  • I own a 78 GN but DAYUM that vette sounds good!!

  • They stopped making the GN because they stopped making the G-body Regal, and no other reason. The only "business decision" made was to go to the fwd chassis due to it being a lower cost to GM and getting with the times as other mnfers were going to fwd platforms. In 88 they went to the fwd unibody chassis and the leftover engines ended up in the 88 only TTAs. Its a shame they didn't offer it in the C4 or as an option in the TA after 88. A 3.8T in a smaller lighter car has to be a riot.

  • imadrunkenfooL11 - I raced a 2008 dodge challenger with a 6.1L Hemi 425hp@6000rpm/420ft.-lbs@4800r­pm (which has 25hp and 20ft.-lbs more than the '07 Vette" And completely whomped him.. We raced about 5 times and I pulled on him every time. BUT HOW COULD THIS BE!? My WE4TT isn't bone stock, just heavy duty stuff cause i beat on it. But i know I'm not running more than 300 hp, and I'm still pumpin 15psi. Why did I win? BAD ASS Factor that's why.. My car was built to bully V8 cars.

  • @RegalTurboT87 - The 07 Vette weighs in around 3300lbs and Challenger with over 4100+lbs. Even IF you beat the Challenger - doesn't mean you could beat the c6 vette which weighs 800lbs less than the Charger. A stock C6 with 400HP and only 3300lbs will do 0-60 in 4.2 seconds from the factory. A stock GN (lightened edition) runs Low 5s High 4s (only with tweaking to the turbo) A regular GN is in th high 5s. The vette driver in this video didn't know how to drive stick. BTW Z06 0-60 3.8 500+hp

  • No, a Stock 87 GN can waste a new Vette. i have a stock GN and it does. it beats all small block cars and some big blocks.

  • Stock GN's and GNX's do not run times anywhere near what a stock C5 or C6 vette is capable of. You are dreaming. Post some videos of your car at the track and we'll see.

  • Well, the 2008 corvette runs the 1/4 mile in 12.8 seconds at 113.5 mph and the 1987 GN runs it in 14.2 at 95 mph, again both stock. So you sir, are incorrect. The Grand National's were fantastic cars and very innovative, but if they are completely stock compared to a new Corvette, they don't stand a chance.

  • let's NOT forget the 1989 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans Am (TTA) which had 10 more hp then the 1989 Formula Trans AM GTA WITH the TPI 5.7 and the TTA made 340 ft-lbs. of torque @ 2800 RPM while the 5.7 made 345 ft-lbs. @ 3200 RPM

  • No they stopped building them because TRs were whooping the girly corvette's asses. Just as the Syclone did in 91 and the Typhoon did in 92. In 87 your daddy's stock vette was not beating a GNX with slicks or otherwise. Chevy couldn't stand the fact that a family car was kicking the shit out of there pride and joy. Execs at GM weren't too happy either.

  • Do some research little kid..they stopped production of Gn's because customers were complaining they were paying more for a corvette that was getting smoked by a REGAL!!! And since corvettes sold more they made a business decision.. But since ur uneducated and prolly drive a v6 camaro at best you wouldnt have known any of that.

  • The reason GN production ended was because the Regal became a front wheel drive platform in 1988.

  • @H2Prince back then vettes were shnitty, i had one it had 235 horses stock, (it had it written in the console beside the shifter like it was something to be proud of) so in 87 vettes had less horses than any sweey ride does now

The funny part is that the 3.8 liter V6 in Camaro that you are referring to, is the same V6 cast iron block that went in the Grand National " GNX - WE2 or 4" option which had 274 hp 360 ft/lbs of torque. the camaro engine well its redux of course and massaged down. but the bore and stroke were essentially the same if he had any brains, he could take that V6 a twist here and a twist there. reprog the EEPROM after a dropping in a new turbo of today = zoom!

  • I guess your daddy never lined up against a Syclone with his VETTE. I have Sy that is stock minus a KB Chip, exhaust and has ran is quick as a 12.49. 60 ft times in the 1.6s. Try that with a stock Vette on the street!!!! Another piece of GM turbo technology that is still hard to beat today! By the way, Im not bashing Vetts, I actually love them! My garage consist of a 76 Stingray, 88 Iroc, 86 Iroc, 82 Z28 , 03 Mustang GT conv, and last my prized GM possesion 91 Syclone!

  • There is a 21 year or so technology gap there and the 08 zr1 runs about 100k! It should suck the paint off anything on the road. What is funny though, you can invest maybe 8 or 9k in a stock GN and get about the same straigt line performance as the 08 zr1.

My friend fired off a high 12 with $5 invested in one. $5. Adjustable wastegate rod and some 116=12's. Lets see a subaru do that with a $5 part haha

If its not black its likely a t-type or a TurboT which was made in 87 only and they have the exact same drive train as a Grand National, and then of course theres the GNX which was also all black and had a different turbo with a ceramic impeller,etc and various other performance mods over a standard GN or t-type/turboT,etc

  • Actually the 1982 GN was painted a dark silver gray, but 1984-1987 GN's came black.

  • No I never said I hated vette's wouldn't mine owning one someday. I just think it's funny, boosting a vette would cost 4 times as much as just upping the boost on a Grand National. Which will still beat the vette. If this vette were a Z06 then the GNX would have some trouble for sure and would loose to a boosted Z06. Though it would depend on the mods.
