  • id love to have both. but the the caterham does come off as nerdy.

  • supercharge the Caterham and we'll see then :)

  • You can tell the Atom driver is working less at going fast.

  • I like the Caterham more, just the charm I suppose. You'd look more like a gentleman weekend warrior rather than a boy in a toy

  • It's so tough to compare these two head-to-head at the same time though because driver skill is such an important factor in lap times on a racetrack...

  • if somebody makes a caterham body with a mid mounted k20a i will probably cream my pants

  • Not sure how aerodynamic that windshield on caterham is....

  • what track is it please? it´s perfect. wish we had the same in Czech Rep

  • @TheCzechmichal Cadwell, probably my favourite track in the UK. Known as the mini Nordschleife :)

  • @Keeehar

Guy´s you don´t know how jealous i am. For the automobile culture you got in UK, those tracks and circuits, and last but not least Wales roads and Isle of man. Awesome.

  • and the R400 has a full size windscreen, that costs some performance. Great car...

  • I'd have either of these, the Atom looks amazing but the Caterham is more fun as you can slide it much easier and with the Bac Mono just going into production it is clear the British make the best ground effect cars in the world.

  • Just image in they did that with the newest V8 Atom... man...

  • I thought this was supposed to be a race the Caterham r400 couldnt even keep up with the ariel atom this is laughable.

  • Cadwell park awesome circuit had many a track day there on my old GSXR600K1 and crashed it at the hairpin to boot :D

Had a track day in an Atom a few months back OMFG! The speed & acceleration will make your bones bend. Not very practical at Asda for a big shop but as boys toys go it's the daddy.

  • REMOVE THE SCREEN!

  • id have the caterham....just because it has a bit more protection against the elements......apart from that there dead even.

  • So when we all get to Heaven, this is what we'll get to do every day....!

  • just been quoted from an insurance company who's slogan is "quote me happy" £4286.03 for a caterham 1.4 classic. i am not as happy as the cunt on the advert

  • Yeah Cadwell. Stunning circuit for viewing . has so many pics of cars with all 4 wheels of the ground over the mountain.

  • Caterham had a bunch of oversteer, after having seen both designs i'd definatly chose the Ariel..(Not from the lap time but from suspension/wheelbase etc)Of course the Ariels more expensive..lol you can just look at them and see that, the caterham looks like it belongs in 1960-70s Britain and the Ariel looks like it belongs at Area51.

  • The Caterham should have won, there was some minor oversteer. If his swaybar was one hole looser he would have been able to get around the corners a lot better. Caterhams are awesome!

  • Both of those guys could stand to smooth it out some, they'd be a bit faster.

  • cadwell park?

  • Atom 500 all the way

  • As far as I can hear, this isn't even the supercharged version of the Atom...even though I doubt you would see much of a difference in the lap or distance between it and the caterham, I'd still be curious to see the effect of the extra HP

  • @kiwi4life4fun In which case you'd want to watch an R500 vs a supercharged Atom (would be quite a video!)

  • Britain builds the best track cars

  • caterham driver is really pushing it hard to stay up w/ the atom, great driving

  • the atoms a lot noisier, it also looks cooler to so id go with the Atom, its also got like the best acceleration of all sports cars (dont know for sure but it thrashed all the other supercars on top gear so yeah..) so definetly the Atom

  • @TheTrantster

an Atom is certainly very fine but just watch a Caparo T1 on the Nürburgring Nordschleife, I think it's the best one !

  • @LEGOFFMARTINEAU Too expensive, the caterham can be built by anyone for far less, plus I'vr heard of people putting custom aluminum longer A arms to make it wider, and a built LS1 or 600hp lan evo motor and custom aero parts. Then you have something special.

  • @LEGOFFMARTINEAU But check out a Red Bull F1 car driven by Vettel, thats even more amazing !! & also about as many times more expensive in relation. Your are right though, it looks incredible :-)

  • the atoms a lot noisier, it also looks cooler to so id go with the Atom

  • which Caterham are road legal and the best road legal Caterham

or does the atom have road legal cars and which one is the best

road legal car Caterham or atom and which version is the best

    plz reply

  • @MrAloo14 "plz" learn how to construct a sentence before you post a comment.

  • @bigtitties1234 u lowlife nerd haha get a life

  • Anyone thought about the Atom V8 yet? We keep talking about the "underpowered" 4 cylinder version here...

  • just incredible!

  • @TeamMacroCosmos menuda mierda comparao con mi remault 12

  • As Top Gear put it, the Caterham is embarrassing.

