My Pops bought me one of these like ten years ago when I was still living at the house. My set fell apart a couple of years before when we moved from Texas and he felt bad about it. I now have a nice acoustic set but late at night when the neighborhood is sleeping I still use it to bullshit.
The speakers on it just weren't great, like sometimes it wouldn't pick up the sound of hitting more than 1 pad at the same time. Little dodgy, still, you make it sound pretty good!
honestly im thinking of take my dd55c apart and hot wiring the roland pads to the stock triggers...see if that works...because the set up is very annoying to play and i dont have the patience to change the drum pads around
in defense of the dd55, it sounds 100 times better through the headphones or a nicer speaker system. there are also a lot of preset beats that you can practice your other instruments with. it's also the cheapest and easiest way to have 7 triggers and pads in one easy box. the hand percussion behaves nicely. drum kit? yea horrible. drum machine with 7 pads 2 pedals and midi? better. worth $100.
@donwilly People want something that isn't 800 dollars just for drums, excluding cymbals, and you can adjust volume and it's small to store. Of course it's not comparable though
I have this and use it for jamming when space or loudness are an issue. I bought mine used for $150 on craigslist.
What I find amazing: the variety of sounds.
What I find annoying: The response of the pads (they don't always sound off when struck around the edges) and the lack of volume. Tight formation of pads.
You can plug these into an amp or a good stereo via midi which solves the volume problem. If you just use the kits speakers, you hear the whack of the sticks with each sound.
can you hook up your own bass pedal to it? like lets say a rock band pedal? or would you say the pedal is reactive and sturdy enough to not even need to be replaced?
The RB pedal works with PEDAL 2 (the high hat) pedal but not with PEDAL 1 (the actual kick). I find the included pedals hard to work with, especially since I am a semi-pro drummer accustomed to normal pedals. But that's just me. I still like the -55 and use it for our church if we have a picnic.
Try turning the sensitivity of the pads up to "2" (should tell you how to do this in the manual which is probably accessible online through yamaha's website)
i got 1 of these(idk if its the same model) 4 christmas MANY MANY years ago. i found it in the closet 10 minutes ago and just happened 2 stumble upon some youtube videos. lol
i'll start playin it, and when i get good, i'l buy an actual set.
I have the dd-50 and it takes 6 C, so it's probably the same. Do you know what differences there are between teh 50 and the 55? Nice drumming by the way
there was a big lawsuit a while back over all the drum tab sites over copyright infringement and I guess everyone's worked out their problems because mxtabs seems to be back in business now.
maybe just try searching for drum tabs in your favorite search engine. you're bound to come up with more than a few results. let me know if you find anything.
I've been playing drum set for about 8 or 9 years now. This was recorded a few years ago. I now have an acoustic setup. Try placing your pedals up against something heavy (i.e. the box it came in) to keep them from sliding away from you. Thanks for watching!
I had mine for about two or three years and then my guitarist plugged one of his pedals in through my power source and fried it. It no longer works. The pedals wear out eventually as well. Overall, it is an excellent way to learn to play, but it is not made for the gigging musician. It will last a long time if you take care of it.
Thanks. The sound is bad just because it is hard to get good sound out of these little electronic drum machines. The speakers are not very high quality and my camera does not have a very good microphone.

Can you connect an amplifier, like a guitar amp to it so the drums sound louder? Also, can you play double bass on it?
RockerArtist4Life 1 year ago
this thing is not comparable with playing real drums. Buy a real drum kit and enjoy playing drums.
