confining ".....

I love Jay though..then and now...he's an old man now and I love him just as much as back in the day..

  • Love his voice and have since I was a child. He has a gift and his own style. Love the tight pants and unbuttoned shirt/jacket!

  • No one can sing "CARA MIA" like JAY BLACK!!!

  • @pobrepaco Ditto!!!

  • All in all, I still like to visit this vid and see one of the golden voices from my childhood whether or not he's actually creating something new or revisiting an earlier soundtrack. He's the best out of the sixties and is still a man to contend with. A living legend to remind us what real singing talent is. The present "artists" should listen up and take notes (no pun intended) (they couldn't match his voice anyway) and continue his efforts to expand the musical frontier he helped pioneer.

  • @mikegoons That really Is Jay Black voice singing , even though hes lip syn it ? right is that what you said ?

  • @mikegoons ...yeah, he IS lip-syncing, but also the sound and video are out of sync. It's not Jay doing it badly. Whoever uploaded it originally messed it up somewhow. Jay certainly can lip-sync this song with no trouble, considering the tons of times he had already done that by the time time this show was filmed.....

  • Yes i found the video on the net & it was outta Sync

  • @BrushCountryJamboree Yes it was Brush.. That song was made before he lip synced it in this video..Course I am showing my age, but who cares.. :)

  • @Parkangel08 thanks your very kind , I love listening toJay over and over .

  • @DFbighair Dawn, why are our comments being removed? We haven't said anything bad. If they leave Skids remarks on, why remove ours?

  • @salliannable What do you mean? How can you tell comments are being removed?

  • @salliannable Ohhh. now I see what you mean.I have no idea why some comments are being removed...or who is doing it. I've said nothing that would be considered " spam "...I really don't know..

  • I am so happy to have had the privilege of seeing him twice at Westbury - he not only has a gifted singing voice - he is extremely handsome (love that unbuttoned shirt!) and I am so happy he is still performing. God bless you Jay.

  • I AGREE, what a voice! We LOVE seeing him at Westbury! GREAT SHOW!

  • Jay's voice is a gift. There are those who can sing nicely and there are those who are gifted, and Jay Black is in the second category. He's 73 now, and can still belt this song out. It's incredible.

  • I absolutely love this song!!!!!!!

  • he sounds just as good today

  • most definatly right up there with roy if not i think jays range was alot stronger

  • @loupro100 no one had the range of Orbison.

  • Alright, he looks like a pornstar. The theme is space. Ah, The big bang! Seems appropriate.

  • the unbuttoned shirt - lol

  • @jmorrowbel It's not to laugh, it is to pant! Whew! Mm-mmm-mmm. Too bad people have to get old.

  • Simply fabulous, a great man, a great voice !

  • @FOXFIRECOMD1 i always loved his voice, but i lost a bit of respect when he attended the trial of John Gotti in 1990 cuz he liked the mobster - i mean, come on!!!!

  • @blueinfinite I just came back from the Howard Beach area today coincidently, but I heard that John took a likeing to him and his music and Jay had a rough period for awhile; didn't know he attended the trial but then again everyone in the Howard Beach, Ozone Park area followed the goings on. Doesn't make him a bad person. Still you can't take that quality voice from the 60s away from him.

  • @FOXFIRECOMD1 point well taken - I am 1/2 italian, mom's side, and mobsters represent the worst of what otherwise is a pretty good and artistic and intellectual culture. i remember the Howard Beach act of violence in 1986 when three black guys were chased with bats, one dying while fleeing across the highway. i hope it has gotten better since then - love my Italian half, but not that part of it, you know, the "wise guys"

  • @FOXFIRECOMD1 I'm sure John DID take a liking to him--who wouldn't. But I read that they were friends when they were young, not just as adults.

  • If this was live it shows what a unbelievable voice he has

  • It's a tossup between this performance and Jay's 2010 rendition, at age 70+. My God, the pipes on this guy! It's funny that his 1965 Shindig version - at almost the height of the group's fame - had a ways to go. Like fine wine, he's only improve with age.

  • How old is Jay on this video. SEXY EYES. Lovin the fur on the chest Jay!

  • @hummingbird058 He was about 40 here...this was the late 70"s...he made a movie with Frank Sinatra about this time, called, Contract on Cherry Street....look it up..all 4 parts are on YouTube....he was quite good in it..Dawn

  • JAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • fab.. is he in the rock n roll hall of fame yet? he surely should be..ahead if some already there for sure...

  • what happened to the buttons on his shirt?

  • This powerful singing has caused a budgie to hide in his trousers

  • yeah people change..but he is still the best.

  • Thumbs up if you came cause of Portal 2

  • This is real talent, real music, pure entertainment.

P.S.-It's Vacation time July 5 - July 19 so we will be off-line

  • Jay, Roy Orbinson and BJ Thomas have the multi-octave ranges that could never be matched in their generation

  • I love Jay, but I swear, in this clip, he looks like the bad guy in "Dirty Hairy" that gets shot between the eyes at the end of the movie.

  • He looks like a guy from a retro space film. Never the less, this song is growing on me.

  • Every time I hear him sing his song all I can say is wow.

  • CARRRRRRAAAAAA MIIIIIAAAAAA!!!!!!!!

