  • Just watched "The Edge" seeing Bart again brought me to tears

  • oh poor bart what a sweet bear he was. i admit i cried so sad he gone

  • The most beautiful thing I have ever seen. Thanks to the Sues's.

  • RIP BART...

  • ARE THERE ANY PROGRAMS IN MANITOBA CANADA?,I WOULD LOVE TO WORK WITH BEARS

  • ....I've never cried so hard in my life, I've had friends that were animals, A dog named Molly..and tabby cat named Angel.. and Rouger.. Another dog, a chocolate lab at that.. and When knew he was gonna die.. He did the same thing Bart did....It was like he was giving me his essence.. his entire soul.. It's hard living without a good friend. more than a friend. My Brother.

  • wow................love you Bart.

  • Where did these onions come from?

  • Tyle komentarzy i żadnego polaka ;>

  • What a wonderful and amazing clip.... Bart was a really beautiful bear. <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

  • I liked bart in The Edge.

  • thumbs up if you want a bart of your own

  • Amazing, one of the few stories of somebody keeping a wild animal as a pet and successfully living out it's life in captivity without mauling anybody. Bears are fuckin' awesome.

  • what this guy does is admirable and steve irwin said it best"you want to protect the things you love" and without getting up close and seeing these creatures for the diverse thinking beings they are and not just a fucking target you wouldnt know they are as complex as this...good on these guys!

  • These people are no idiots at all if others who want to keep a wild animal as a pet ?

whould do it with the same target admiration devotion love and sence far less acidents would happen sadly there are idiots who want fast fame and money and they have no idea what they are doing they think they know, and that,s the danger

  • these people are fucking idiots. we're talking about a damn bear. they're not pets and shouldn't be kept as one. ridiculous.

  • @unccarolinabseball of course they should if some imbecilic piece of redneck inbred crap blew their mother away for fun and they'd die without someone like this guy to take em in and raise em...been hunting lately chum?!

  • I love seeing things like this. It shows that there really is a profound connection between humans and nature that is lost upon so many. I don't work with bears (and quite frankly would be quite nervous around even the tamest of them) but I do work with animals. Mostly parrots (They don't bite as hard :-) But I love seeing people forming such wonderful relationships with any animal. Bart was to Doug what my Maggie (a blue and gold macaw) is to me :-)

  • Wow, I did not know that Bart had died. I thought he was the one in An Unfinished Life with Robert Redford and Morgan Freeman, and Furry Vengeance with Brenden Fraser. Maybe Little Bart or Honey Bump was in those films. Bart was a wonderful actor, a real thrill to see in pictures. Doug is an amazing trainer. Bart is missed.

  • Doug is an inspiration to me. Don't know if I have the nerves to be around Huge grizzlies.

  • There needs to be more people in the world like Doug and Lynne

  • I have the deepest admiration for Doug and Lynne!

  • i saw the edge before, bart is amazing!!!imma try to watch the bear

  • THIS COUPLE HAS FOUND THE CONNECTION

  • had a dream about Bart last night:)

  • after watching this i feel like killing bear hunters.

out of curiosity, am i the only one who feels like this?

  • @sparklerbombg Why would you want to kill hunters? They report the majority of poaching incidents by a HUGE margin. Hunters are responsible, empathetic people that are environmentally conscious.

  • @sparklerbombg

Like Doug says, they have a lot in common with us. Good and bad. That means there are some really nasty characters out there. Like the guys who ate Timmy Treadwell...

  • Comment removed

  • @sparklerbombg

Not at all. I despise hunters. I endorse your petition for hunting bear hunters.

  • @sparklerbombg i say kill all hunters who dont kill out of pure necessity! i have no respect at all for people who call themselves hunters while shooting an animal from a large distance. go fight it, fair and square. with knife or speer. i love animals and i would like to have a friendship like doug had with bart rather than being mr.populair and having zero friends at all! My dogs, family , all of nature mean more to me than anything else i could get in return of this sickening human society!

