Dental Health : Can You Pop an Abscessed Tooth?

I had a abscess on my gum about a year ago it was really painful and swelled up i went to the dentist and they gave me these horrible antibiotics and this drink which made my mouth feel funny the lump never went away but the pain was released it looks horrible and now it the last day or so i have found an abscess on the other side of my mouth it really hurts i have this horrible habbit where i just want to press it down i'm not sure why and i don't know what to do!

What shall i do? please help!

i had an absess on my upper left mouth, it wasnt painful.

yesterday, it was applying some pressure to it...heard a popping noise, and the absess started to shrink

here's the weird part, even though the absess shrunk, there was no sign of the drainage. a few hours later my heart started to race and i felt dizzy.

is it possible that the absess drained backwards through a cavitity, and into my blood stream? thanks

...my started almost RIGHT AFTER my mom took me to the dentist! i got it about 5 days ago, and just yesterday it popped on its own while i was at kholes (looking for boots) and this sweet nasty stuff was just coming out, and it pretty much drained it all... but its not completly drained... what do i do now??

this is SO DUMB! don't ever pop it on your own!! bacteria can go down to your lungs or close your airway, and who knows if you hit a blood vessel. I'm not even a dentist and this is common sense to me.

@DawgcityClev They sterilize it, inject it with medication, and then drain it. If you aren't trained, you could swallow the bacteria, leading to an infected airway and/or lungs which could be fatal. Do you really want to take that risk, or would you rather just see a professional? Not to mention, there are facial arteries that you could hit.

It's more than just "draining shit and getting paid thousands".

i went to UCLA for an abscessed molar, b-cuz i didn't have insurance & i heard it was cheaper there.

the student numbed me good so i couldn't complain about him using his gloves on the computer & then sticking them in my mouth. he drilled my tooth then he left me unattended for 15minutes & said he had an emergency. i was in ER..

he drilled the infection into the tissue of my jaw & filled it..

i ended have an abscess leak out my thru my jaw.

i popped an abscess in my 1st molar about 3 months ago. i went in to see my dentist last week about it and he said everything was fine. if you do this operation yourself you need to make sure you follow all the steps, not just some home remedy you thought up

This technique isn't advised. The head has no valves in the veins and there is a way for the infection to travel against the venous flow and infect the base of the brain. People die from these infections. Some of what I see on Youtube is what you'll have to resort to under Obamacare in Obamastan. I had an abcessed tooth at one time so i know what to do. Going to the dentist is very beneficial when this starts to happen

i brush my teeth 2 times a day no. im in high school, i wouldnt dare not to brush my teeth. i had a bad tooth ache and the doctor said it was sinus. now i have one of these abscess things over a tooth. i think it was caused by the antibiotic the doc put me on. last year when my sinus's where acting up it caused pain in the exact same area, my top left k 9 tooth. i hate sinus problems, its just part of life.

I have a friend who thought he had a abscess on the inside of the upper pallet. He ignored it for months,just squeezing the odd bit of puss out here and there. Finally after me and some of his other friends nagged him to go to the dentist, he went only to be transfered directly to hospital. Turned out not to be an abscess but a cancerous tumor the size of a golf ball. The doc cut it out and the friend had a bit of Chemotherapy. He's OK now, thank god.

I had an abscessed lower tooth that was so painful I had to wrap and dishtowel around the swelling to ease the pain when I moved. Finally, after the weekend, I went to an emergency dentist that referred me to an oral surgeon. This fellow, took one look, had another doc come in and hold my head and hand and with one swift incision excised the lump on the outside of my jaw line. No numbing, just one blow and the relief was tremendous. The relief was immediate.
