  • this is what I do to your mom every night.... splooge!

  • i play with led based paints because i hate everyone of those little fucking kids who drive by and paintball me

  • ale żal

  • were would you even get a glass barrel and how much would it cost cuase i want to show up to my range and ppl go " that looks awesome "

  • I was wondering if a paintball hits the sides of a barrels a few times when traveling down a barrel.

  • I hate to say it but its wasted research as you have no idea what qauntities of compounds where used at whatever manufacturer, and the fact that paintballs deteriorate over time, aswell as with any manufacturing process, its never absolutely perfect. Chances are it could be a poor seal or thin shell wall. Its common knowledge that cheaper paint breaks more. Why? Id say its likely to be the above mentioned points, especially manufacturing tolerance.

  • Do they make a glass or a plexi barrel for like general sale ? if so i need one that would be a awesome set up

  • I think that your glass barrel might be too small for the ball. The ball might also be out if shape, and thus cause the ball to rub along the side of the barrel or in this case break due to the speed of the paintball. The humidity temperature may effect the size of the ball and you may need different barrels for certain weather conditions. Nice Experiment and GREAT footage.

  • paintball paint is water based. correct?

  • Anyone who wants to know just ask tom kay from AGD. He did this shit over 14 years ago and it hasn't changed.

  • Somethings have changed. The high end paint now is a LOT more fragile than it was back when Tom did all of his testing.

  • i have never chopped or had a barrel break in my ego7 w/ lucky barrel

    leave dwell stock

    have good batteries

    leave eyes on

    no problems

i did chop in my pm7 ramping w/ eyes off- but i had the same barrel and it CLEAN ITSELF! haha lucky barrels are awsome

  • ohhhhhhhhhh nooooo not a barrelbreak, everyone call ollie lang and the pros and tell them that a ball broke

  • David Brent does paintball?

  • you don't need to decide weather a person needs to buy a 1200$ gun i have a 1400$ gun and i love it a lot more than my old 400$ gun!

  • Anti Climax........... the whole breaking of the paintball was rather depressing. i was expecting something a little more impressive

  • ok its fucking paintballl. who cares if a ball breaks. people are so obsessed with it that they have to go do a test on it and a diagnosis on how the ball breaks. if a ball breaks its not a big deal.

  • To some people it is a really big deal. Some poeple do this for a living and when their is 120 thousand dollars on the line or a hummer like at the Spider World series paintball tournament. They would like to know the likeliness of a paintball breaking in their individual barel. I play just for fun. But some people play for a living. And I think it would be awesome to play for a living.

  • it can be a big deal, it could screw up many different things, but really how likely is that.

  • I like to be more accurate with less paint... than spray and pray! so yeah, that one ball, could have been a headshot on one of my victims. I DO CARE about that ONE ball lol

  • It is very important and it is a big deal. a barrelbreak is not a good thing, not for professional players nor for fun players. If u have a barrelbreak in the field, u gonna have to take the barrel off, clean it, screw back on. It costs time, and lots of it when u r in the game. So the chance is big u gonna get hit....hmmm no fun.

  • @mortalsting They make barrel squeegees for that sort of thing, there's no need to take the barrel off the gun during a game.

  • @jackscagnetty ....a squeegee works much better than a swab....a swab just jams the paint into your breach. They're pretty pointless. Plus they're all gunky after you use them and they pick up dirt and such. Squeegees clean ALL the paint out, and then you can easily swing the paint off by whipping it around or wipe it. It is a pain to take your barrel off in a speedball match, and definitely not recommended.

  • @TyVan11 I don't even remember what I've written, I agree that a squeegee is better though, I've never used the swab before and don't really see their use, if they even have one.

  • In the weeks leading to a big meet with friends (once every few months about 20-30 of us go out....) i find myself watching tv with my marker and a squeegee. i practice taking the barrel off, cleaning it and replacing it. When you do it enough, it becomes almost second nature, and it only take s15-20 seconds to do well. That's what works for me, just my 0.02$

  • If u dont clean your barrel, that broken ball is gonna screw up all the shots u make afterwords. and the frustration of not being able to hit any1 at even 10 meters away is gonna kill the fun of the game. And he uses glas because most of the expensieve barrels r made of carbon fiber and have a glas finnish.

  • dumb ass if a ball breaks then every other ball shooting out ur gun is guna curve or go straight into the ground until u clean the barrel. its very important to not have barrel breaks

  • have u ever thought that ur barrel has a glass shard in it

  • There has to be like a thousand variables i feel bad for you haha

  • wow

  • cool videos man , keep them coming , and ignore all the haters who are mad cuz you know more about paintball than them !! :)

  • i support you!

  • Should rename this video "Guy rambles on and then something happens for about a second."

  • That would be pretty amusing, but I try to keep my descriptions a little more relevant. :-)

I realize not all of my videos are for everyone. :-)

Feel free to skip the sciency videos if they aren't your thing. :)

  • I think it's really interesting.

  • @manike99 Its a good vid! TY for the work showing us what happends in slow motion. This is not something just anyone can run out and video for us..

  • Thanks for understanding and appreciating it. If you want to check out more stuff and get into it in detail please check out the new forum on my website.

    Thanks

    Simon

  • you can see it wobble and then stretch

  • Dude. STOP. TALKING!

