i love how peter schiff stands by what he says. He said they take half of his income in taxes and that women says: thats impossible. And he says: NO ITS NOT!!! LOL
Less government restrictions will create jobs to boost the economy!! Here's proof: We would hire two full time employees at our shop IMMEDIATELY if we could pay $5-6/Hr. We can't pay any more because after the high minimum wage; State, Federal, Social Security, and unemployment taxes; workers comp and liability insurance.. We'd rather just do the work ourselves!
@KnightoftheRepublic9 Why even bother to hire americans? They can sue you for free if they are in CA, then there's unemployment, insurance, workers comp, ss, etc... Living wages exist for a reason. And as much as we hate it so do the taxes. If you can't afford to hire people right now, then you aren't making enough.
@supremethunderclap The problem is inflation. Prices go up when the monetary supply is increased and business are hit with increasing costs. All that will happen when you raises wages is the things you buy get more expensive again. The inflation hits the different stages of production from the bottom first, meaning the poor, and works its way up. The real problem is we don't have a stable currency. @Jinmane go look at your history. Without any minimum wage, there is no incentive to pay them anything. Society is greedy and deeply corrupt. What you are suggesting simply won't work because the powers that be want free labor. What do you think we have a illegal immigration problem? Because they (the illegals of all races) are cheaper then us citizens.
@supremethunderclap Then why doesn't everyone get payed minimum wage? Why would a company pay $15/hr for a software engineer when they could pay $6/hr? It's because the price of labour is determined by supply and demand. Companies compete with one another for good workers.
nice disclaimer. just proves how difficult the system is to follow properly. And explain one circumstance where 2 private parties cant get together and form a job? Your disclaimer tries to show that peter is too dumb to follow the rules instead of asking why would we want to have these regulations.
@MrWompz so what regulations exactly does he want away with??????...coz he only stated the minimum wage laws(which I still think we should have)..and thats it...are we expected to believe that scrapping the minimum wage is going to help things??..I dont think so..I think big companies and exectutives would love to lower or scrap the minimum wage so that they can have a bigger christmas bonus with their fatcat friends.
@malechauvinistxy Well if you understand supply and demand then you would know why he wants minimum wage abbolished. And think about this if a company lowers its wages to much people won't work for them. There would be other businesses that pay higher, and people will go to them. Businesses that screw their employees and customers won't be around once people find alternatives. I The reason why these criminal companies exist is because the federal government propped them up with bailouts.
@MrWompz and if tax cuts create jobs(and there is no evidence that happens since Bush cut taxes and it made no difference)..then why dont they make sure tax cuts create jobs by creating a clause that if you have a business and take on more staff then you can get a tax cut? as opposed to exporting labour overseas or just not hiring at all and keeping the tax cut as a nice juicy bonus for executives.
@malechauvinistxy tax cuts give companies room in their budget to create jobs. If they cut your own taxes you'd have money to maybe hire a landscaper for your house. It doesn't mean you always make a job when given some extra spending room. Raising taxes ensures there is less money to be spent and the question is no longer -if- a job could be made, but simply that it -can't-. As for a tax credit for hiring more workers, you're putting the cart ebfore the horse.
@Pangora2 there is no evidence tax cuts create jobs...you cant just cut taxes for the wealthy and pray to the market that they might decide to create jobs.
and raising taxes on some people might mean others in a different tax band could become more competitive..therefore I dont think that taxation has any effect on the job numbers at all.
@malechauvinistxy Well, you can't freeze and economy in a control group and an experimental sample. We must use deductive reasoning.
Let us say that the tax rate is 95%. Would that affect human behaviour? Would people have more or less money to invest in capital equipment (tools, machines, factories, etc.) or less?
Is it better for individuals to direct money being guided by their own valuations-profit/loss test-price signals or is govt. to do those things with no feedback mechanisms?
It isn't what govt. taxes so much as it iswhat it consumes. If they cut taxes without cutting spending, it's worse. Because we must forego future consumption to pay back that debt and interest to fund the deficits.
It is best that govt. directs as little money as possible It lacks feedback mechanisms and engages in present consumption spending.
Govt. only has what it takes from us. It's like taking money from one pocekt and placing it in another with govt. destroying wealth in the transfer
@joepeeler34 what feedback mechanism would that be..here is the budget and where would you make the cuts? social security 20%..defence 20%..discretionary..19%..medicare/medicaid..23%..interest 6% and other 12%.
@malechauvinistxy Where would I make the cuts. I would cut all people who are wealth off the S.S. and Medicare rolls. The over-65 demographic is the wealthiest in the country. There are many well-off seniors.
This whole "paying in" nonsense is a pretence because those programs have always been welfare programs. Current workers pay for those programs. Many poor and middle-class pay will get money taken out this week with some of it going to seniors who are well-off.
@malechauvinistxy Discretionary? Do you know what that means? That's a target-rich environment.
I would eliminate the federal dept. of education, the Dept. of Energy, Dept. of Commerce, Dept. of Interior, and that's just for starters.
Take the D of Energy. It's justification was to make us less dependent. We produced 70% of our energy domestically when it was started. Now we produce a little over 40%.
The DOE is a pig trough for large energy companies.
@malechauvinistxy It only returns some of it. Most of it is wasted. Some interest factions and voting blocs get are net tax consumer as opposed to net taxpayers.
