Every time I watch a polyglot's multilingual video which includes Japanese, no matter how impressed I am with their European languages, I usually find myself let down by their Japanese. It makes me lose respect for them, and to doubt their abilities in the other languages, too. But Steve Kaufmann is the real deal - his Japanese is so natural, and a real pleasure to listen to! Thanks for being such an inspiration, and proving that fluency in 'exotic' languages as an adult is attainable :)

Mr. Steve, how long does it take you to be this fluent in a language?

I lived in Japan for nine years. The key thing is to enjoy the process and not to worry about how long it takes. The journey is the goal.

@lingosteve I envy this experience.. how do you get to live in a foreign country for nine years? Are you a millionaire or do you have a job which allows you to work abroad?

@svsimon My work took me there in the seventies.
