What i dont get is how the universe could NOT be infiinite, i learned in 8th grade geometry that a line extends forever in both directions. Space is math its geometry so is the "universe" all the matter we have then if you extend beyond it its just empty space forever? he can space NOT extend forever? thats NOT what my 8th grade geometry teacher taught me. Also, how could space itself not exist? like at time of big bang? space is geometry it would still exist?

@Zurround100 Interesting comment! I also believe our Universe is an infinity this can be in the form of an infinite process. This dynamic process continuously forms the geometry of spacetime that the observer feels as the passage of time.

Space is a substance. A medium. It is possible for space to not exist somewhere. It is thought it existed nowhere before the big bang. A little tippy to think about, but basically there wasn't even a void before the bang. Not even black emptiness, because that would require space. If our universe has an edge, outside it there still isn't a void, just a perfect nothingness we cannot imagine.

Basically, the big bang was not an explosion in space, but an explosion of space.

@Fetchdafish It doesn't have to be nothingness. Nobody can know what there is or isn't. But claiming there is nothing else but our universe (like other universes or something completely beyond our imagination), is a bit like claiming we are the only life in the universe.
