ahhhhhh this song takes me back to the first older man i dated! he was one hot puerto rican deputy sheriff in orlando and i soooooooooo associate this song with him for some reason. he loved country music.
I've always loved this song, never in my mind I'd ever thought I could meet some one like that, but I did,My daughter,Mi Maria,Now matter what she may think or feel about me,This songs always gonna be about her! Di'Amo Mi Bambino,Eterno
This is a terrific song by a great singer. Sadly, B.W. was only 38 years old when he died, in the Spring of 1988, while on the operating table having heart valve surgery. R.I.P. ~ B.W.
@Albacorewing ~ I use to roll thru Amboy all the time while heading from L.A. to Laughlin, Nevada. There is still a 70 mile stretch of the old Route 66 (a.k.a. National Trails Highway) which runs from Ludlow thru Amboy, Essex and on into Needles. Last time I was in Amboy they had (finally) closed Roys Motel which had originally opened in 1922 and was open, continually, until just a few years ago. The little post office was still open halfday. It's still a nice change from I-40.
I heard this song it freaked me out because it reminded me of the music from mars attacks that kills those aliens but I listened to the whole song and it is so beautiful.
i heard a inerview with b&d talking about recording this song. they just really loved the song. i mean, have we ever heard it enough? they just changed one part so it wasn't exactly the same. i was always happy to hear it again but i didn't like the change. i still listened tho! it is a great song!
This song came out the same week my late Pop took me on a trip to the Grand Canyon. I first heard it on the way home, on Highway 66, about 10 miles east of Amboy, CA. It was August 1973. Then it got popular. My Pop and I drove in his 1970 Cadillac El Dorado. Amboy was just then bypassed by U.S. 40 and was already sliding into ghost town status.
I'm not a big country music fan but this excellent song goes to show you no matter what category of music you prefer.....you don't choose the song...the song chooses you!
I said many times that this was a song from the early 70s, but all the Brooks & Dunn fans said, "Oh NO, it's a Brooks & Dunn song". PFFFT. I like B.W.'s version much better - plus it's HIS song.
I just love this song. It's so uplifting. And who can help singing along with it?