  • Atom looks better and I would go with that, the chassis on the outside is just great. Still this is one hell of a race o.O

  • I'd love to see Atom with 2.2 vtec engine, like H22A7.

  • rather have the caterham

  • @MTBCallum1 I'd have the Atom any day over that thing. The Atom is more reliable, better looking, faster, and has a much higher cool factor IMO.

  • @kj7687 The Atom is heavier, has less displacement, has an unreliable Honda engine, is fly by wire, and is ugly as sin. I don't see your argument.

  • @spraynpray unreliable honda engine???? oooh, you're trolling.. I get it

  • @Nopiw Ok, I'll be more specific. Very very reliable engines, can last 200,000 miles without much work done to them. You know, unless you beat on them. Then they're worthless.

  • @spraynpray I don't see why a honde engine can't last 200000 miles. At least here in Europe, they do with ease.

  • @Nopiw I said they CAN last 200,000 miles. Thousands of people can get them past 200k miles! But if you regularly plan on going to redline, I personally suggest avoiding them. For whatever that is worth. Since this isn't face-to-face and you don't know me, my experiences aren't of much worth to you.

  • @Nopiw Yea seriously wth lol!? That guy has some pretty unreliable intel lol...

  • @spraynpray Ummm...what Nopiw said. My Honda CRX had 285,000 miles on it when I sold it, and was still running strong. This Caterham has a Ford engine in it...nuff said on that note. The Honda Atom engine is the same displacement, 2.0L, and puts out considerably more hp even in the naturally aspirated rendition, while the supercharged Honda K20 is good for 300 hp, way more than the R400's Duratec motor. Also the Atom is 52 pounds lighter than the R400. Where the heck are you getting your info!?

  • @kj7687 By the way 52 was a typo; it is actually a HUNDRED and 52 pounds lighter.

  • @kj7687 Whatever dude, troll on. 2.3l > 2.0l, 1200lbs<14XXlbs or however heavy the supercharged Atom is,* 150lb torque<177lb torque. *I'm guessing the supercharger and all included bits add up to over 50 pounds, to put it over 1400. And yet it still makes less torque than a total shit Ford in the Caterham. Race engine vs production honda engine with a blower.

  • @kj7687 Oh and you should find somebody else to agree with my on Honda motors and then say I'm wrong even though I said the exact same fucking thing you did.

  • @MTBCallum1 rather not.

  • @MTBCallum1 agreed

  • @thomas1255 yeah the american atom has a LSJ from the cobalt ss/ion redlines awesome motor lots of torque but i still have respect for the honda just not a fan

  • I love how buddy just puts that Honda engine through its paces, sounds nice.

  • dam that looks like fun

  • Man,I wanna see an Ariel with an SR20DET.

  • supercharged 2.0 type r lump

  • Pretty amazing how long the Lotus 7 has been around, and it's still amazing!

  • The Atom is the business!!!

  • the Atom does have a Honda engine, it from the Civic Type R

  • I go for Caterham. It's older than me and still does well. :)

  • Get rid of the windscreen and you lose a second or two around most tracks.

  • Which car is faster? I think it comes down to which driver is more insane.

  • what a beautiful track

  • The Atom is faster around the corners and seems much more stable.

  • ariel looks much more stable. The caterham you would need some serious balls to drive fast.

  • I'm having fun just watching...

  • GAWD you people can drive!

If they put the R400 in front, it wouldn't have been much of a race. :p

  • Anyone know what track this is?

  • @GRAHAMAUS never mind, seems it's Cadwell. I've done two track days there and didn't recognise it - D'oh!

  • Atom have trouble with breaking loose in the front end? Looked to be a bit harder to steer than the chase car

  • The Caterham R500 would beat them both

  • @shawn963741 Good thing there is the atom V8 that is said to destroy any car on this planet on the track but good try there. lol

  • @iceman241111. a V8? really? i would think that the extra weight would actually make it worse.

  • @julingy its actually a very small V8, I think its around 3L and its 2 Suzuki Hayabusa engines together and bored out a bit so its quite a light engine. I ride bikes and have a Caterham but if anything would make me give up bikes for ever, it would be for a chance to own the £150 000 Atom V8!

  • Ah, an MX5 racecar would beat them all LOL, search for "MX5 Cadwell" on my channel :)

  • MIND BLOWING ATOM !!!

  • Awesome vid - you can see how hard the guy in the R400 is working/pushing it to stay in reach of the Atom... what an amazing job these guys have!

  • Incredible video.

  • Honda engine sounds much better.

  • looks like the atom wins :-)

  • awesome track, cadwell?

