How on earth do those people train these birds? What are their secrets? How do they get these birds to know what their names are? For instance, naturally they repeat the whole sound or sentence they hear, so how do you train them to answer to your question and not repeat your question like: You: "What is your name?". Bird: "My name is Pete." or Bird: "Pete.", and not: Bird repeating: "What is your name?" or: You: "Your name is Pete." Bird: "My name is Pete." and not Bird: "Your name is Pete."

I think you train them to repeat directly, though it's different with different birds.

I haven't any idea but I'd try saying (you) 'spaceshipes go -then the noise-' the bird going either 'spaceships go -noise-' or just the noise. I don't know. ^^,

I feel kinda bad for the trainer because it must be really nerve-racking. I have a bit of stage fright. I bet it's especially scary when the crowd doesn't react or when einstein says something that she wasn't supposed to

Einstein is an intelligent bird. She trained hard to learn that routine. I bet she drives everyone nuts on the days when she doesn't do shows. For those that think its wrong to train birds this way, these parrots are too naturally intelligent to be left to learn on their own or just casually trained. The zookeepers put a lot of time and effort into keeping the birds minds occupied. You wouldn't object to apes being trained to perform.

einstein's just responding with practised replies to verbal cues, not unlike other trained animals, and to me not something that warrants a TED talk. for a truly remarkle example of animal intelligence, check out Alex the Grey Parrot instead. that bird boggles my mind.

I work at a parrot refuge and the greys are the best parrot to work with. I call them the physicists of the parrot world because they break everything down to its basic elements.Put a box or a watermelon in with them and within hours it is just a bunch of tiny pieces. They are very tame and very curious more than other parrots. Grey All the Way!

I'm impressed by the volume of words and the speed that both the speaker and parrot were able to perform. It was smooth for the most part and the bird didn't even seem to think about any of it. Very well done.

This video is lame. She taught the bird on keywords (space ship, dusty, etc) and she just changes the story line. In 2005 she was on Animal Planet (vid is on metacafe, or you can google) and she does all the same shit, again just different verbage in between the key words.
