You know, the pilot episode had the credits actually flipping as opposed to the standard "flash" that most Universal TV series from the 1970s and 1980s did.
That interstitial must have taken some time to put together, too, since it was pre-computer.
The main thing is that the opening and closing had a particular art design that was a signature of distinction and class. It was completely abandoned later on and the show lost whatever it was that set it apart..

The title sequence as seen from 0:18 to 0:22 may have been the basis for the opening titles of WOR-TV's "The 4 O'Clock Movie" in the late 1970's.