  • @sparklerbombg So you won't kill bears, but you'll kill humans.

  • @sparklerbombg I don't feel like killing anyone but ok.

  • Emagine the world we would be living in if all of us were in their state of mind....

  • ♥♥♥

  • That was one huge bear!

  • What the hell is wrong with the people that marked "dislike" on this video?

  • Calm

    Down!

  • is the owner of bart saved because if he is then he will see bart again someday. this is only a parting time.

  • i will cry myself to sleep tonight knowing that bart is dead and i didnt even know that bart had passed away.

  • awwwwwwww

  • Thank you for this post. If I could only have one favorite this would be the one. Fresh wind to the heart and soul. Tears mixed with laughter from 7:03...to end. To Doug&Lynn and all involved, credited or uncredited-well done, well done indeed! How could anything that powerful be so gentle? Seeing the love between Doug and Bart three words surface-(pure-undiluted-envy).

  • what a wonderful relationship these bears have with their trainer they seem really happy very refreshing to see XD

  • Great trainer and fantastic bear! Best friendship in the world !

  • how can you u dislike this vid

  • I did not know Bart had passed away - and geez - 11 years ago! I didn't

  • Comment removed

  • We call this bear beautiful because it is doing what its human trainer is telling it to do. In effect, he is losing his 'bearness' to become more like us. Not to mention the fact that they made money by making him work. How is this not animal abuse? Doesn't make sense to me. If he attacked humans, as any wild animal would do, would it mean that he was not so beautiful?

  • @fernandesfran

What should he do with a bear born in captivity? Just let him alone the whole day in a fucking cage?

They never would survive in wild, somehow you have to keep them busy. Don't think the bears feel abused...They could easily bite his head off if they would.

  • @fernandesfran there are many humans that act like monsters and are forced to live in a cage when captured. Do you call that human abuse? I mean, why choose Bart when you can start with Lassie or Benjie? Do you own an animal? What Bart and Doug had was extremely rare. In any state in america you can get a bear tag, go out and hunt and kill a grizzly, Doug choose to befriend one. You should focus your energy on something that makes sense, you clearly lack the capacity for common sense

  • Tune in to 6:00 on the video and you will see the answer to that.

By the way: attacking humans isn't what makes animals wild. That's usually the response of rogue/disease/starved animals or the direct result of humans provoking them. Most wild animals avoid human contact. I was brought up to love nature - but to also understand that i needed to keep my distance from wild animals and respect that they were dangerous at times It's about raising awareness for conservation - which Bart did.

  • i tried not to cry through this whole fime of the and passing of Bart the bear..

  • Heart warming, beautiful story!! The world needs more of this!! : )

  • They are like giant super intelligent pet dogs that can stand! :D

  • i cryed for 1 hour when i heard he died

  • bart rocks!

  • thumbs up if you cried when Doug did

  • @rikard1991 I cried before Doug started crying...

  • @rikard1991 i am sobbing like i have never cried before and i didnt even know bart was dead :'(

  • @rikard1991 I was like, "What? I won't cry when he cries like the top commenter says"

    I did cry man

  • @rikard1991 i cried my eyes out at that part.

  • do they live on the ranch with bears Free ? or are they Fenced in ?

  • When I first saw the movie...The Edge, I always wondered about the part of the bear. I was always wondering if Bart would sit for a minute and think to himself...."hmmmm how am I going to do this scene with Anthony Hopkins?" Or when Bart was chasing the actor's on the movie Edge through the woods..I often wondered if Bart would think to himself & say...."hmm....I wonder if I should do this scene this way instead of that way". Then I found out Bart had a trainer the whole time! :) I luv Bart

  • I really enjoyed the 7:00-7:56. What a great friendship! Thank you Doug Seus for sharing Bart with us, the world.

  • Im so jealous to Doug, bears are most amazing animals on this planet. He´s life is like some disney movie comes to live.

