heres the thing , you guys that find footage like this need to stop putting music sound tracks , let the original stuff alone .. even if there was no sound at all , i'd rather imagine what the engines sounded like, tires squealing for traction , etc .. stuffing music of any genre into these Vintage clips is a " CRIME "
This was back when race drivers were bigger than life. There was a way to get noticed if you drove on dirt. Now so many have bought their way and the poor, talented drivers stay on the short tracks.
I love how the Camaro Pace Car is straining to stay ahead of the idling Indy Car field. Was this one of the infamous Twin races? The music is great, it's so 60's! Well done
These cars are beautiful. It really shows the beauty of a car without aerodynamics devices. So, get rid of wings in all open-wheel series! We might get better racing as well.
I have probably been to The Milwaukee Mile hundreds of times. I started going there in 1956. So, I saw a lot of the roadsters on that track. Going thru the turn, the roadster would sometimes lift that left front tire off the track thru the whole turn. Sometime over 6 inches off the track. The roadster, the most beautiful race car ever built.
Hey Jazzbo1974, The last front-engine roadster to qualify at Indy was driven by Jim Hurtibise in 1970. However, he spun and hit the wall moderately on the 2nd Lap and finished 33rd. He brought out the roadster in 1971, but didn't make the show. Nice clip. that was also the last win for the late Art Pollard.
As a lover of old races, I must be sincere -- such a rare and worthful material deserved an informative narration about the race itself, not a sentimental song on it... however, thanks for the images!
Very interesting video... the driver of that green car was lucky that his vehicle did not completely submarine under that guardrail. What song comprises the background music?
ChampCar FTW!

Thanks to the mis management of the Milwaukee Mile my 32 race streak for Indy cars is broken in 2010. He didn't pay the bills.

Look at those full stands, the way the Wisconsin State Fairgrounds should be.

Makes me sad, look at the STANDS just JAMMED packed! These days theres none there, its a ghost town execpt when "stock' cars are racing.
Its like watching Road America footage, June Sprints was a big deal back inte 70's, now its like a joke :(

There's a sign on the outside retaining wall that prohibits smoking in the pit area...shouldn't it posted in the pit area?

It is. And if you are in the pits looking out, it is another reminder!

Hurtubise would try to bring out the roadster at Indy all the way to the last pre-CART year, 1978.

This is what my hotwheels and matchbox cars looked like when I was little. Great footage. Great song.

Art Pollard is the winner. Looks like Mario, who won the Indy 500 the week before, had been leading and had some type of trouble.
