These were the great old days of cable TV before they got greedy and started running adverts all night long. Back when the Discovery channel had original interesting programming and wasn't back-to-back episodes of 'American Chopper' or whatever crap they are currently running.
USA used to run 3-4 episodes of 'Night Flight' on Saturday nights, starting around 9pm and ending around 4-5am Sunday morning. Sometimes, my roommates and I would stay up all night.
Man, oh MAN...This was an awesome show to watch! I remember fondly sleeping over at my friend's place down the street when I was about 12....in the family room with lots of blankets and pillows...eating tons of Sweet Tarts and watching old Power Rangers footage (way before it became known as the stupid MMPRs)...Damn, I miss those times...
Night Flight was where I first saw Hell's Angels '69 and the first or second place (after MTV's Half-Hour Comedy Hour) I saw Chris Rock's stand-up. "Can I get just one Chicken McNugget?"

i remember something like this but it was the 1990's and it must have been the stuff where Tom Juarez. These shows were seen as late as 1996. with nothing but music videos and this guy talking
Did not start watching this show untill about 1992 I only watch about two hrs of it on the USA Network, that intro music reminds me a lot like "Heavy Metal".
Hehehe....seems so quaint now. I recall it was so "out-there" and dangerous back then...of course, cable TV was a different place...and in 1983, I wasn't supposed to be watching TV at 2 AM...maybe that's why it seemed dangerous...my Dad was gonna kill me if he came downstairs and found me... :)
@usergreg1498 Let's findyou a new daddy Jonhy ... But how??? You leave that to the professinals... Rob meet Jonny.... Nowthat's a DAD!!! WOW he even smells better like English Leather!!! That's right Johny! METAL GOD!
@usergreg1498 So True man the world was a different place .It was such a safer time for every one EXCEPT FRIDAY & SATURDAY NIGHT. Remember slinking out of your room and turning on the t.v. just loud enough to hear... this was the worst you could do ahh I miss my younger self. Seems so sweet and innocent doesn't it? I'd stay up all night then be exhausted the next day. My Fav Movie on nf was Fantasy Planet..
@97karenlacey The world is just as safe now, something called sensationalism makes you think otherwise. The corporate media is legally allowed to lie, so of course they cash in on fear-mongering! The REAL danger now lies in corporate government.
@cheapcape I don't agree, the world has always been a dangerous place, but in these last years have been much worse. One war after anorther. major natural disasters every year now! I remember this was late night. t.v. was interesting and not anatagonistic. Now most T.V. is ponographic poltic trash with out creativity. So yes it was safer I learned about music, culture artists real interests without perversion. I remember when dabate was a civil exchange.
Well, I caught most of them on the 3am, replays! Before the VCRs became common (I remember renting the VCPlayers when I rented the tape) - having Nightflight and WTBS repeating stuff was a "godsend?" *L*
Even after MTV came on, there was always room for Nightflight!
The "Regans on Drugs" was among my faves... The Atomic Cafe - "Ladies and Gentlemen The Fabulous Stans" with Diane Lane & Laura Dern... I see that it's finally out on DVD!
I miss this show so much-- and yes, I've got bits and clips of it on VHS buried in the garage somewhere... definitely worth staying up very late on a saturday night!
I, too, remember this show! I used to watch it for their Heavy Metal heroes spot. Hope you find your VHS copy! When you do, save it and guard it with your life!