  • I'm glad I found this. Bart was always a favorite of mine as a kid. I always liked BIG things--I was obsessed with space, dinosaurs, blue whales, and of course big bears and elephants. I have all of Bart's films, and I don't know why, but I like just KNOWING that it's Bart. He's a kind of hero of mine. Bart rules!!!!

  • Brilliant ...wow!!! ...what a joy to watch

thanks for showing the world the true nature of the Grizzly...actually all bears ...their true nature is more the clown/comedian than most movie versions of a bear

  • The Bear was my first movie on VHS, manly tears were shed R.I.P. Bart ;_;

  • Thanks for sharing, this is very inspiring. Disregard those negativity comments, they don't even realize the true spirits between human and animals that those two can exist in a peaceful way of life. Again, thanks for sharing this story.

  • for such a huge animal to let you touch its wound, he must love and trust this guy so much. its pretty awesome.

  • parenting a bear. such a beautiful thing. makes you wanna love your life.

  • you couldnt just go with a dog could you now?

  • I think Dog Sues is the most happy man on planet...I wish I were him

  • ForTheGrizzly my msn in profile! The Legacy of Bart the Bear

  • What beautifull people displaying the ultimate acheivment of of gaining the trust and ultimately coexisting in a peacefull family like enviornment with a top predator.Thank you Doug Seus.

  • i cried during this! cannot believe he looked him in the eye and told him he wanted to go like that! animals are so much more intelligent than we think and that just proves it. what a beautiful bear!!

  • Gosh, seeing him greiving over Bart's last breath was really sad and moving. There was such a closeness, and I am sure it must have been almost near the level of losing his child. My heart goes out to them. Bart really had a great legacy, "starring" in many movies! Many thanks to Doug Suess! Thank you so very much for this video.

  • This is such a wonderful video. I only knew the film "The Bear" but I did not know about the details of one of the main actors in it. Very touching.

  • RIP bort

  • Poor Bart. Isn't 23 young for a bear?

  • @rjr0228 you dont understand what trust means do you

  • @ArchieBunker11 it's trust until someone gets hurt

  • RIP Bart! We will never forget you!

  • The only celebrity I would have loved to meet.

  • I remember seeing a story on animal planet about bart

  • amazing.. that's all i can say....

  • Those people have balls of steel. Hats off!

  • What a beautiful bear!

  • Having attended the Vital Ground 20th Anniversary this past weekend all I can say is amazing. An experience I will never forget, the work and relationship between the Seus family and the animals they train and live with is rare beyond words. Thank you for all you do to give back to the wondrous creatures who have given you so much..and more for recognizing it. Much respect to you all.

  • These people are heros

  • I love Doug and Lynne...what great people and what magnificent animals!

  • Úžasné, krásné a smutné - nejlepší zvířecí herec všech dob, Bart the bear:-)

  • I dont cry wery often...but bart does

  • Is Doug Seus alive?

  • I loved Bart in the Great Outdoors. He made such an awesome movie even better. R.I.P Bart! :( My deepest sympathy goes out to Doug and Lynne Seus as their love for him is as strong as it gets.

  • Bart is the largest kodiak I have seen so far, a big boy indeed. Seen a few male polar bears larger though....

  • ...not that I`m such a good person :-)

  • Doug and Lynne is people with a good heart. They clearly see their animals as family members.

    So do I.

  • Das ist teilweise so traurig, aber andererseits auch echt schön.

Gut, dass es solche Organisationen gibt! <3

Da kann man nur Respekt aussprechen und Doug alles alles Gute wünschen!

  • Bart was the best, I loved him. R.I.P Bart, I hope we will meet in the afterlife.

  • The luckiest man to ever live. Nobody knows bears like this guy.

  • Bart weighed 1600 pounds plus , but was Dougs best friend , anything is possible . Bart was dangerous if somebody threatened Doug , just like a dog.....a 1600 pound dog !!!!! What a protector... we miss you Bart

  • Bart was very big 0.0

  • This kind of interaction between human and animal always touches me! It's not natural that wild animals are with humans but when it turns out to be such beautiful contact it's breath taking! Thumbs Up!

