Schlafly exposed ERA for the fraud that it was. ERA's real purpose was to turn over political issues important to liberals to the courts so that our elected representatives in federal and state government would be shut out of deciding those issues. The liberals wanted to use the courts to force unpopular laws and policies on the public because they had consistently failed to persuade our elected representatives to enact them. ERA was doomed to defeat once the truth about it was exposed.

The bad thing is that something as fundamental as human rights shouldn't be bogged down by gender considerations. It shouldn't be gender neutral, it needs to refrain from addressing gender in general. The Equal Protection Clause gives all American citizens their full constitutional rights, the ERA would have only complicated the law unnecessarily.

Phyllis is absolutely right. Imagine an ERA were passed: if a military draft were to then be introduced (for whatever reason), women as well as men would have to be drafted on the same terms as men for front-line combat service. I don't think many people would consider that a good thing.
Women are much better snipers and have a better eye for detail. I was in the Army, and I saw guys screw details up all the time! That's the biggest problem with the Army, the sophisticated arms used require a high level of attention to detail, and guys are too busy trying to prove how tough they are with 'gross' skills instead of using 'fine motor' skills. In my platoon, the girls outshot the guys in daylight and at night. Grow up.

While that certainly is a testable hypothesis, to the best of my knowledge, there is no conclusive evidence that this is in fact the case. If an ERA Amendment uses the word "sex" as a noun, the word sex would have to refer to people who are asexual, bisexual, homosexual, heterosexual, intersexual, pre-operative and post-operative transexuals, transgendered, transvestites, genderchosen, etc. Surely an anti-bigoted ERA proponent would not reference only male and female. Probably the most obvious way anyone would know the "sex" of a person in an ERA society would be by their simple public declaration.

Phyllis is absolutely right. Imagine an ERA were passed: if a military draft were to then be introduced (for whatever reason), women as well as men would have to be drafted on the same terms as men for front-line combat service. I don't think many people would consider that a good thing.

Women are much better snipers and have a better eye for detail. I was in the Army, and I saw guys screw details up all the time! That's the biggest problem with the Army, the sophisticated arms used require a high level of attention to detail, and guys are too busy trying to prove how tough they are with 'gross' skills instead of using 'fine motor' skills. In my platoon, the girls outshot the guys in daylight and at night. Grow up.

It was Phyllis. This book is from the 60's and she repeatedly talked about the "kingmakers" who are in charge of choosing who becomes President. While that certainly is a testable hypothesis, to the best of my knowledge, there is no conclusive evidence that this is in fact the case. So here but there is no evidence (other than anecdotal evidence) that she is right.

If an ERA Amendment uses the word "sex" as a noun, the word sex would have to refer to people who are asexual, bisexual, homosexual, heterosexual, intersexual, pre-operative and post-operative transexuals, transgendered, transvestites, genderchosen, etc. Surely an anti-bigoted ERA proponent would not reference only male and female. Probably the most obvious way anyone would know the "sex" of a person in an ERA society would be by their simple public declaration.