  • Atleast Caterham solves the rain problem :P

  • Caterhan would have ariels pants down if it had the areoscreen on it and half doors to stop the buffeting " come on you cat "

  • @10296Cat.. the 7 is better looking but the atom is a faster car! numbers don't lie

  • Atom fails in the looks department.

Caterham's classic looks are much easier on my eyes.

Both are too insane to drive outside a race track.

  • The caterham needs to drop the windscreen, this will help it on the straights

  • this is a porn film

  • their basicly the same

  • Brilliant track !

  • Yep cadwell def

  • lol lol iv got the ariel atom3 super charged version iv had it since march , every time i drive it i learn a bbit more and scare the shit outa myself the acceleration is mind blowing , the road holding once the tyres are hot is superb , and dont mind taking any wolves lads out for a spin if im free on weekends , take a look at my picks , paul banks face book or go to youtube and type in ariel atom vs coke , by for now boys

  • Cadwell Park Circuit in Lincolnshire, England

  • Does any1 know what track this is?

  • @Bushby23

It seems to be Cadwell Park, Lincolnshire UK

  • i want to see the ariel atom 2.4litre v8 that is 500kg in weight and produces 500bhp

  • Funny, looks like Super Mario Kart in real life. Just need some banana peels and turtle shells!

  • The top of the range Caterham is not the R400, it's the R500 Superlight.....

  • I really love catrums , just lookin on eBay and u can put just about any engine u like in thm the atom is very similar in terms of performance really it's just a modern version .

  • It looks like because of its mid engine design, the ariel atom has a real tendency to have some over steer, and would be easy to spin out in an amateurs hands....

  • @magnum9987

Yeah Atom would be more of a handful especially in slippery conditions. It would be better to drive the front engined caterham on 'not perfect conditions' but the atom wins on track.

  • ktm xbow pl0x

  • theyre both sitting on the wrong side!! hahaha i love both of theses cars but would rather have the caterham

  • @goredskins29 Man, the right side IS the right side, all day....

but I know what ya saying.

These are both British designed and built cars, at an English circuit (Cadwell Park), so all's well, at least for this vid!

  • That atom is nuts...gheeez....that lotus has to weigh much more not that its a heavy car ,it seemed to handle the corners better than the atom,or maybe he could just brake later or something......both cars are great.

  • its a caterham.....

  • To drive an ariel is absolut amazing. I own a Ariel 3 with 320 hp and like too kill expensive Sportcars on the Street:-)

  • they should ban all cars but these two, the world would have much more fun

  • Atom looks like it has serious oversteer...well its rear engined so thats to be expected...right?

  • The Atom is absolute madness.

  • Actually saw an Atom on the road a couple of days ago. Much bigger irl than I expected. Gotta get one!!! Great race. Thanx for uploading.

  • I'd rather have the Atom, i think

  • @iwasadeum

nah the caterham has style and it's cheap! that's what i think, but i respect the atom as well :p

  • Agreed. I love either to cruise around in, but i think atom looks better XD Looks less like a car haha

  • @iwasadeum it costs more then twice as much

  • @iwasadeum a lot prettier and just about the same speed

and a honda engine hehe, sounds better

  • @vdFritz yeah, looks more like a car than a kit-car. The Caterham is still awesome, but just looks too flimsy

  • Wow the Atom engine sounds....bleh!

    That's a Honda engine, right?

  • No the Atom has 2.0 l Honda engine

(only american Atoms may have a GM-motor) and a Caterham has a Ford-engine

A lotus has a Toyota engine

  • @thomas1255 the 300hp atom has a supercharged civic type r motor. the lower power ones have the cobalt engine in em. and the new v8 atom 500 has a custom made ariel motor i think cuz idk who makes a 2.8L v8 thatll handle 10k rpm lol

  • @zmanbailey1 the new v8 is made by honda also but there full of it not even a rotory engin can go to 10k rpm

  • @THEARMEDLIFE the atoms supercharger 4cyl is a honda, the non supercharged is the 2.2 out of a cobalt because they say ECOTEC on them, a guy down the road has one that he takes to the track and shit so, and since when does honda make a v8, they dont and probly never will, the only company that i know of to ever make a 2.5L v8 has been nissan and ferrari and i doubt highly that ferrari is makin the engines for them. and im just goin off the website on the rpms, go look at their site, atom 500

  • @THEARMEDLIFE and a rotary will handle 10k very easy...we built one at school that shifts at 11,500 and we coulda made it handle more...it has no rev limiter and will rev to whenever the apex seals give out, if you strengthen the apex seals, get carbon fiber or whatever, itll handle 13 to 15k. the carbon fiber ones we got were rated to handle 15k from apexi