  • tht pree cool;

  • holy shit he has a glass barrel

  • my Dm5 with the newer edition of the DYE barrels keeps doing it quite often, say once every practise:p but never with torunament balls,, so its practiseballs thats been manhandled or just had a flaw... in my oppinion anyways

  • you need a new Detend =P

  • detent...and that still wouldnt change the paintball breakin in the barrel...if it broke on the detent then it would look alot more like a chop

  • if you got a bad ass detend on ONE side i bet 100 Bucks you get a lot of barrel breaks , got the problem on my ul pmr backup.

  • haha unfortunatly i dont think we can bet on it but yeah i dont not belive yu (double negative) i just dont understand why yu wouldnt get a new detent

  • because it was an ironicly?! posting.but you dont understand that ..

  • maybe you dont understand that ironicly is an adverb and that sentance isnt complete and yes i did get that it was just you talking but this is the internet and theres millions of morons that do what you did but mean it seriously

  • just get a good bore match

  • bad paint = barrel breaks we use shit paint we touch it with our hands stuff it into pods run around with it bouncing around dump it into our hopper smash it around in our hoppers have it forced down into the breech either cyclone or electric hopper hit it with a bolt burst of air down a barrel thats what happens, you get less with good paintballs
  • are you familiar with a concept called "ball chopping"? that is when the gun is fired before the ball has finished falling into the firing chamber and the bolt is pushed forward with the paintball halfway between the wall and the top of the bolt causing the ball to literally be "chopped" in half. consider that, make a video of it if you want, and tell us what you think

  • apparently the shell stuck or jammed in the barrel and the air put pressure behind it forcing it so the paint ripped through the barrel

  • yeah thats what im thinking, perhaps if it were slowed down a bit we might find out

  • Hey Simon, Bryce Larson here - I work with Gordon on the PunkWorks stuff.

How far into the barrel is the break?

  • It's at the beginning. The ball is usually broken before you start seeing most of the paint streaks in the barrel.

  • sorry, maybe I was unclear - how far into the barrel did the break event happen? .5", .75", 1", 2"?

I'm looking for an idea about whether the break happened right as the air blast hit the ball - or after accelleration has started?

  • Sorry, I've been really busy!

The ball is broken at it's entry to, or before it actually enters the barrel. Most "barrel breaks" appear to be caused by issues before they enter the barrel itself.

The ball in this video was clipped by the top of the breech. You can see the slight smudge at the top of the breech even though the majority of the paint is spread out further down the barrel.

  • sure. We've been in conversation with Jack Wood from Plant Eclipse. We're getting to the point where we're really having a hard time creating a "true" barrel break. It seems that everything we run into involves damage to the ball during the loading / cambering cycle - this information really backs that idea up. Thanks.

  • I agree with that theory.

What's a "true barrel break"? Do you have a definition?

I agree that for the vast majority of occurrences, breaks in the barrel are caused at, or before, the ball enters the beginning of the barrel.

  • my theory on a ball break is if you keep your barrel clean and possibly put a little bit of oil in the barrel the ball wont break because the ball will not stick to the sides of the barrel, i do that and i never have barrel breaks. look in to the idea of ball chopping, i have left a comment on that describing what it is

  • if u put oil in ur barrel ur shots will be so inaccurate

  • can you please post a video showing this because i put oil in my barrel and my gun's accuracy is great.

  • i have never done it and i dont want to use my own barrel but all my field techs and mike from techpb tell u to never do that or put lube in your barrel threads

  • well mine works great so maybe you just have a low quality barrel

  • idk my flatline will fuckup with it cuz of the like grains that put the backspin on the ball but, idk i cant express my opinion seeing how im a nooby rec-baller that has 1 gun and never used anything else

  • well dont think you cant express your opinion man. i highly suggest persuing a hobby in paintball, what kind of gun do you have?

  • i got an A-5, recently got an e-grip too

  • nice dude, i, personally, dont care too much for the A-5 because, to me, it seems like just a gun. but thats just my opinion

  • Ill try it at the weekend? Check my channel

  • i think i've had one of those on my BT4 with opsgear m4 barrel 16". paint was only on the barrel for the last inch, i have no idea how it happened, and so far that's the only break i've had since i got my BT, i'm asuming the ball was slightly larger or deformed compared to the others and as it ran down the barrel it caused too much friction and burst.

  • you know hes right cuz he has the accsent

  • funny how that ring blocks the view, MUST BE THE RING!!!!

    Cursed ring of broken paint

  • amazing video Simon.

  • cool stuff

  • I believe there is some magical property emanating from the finger tip.

  • Its really hard to tell what is happening because it appears it breaks under the clamp. Could you provide a video showing it at a slower frame rate or possibly frame by frame to see what is happening?

  • Hey LordOdin, not sure if you saw Simons comment later on but it looks like the paintball either broke right as it came out or was damaged before it even entered the barrel. You can see a small amount of paint on the top of the barrel before the ring and explosion.

Great video Simon, thanks for sharing!

  • Simon, do you think it is more due to excelleration, deformation, friction, or a combination of more than one?

  • All of the above, and more.

There really are a lot of reasons and details that can cause one gun to break more paint than another.

I'll see you at Waynes World for the Grand Finale, or maybe at EMR if you still make it up there. :)

  • Sounds great! Always a great time hanging out with you.

I let the wife know that a condition of me moving was flying back for Castles. :)

  • Smart man. ;)

  • Nice vid Simon

  • watching this closely...

  • yup, that splatter pattern is something we noticed in all of our barrel breaks.

  • Good vid fella! i hope your going to expand on this in a later vid, you have me interested =]
