As a schooled fashion designer I wonder how one can get into conceptual design. Don't for get people, art is to stimulate your thought process too, and it seemed to get every ones attention when she mentioned vibrator. It worked alright.

A vibrator it's an object just like a vase ou a pen are objects, and they all resulted of a project that ended up in industrial production. It has a function and performs it well. That's what design is about.

using gastric juices for energy does sound pretty amazing. but it also highlights a dark second-shift of industrialism to satisfy our energy harnessing needs. a sort of grotesque way of dehumanizing bodies for the benefit of the living. it seems like a bad path to follow. yet is an ideal all in its own, and i respect that idea for what is it. interesting exhibit however.

i guess we have designers because of mass consumption. I don't know how the field is divided (in the real world) but art/design is pretty much because of the mass consumption.

functionality is completely inbeded in to linguistic web. while art is always open to furthure interpretation. A designer can improve on the shoe. But that will still be "an improved shoe". While Van Gugh's painting of show seems an open ended to interprtaions. mmh...art and intellect is something to think about. (The bracketing of the objects.)
