I love fishing with my lightest rod and 2lb line for carp however if the fish get into weed or lillies there is little chance of landing them. My best on this gear is 12lb but I catch many more than others near me because of my system. Fish very light with a size 4 hook into a chunk of fresh bread about the size of my fist floating on the edge of the lillies. Never fails.

That last fish looked more than 16lb and it is possible to catch bigger fish than what lb line you have like today i caught a nice carp it weighed 7lb on 4 lb line, its all about playing the fish and not bullying them

also you dont need 6 line to catch a 16lb fish i alsways use 3 pound line and still land big fish

First of all I didnt weigh the fish so I dont know much it weighed, 16lb was an estimate. Yes I did use a 6lb line, which doesnt mean I have to only catch fish up to 6lb. If I understand your comment, I think you are saying that there is no way I can net a 16lb fish using 6lb line?

@carpangler89 It is possible as you said to catch bigger carp than what lb line you have, like today i caught a 7lb carp on only 4lb line was a nice little common. And btw the second carp looks biiger than 16

6lb line should be no problem for a 16lb fish...I have caught an 18lb carp on 6lb line, and a 17lb on 4lb line...if you give line and backwind when the fish goes on a run,, and don't jerk the line it should not break.

@mbigland Depending on the skill on the angler you can catch big fish on a very light line, it's all about a rod that compensates for the line, and a good set drag.

Rigs you used would be good.

I caught my first carp this weekend, was an "F1", bout 2lb or 1kg. Used medium waggler, 6lb line, size 12 hook and double maggot as bait. I went on to catch 5 more carp this weekend.

Nice carps man! I like to catch carp on bread. I just grab a small piece of bread and I roll it up into a dough ball so it will not fall off the hook. It works great for me.