  • i might be wrong but i thin the elise and exige use a lotus made motor but the evora uses the toyota v6. im pretty sure the lil ones use lotus made 4cyls

  • @zmanbailey1 lotus elis and exige use a toyota 2zz-ge long block

  • @a111z oh new news to me but im not by any means an expert on lotus...the only lotus ive ever worked on was a vauxhall/lotus carlton...so i have no idea about exige and elise...i always thought they were lotus made motors

  • @THEARMEDLIFE ok i was wrong honda don't make the V8 i was miss informed i went on the web site it says some guys name that makes them

  • @THEARMEDLIFE - it's 2 Suzuki Huyabusa v4's mated together (to form v8) by an American firm, so you're not far out mate, I thought Honda made it too to be fair... can't remember name of firm but it's mentioned on Top Gear website somewhere.

  • @mattiothegreat!! - correction, having checked Suzuki site the engine's are IN-LINE 4'S @ roughly 1.3 litres (so two making 2.5-6l) so the guy's that mate them together must be doing a lot of work themselves... angles, crank, casing etc. Similar story with Radical SR8 apparently, see Wiki article named "Powertec RPA" - sorry, I'm being a bore... just fascinated by these feats of engineering!

  • @THEARMEDLIFE - I was wondering how the hell it would spin to 10k too!! the fact that it's two little Suzuki v4's mated makes a lot of sense.

  • @thomas1255 when this was made the caterham superlight r400 used the 1.8 rover vvc engine

  • @thomas1255 - Yeah, US "Atom 2's" use s-charged GM block, although early Lotus Elise models did have the Rover K-Series powerplant, followed also, by a GM 2.2na/2.0 Turbo (Hence Vauxhall VX220, which shared Elise platform and was joint venture) and then late Elise-2005ish / early Exige's used VVT, ZZ Toyota block (190brake) from late Celica... all engines Lotus used were running with custom Norfolk programmed ECU's... just to clarify, not all Lotus's have Toyota lumps.

  • you think it has a toyota engine? your such a panther fucker arent ya? =D

  • The caterham has a ford engine, the atom as a honda engine, do ur research

  • @MrPanthertennis no lol....its a honda...

  • @MrPanthertennis my bad lol

  • @JamesManimal

for what? these engines(350, 454, 500) weights half an Ariel or Caterham...These ''cars'' are faster with smaller engine supercharged or turbocharged, or V8 with small displacement and high revs., around the track.

  • this is not even the fastest caterham.

  • thats not the fastest atom

  • @sup3rcars...i really dont think you look like a geek in one of these as you claim. and you deff wouldnt feel like one when you fly by a ariel and any other competition

  • Impressive driving skills!!!

  • Love the blip of the throttle on the downshifts! :-D

  • @ ???

  • who won?dats the whole point of dis vdo right?

  • @umagigi Not being an illiterate fuck is the point. Learn English you tard.

  • @bobbytimberlake sore i no mi english sucks do u happen 2 hav a tutor in ur area and r u in ne way related to justin timberlake

  • bet the drivers are smiling :)

  • he has the doors on...

    he is a caterham noob

  • Even worse a windscreen, might as well used a parachute.

  • come on you really think it would help it that much? a caterham is a very very fast track car but the atom is alot more able- that's why it won. No other car can match it in it's price range except a radical(price?)- but then it would be close. Ariel atom will be my play thing if i win the lott! why spend loads when you can have honda performance/reliabilty and beat any aston porsche etc?

  • @boldswede

Oh yes it does make a considerable difference, not doubting that the atom would still win. The windscreen accounts for about 40% of the drag on a Caterham. But perhaps that is what seperates an atom from a Caterham.

  • He is in the Caterham...

  • @36hunters well done sherlock.

  • I was talking to the other guy sherlock.

  • @36hunters yet replied to me.

  • Good point you were that guy.

Lmao if you knew why did you say?

  • もの凄いスピードだな!

    terrible speed!!!

  • qdsaXZ

  • Now all they need in there is the Donkervoort GT

  • The what?

  • PUT SLICKS ON THIS BITCHES!!!!!

  • Seriously, why even bother with the doors on the Caterham.

  • SCARY FAST

  • Even without the supercharger, look at how much faster it pulls away from the Caterham

  • there is clearly a supercharger on it...

  • From what you can hear:- The lack of whine, No supercharger.

  • get better speakers or watch the whole video, during the second camera angle showing the atom the super wine is quite prevalent... very distinctive noise

  • I hear supercharger whine at 2:53

  • So the whine in the last 25 secs of the clip is the Caterham driver complaining he had the worse car then?

  • honda civic type r 300hp

  • no there not there 220
