SolomonJonesIsBack is right. Why waste top shelf for a youtube vide? Besides, in practically every bar I've ever been to, they stock up on the cheap stuff and usually serve it, unless the customer asks for top shelf. Good video either way.
IIRC, cocktails came into vogue during Prohibition to cover up less than ideal base spirits (e.g. bathtub gin). So if anything, using "cheap" spirits is probably more faithful than using premade sour mix with Patron for a margarita or making a Rusty Nail with Johnnie Walker Blue.
If all your components are high-quality, then use the better stuff. But most modern spirits are pretty consistent so I've no problem using Jim Beam white or Seagram's Gin in cocktails.