  • This song is a little bit before my time, but I remember loving it, even very young. Mr. Black it seems, can't seem to quite 'get it right' with fashion, although he had a heck of a voice. That outfit!!! Goodness gracious and HAW. Horrible 80's fashion. He looks a little bit like actor Tom Berenger. Same hairstyle, same clothes. Thank you for posting this.

  • Best voice of all time next to Roy Orbison! Love you Jay!

  • @Frieda1958 I agree....I was nine years old when this came out,,,,,,,Great tune, one of my all time favorites. Roy Orbison was another great one................

  • Sent you a recent video, can you post it here so people can compare. There is little or no difference.

    mike

  • I love this song....it reminds me of my dad, its his favorite!

  • I always thought it was Roy Orbison's song. Sorry Jay. It's definitely yours.

  • What eyes!

  • @MrScanland tell Jay his is the best! And thank you for still singing his beautiful songs the same way. I will love him till the end of time!

  • I just spoke to Jay this morning! The furniture delivery service I own is delivering a recliner to him. he is a class act - he was when I spoke to him twenty years ago too. The voice is still great!

  • Don't think he carries off the Tom jones look

You should hear vince hughes sing it!

  • No not the best, the best is Roy Orbison!

  • One of the best male vocalist ever. If not the best !

  • @pontiman68 , I think you got it right. It's virtually impossible to say who is the best, but I sure think Jay Black could compete with any pop singer. An old football coach used to talk about some of the great players and he would say, "so and so may not be in class by himself, but it sure doesn't take long to call roll in his class". I only wish I could anything as well as Jay sings.

  • this is really cack ... listen to Josef Locke he puts them all to shame

  • I like Gene Pitney but he didn't have Jay Black's vocal range. Pitney's version of Cara Mia is nowhere as powerful, smooth or evocative as the version covered by Jay Black, whose vocal range must be close to three octaves.

  • killer of a voice.....but who is this guy? David Hassellhoff???- pretending to be Jay Black?

  • Jay black and the americans was my first ever concert when I was 13, I am now 27 and I will always remember seeing them and how excited I was.

  • comofan100 they all have a tremble in there voice that sound like sheep bleeting.

  • While this is the version we are use to hearing and Jay is outstanding, if you want to hear another great version try Gene Pitney's version. Difference is, the high parts are extremely strong with Pitney. First time I heard it I was blown away.

  • @Tonithenightowl I happen to be a Gene Pitney fan. As a freaky coincidence I happened to order a 3 CD of Gene Pitney. At an awesome price, then a few weeks later he passed away. I have heard Gene's version of this same song, but my personal opinion, I still think Jay Black is best on this song. But I have listened to some of Gene Pitneys older songs where he sang and harmonized with George Jones. They sounded great. I know they cut a 33 album. Wish I had that.

  • @Stkrista1024 Many old albums have been made into cd so its possible you can find it. I just think Pitney was the best of the best. His Youtube site has Italian versions of his songs and him singing classic Italian songs too. Never heard anyone do I'm gonna be strong but Cindy Lauper and while good, Gene still holds the title in my books. Thanks for responding. Always glad to meet another Pitney fan.

  • even today he still has that "crooked" smile/mouth. Love you man!

  • Love this man....16, 60, what ever the age...love his looks today more than the 60"s.

  • I dont care how old he is.....he is the man!! fight them, Jay...don't give up..

  • There is just one Jay Black., and I love him . He has a macing voice.

  • There is just one Jay Black., and I love him . He has a macing voice.

  • Just doesn't get better than this.

  • One of the finest voices of all time

  • @bigjoetube Count me in! I was there, and I agree

  • Jay black is great!

  • WOW ROY AND JAT=Y MITE BE1 AND2

  • Jay has come a long way since his growing up day's on Ocean PKWY in Brooklyn, what a voice .

  • yah, great voice. sounds kind of like an opera singer?

  • DAMM look at jay in this video,i just saw him on a interview with white hair and liver spots, but who am i to say,its scary how time passed so fast.i love him then and now

  • Jay Black has one of the best singing voices this country has had. He ranks right up there with Roy Orbison.

  • @erik92mb Your right ,Roy has the edge but Jay is fantastic with Cara Mia

  • @erik92mb It reaches all the way to your soul!!

  • @erik92mb I agree. I saw him not that long ago and at 70 he still has that gorgious voice. Amazing!!!

  • @erik92mb yer right, the orbison comparison is appropriate.im nuts about roy,but this guy is stronger i think and equal tone.and range.maybe roy has more range[natural i mean not falsetto].this guys great...so is roy

  • @erik92mb

I second that emotion! I couldn't agree with you more !!!

    :-)

  • This was def the 70's...having lived that decade myself..lol....that was the only time "men" had the nerve to perm their hair.....his natural hair is straight...

    Still lovin him....such a vibratto

  • best singer ever in history

  • Awful Jacket, Magnificent Voice.......

  • That's what it looks like, but with the open jacket I'd say closer to the early 80's. The man is amazing then and now.

  • How old was Jay Black here? Was this video done in the late 70's or early 80's A recent performance of this song had Jay singing it just as beautifully as he did in the 60's