  • HAHA 5.41!!!!! Bear, dog, the samething

  • what about youke i mean c mon atleast give the little guy some credit his mom died in that movie

  • I love Bart The Bear, he was and still is the best animal actor the world has ever seen :)

    RIP Bart

  • Great and beautiful friendship !

  • Always an inspiration!!

  • i miss bart

  • What a remarkable relationship between man & bear - seems to me both had a lot of fun together...So sad Bart is gone :(

  • 4:35 what a sense of trust!

  • that bears head is as big as his torso...wth man.

So why do people hike and camp in areas that are known to have wild grizzly bears? Why do ppl put themselves in that type of danger?

  • this is an art long lost... this guy is a master

in ancient european history there would be warriors with 'familiars'

In Russian culture the Bear is sacred and you cannot kill it.

  • I remember seeing a documentary about big Bart, Doug said it was like losing a son. Heh Doug needed the cubs just as much as they needed him. Barts will was thankfully passed on, so hell never be forgotten.

  • Barts fucking huge.

  • that's a big fucking bear

  • Wow... that is amazing. I wouldn't DARE try to do what he does. Good for him, though. UNLESS... something should go wrong. Then, bad. Bad for him. lol

  • This is amazing!! So sad that Bart died, anyone know how old he was?

  • he was 23

  • @niniaty 23

  • Whatever happen to Youk the bear, that was with togather bart in the movie "The bear" ??

  • you are thinking about the crazy guy Timothy Treadwell, The Grizzly man. He was killed by the bears he studied.

  • is that true ? Doug Seus waas killed by bear ? or is only a stupid HOAX?

  • Doug Seus is alive and well!

  • @mogaby13

you're thinking of timothy treadwell, aka the grizzly man

  • @samboni10 thank u pal. Long and marvelous life for u :D

  • Thank god for people like this they are a true inspiration

  • Bart was twice the actor lindsay lohan will ever be

  • lmao.haha..nice

  • Ha!

    Pro.

  • i miss u bart

  • Bart more than held his own sharing the screen with John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, Steven Seagal, Gregory Peck, Brad Pitt, Alec Baldwin, and even fellow man-eater Anthony Hopkins. Clearly a one of a kind bear, and a one of a kind trainer. RIP, Bart.

  • what is the song at the beginning?

  • Little Bart and Honey Bump as well as Tank were in Eddie Murphy's dr doolittle

  • Bart the Bear was the best bear actor ever. Even since I watched "Growing Up Grizzly" and seeing Timothy Treadwell's footage, I've been crazy about bears. Little Bart & Tank are my favorites. I would love to meet them sometime.

  • great trainer indeed :(

  • i just have a question, don't you have any fear training this huge wild animal doug, lol? how did u do it sir

  • kodiak bear are cuter than grizzly, such a huge and famous actor bear die, so sad

  • Bart stood 9 feet 6 inches and his young successor Little Bart the bear stands 8 feet 11inches.

  • Comment removed

  • Bart was amazing :) I always remember him from The Great Outdoors, The Bare ass Bear :D

    RIP Bart :(

  • my uncle doug :)

  • well he was a bear who lived with them since the birth

  • I miss him alot

  • Yes, he was a Kodiak grizzly. He weighted a 1,201 lbs before, but during his latter life, average about 950 lbs.

  • When did he die & how long did he live?

  • in 2000. he died 22 years old

  • no he weighted more! his weight was always around 1500 lbs before he got cancer.

  • Wasn't Bart a Kodiak? He looks more like a Kodiak than a Grizzly.

Anyway, the relationship Doug and Bart developed is really movingly. I can't even imagine what was in Doug's heart when Bart died. If there were more people like Doug, this world would surely be a better place for animals and everybody in it.

  • RIP Bart....one day I hope people realize the intelligence and emotion these creatures posses and quit slaughtering them senselessly.
