I've never been a fan of transforming cars, trains, lions, planes or whatever else you can come up with into a mech like the power rangers cause it always seems very silly and highly unpractical. I really wish Dangaioh was a solid mech cause it would make more sense and would seem like it could take more abuse.
@TekkaSage On the other hand, it allows for the parts to be transported to the battlefield separately and under their own power, and assembled quickly on location. Also, if they are individually capable of combat, they aren't as crippled as a non-combiner would be if, say, the main body is taken out. And if they connect their power sources in some manner, then that's a larger pool of energy to draw from, allowing for longer operation time. All in all, an even trade-off, I would say.

One thing I want to say is that I think Gil Berg's voice would be a nice voice for Bass/Forte; Megaman's nemesis. He'd totally rock with a sinister and menacing voice like that. At least in my opinion that is.

I love Dangaio! I remember watching this OVA back in the early 90's. A couple of years ago at AX I bought the original VHS of the first OVA episode for $2. TWO DOLLARS!!

I never had the pleasure to see Dangaioh but this is for sure this is one of the best animations ever and of course the Obari's mchanical desings are marvelous
This has probably got to be the best animation I've seen in a long time. When I first saw this, I was totally amazed - the storyline and the characters just melded without effort.
For those who haven't seen it, Gunbuster is also similar, but with a more dramatic tone.

the word side kick was a translation error, because it's psychic wave and psychic slash, not side kick wave and side kick slash.