A dollar spent in the economy is not a dollar spent in the economy. The capital structure very much matters. Govt. engages in present consumption, i.e. the act of using up wealth.
It does not engage in capital investment (tools, machines, factories). You must first produce in order to consume.
@malechauvinistxy Why do you assume that the govt. should be involved in medical care at all? It didn't use to be. Before Medicare-Medicaid doctors and hospitals would routinely offer free or reduced payment care. All those programs did was TRANSFER money from middle-class taxpayers to middle-class health care professionals for care that was formerly offered at reduced cost or free.
Soon after these programs were created costs went up significantly wiping out any alleged benefits.
@malechauvinistxy Futher, there is a difference between defense spending and military spending. Much of the spending has very little to do with defense. Having bases all over the world makes us more prone to go to war. We subsidize the welfare states of many NATO countries because they rely on the U.S. military. This means that their cost of defense has been transferred to the U.S. to a large degree. There welfare states are still on the ropes even with subsidy in place.
If a businessman combines land, labor, and capital inefficiently he is punished with losses. That harmful social activity will soon stop for lack of capital. If he combines thoes inputs in such a way to produce a product (output) that meets consumer preferences, he is rewarded with profits. That beneficial social activity can continue.
@malechauvinistxy A high percentage of those profits are then reinvested.
Wealth creation starts with underconsumption (savings). That is where the credit for capital investment derives. That investment leads to productivity gains and an increased supply. It is out of that increased supply that real wage increases and purchasing power are derived.
It is only then that we can consume. Consumption is only a byproduct of wealth creation. Demand doesn't create its own supply.
@malechauvinistxy The other posts are what I mean by govt. destroying wealth.
It's easy to see what govt. spends money on. It can even create jobs, but how many productive jobs were never created or destroyed for every govt. job that is created.
It's called the brokedn window fallacy. Where would that capital/money have gone if not for govt. to use it for political ends. If a person doesn't understand economics, how would he even know that harm has been done? He wouldn't.
@malechauvinistxy If it is merely returned, then why send it at all? It's like giving a blood transfusion from the left arm to the right arm of the same body. Meanwhile there is still blood on the floor.
For some reason there are many people who think that people wouldn't find solutions that are far more effective than the force, fraud, and waste of govt.
Pensions? Why don't people save for their own retirement?
@malechauvinistxy Why would I transfer power to the state? It makes no sense. It's the equivalent of having enough money to start a business or make a purchase, but I decide to send the money to D.C. first, then at a later date I can petition the state for that money back later??? It's absurd.
And all those people working in the bureaucracy create no wealth. They create no products. The just take paper dollars and claim goods out of the economy without putting any in it.
things i don't need. I could easily take care of those myself. Except for the army of course. but i have no choice. the government takes the money from me regardless of whether or not i want those benefits. the benefits seem morally right, but they dont work. the money pot is empty. the other guy was right, the government TAKES from us. if you want benefits, sure go ahead and pay taxes. but I DONT WANT THEM. so dont tax me for them (except for defence)
@malechauvinistxy why do you keep flagging joe? The governent interferes with the markets and takes wealth away from the markets. And if the government does such a great job why is Social security in the red, Medicaid and medicare are failing. We spend way to much on defense spending. The problem with our economy is we don't save, and we don't produce anything. We have a $500 billion a year trade deficit with China. Instead of propping up these companies that are failing, let's let them fail.
@malechauvinistxy The reason why the Bush tax cuts don't work is because the government lowers revenue and increases spending. What do you think is a fare pecentage that wealthy should pay? I mean you can't honestly think all wealthy people are evil. It's like saying all skaters are bad people. Who do you trust to spend the money wisely businesses or the government. I mean the government can't balance their own budget. Show me where the government doesn't over spend.
Also - he has no plan to handle monopolies and keep the market healthy - you need to regulate the market to keep mega-mergers from happening that destroy healthy competition. And, history has not shown that the market can handle this situation - those monopolies have so much power that they keep the little guy from ever getting his foot in the door.
The best situation is a closely regulated free market that favors small businesses, and keeps competition strong.
He seems to ignore the fact that historically, the only times when our deficit has dropped and wages have increased across the board are when the rich have been taxed really heavily. Tax rates for the highest bracket varied from ~90% to ~40% from the end of World War II until the early 80's. During that time, the deficit and national debt dropped. As soon as Reagan showed up, he cut taxes dramatically (mainly for the rich) and our deficit started soaring.
@werepants Actually in another video he does adress that, and mentions that the government can break up monopolies. But the reason why Reagan ran defecits is the same reason why Bush did. The government cut taxes but didn't make up the difference by cutting spending.
@denjobi When one does not take the time to educate themselves, or are just close minded. They cant win the debate so they resort to name calling. If "clown" means, someone who actively fights for there nation and his countyman's freedom. Then yes i am one. If not, then you was wrong on that assesment as well!
I can only agree. We really need a national sales tax. And we need to basically get rid of minimum wage. Don't care....we've got to get rid of it. So that teenagers can get back to work.
She can't even give him an answer. class warfare artists at their finest. Liberal progressivism will ruin this country, sure as it ruined Europe, California, *sigh* the lis goes on and on.
Schiff is right again! The results of government education and propaganda is so evident in what comes out of these duped Keynesians mouths. Logic just flows quickly over their heads.
wealthy financiers =robber barons=corporate mergers= mass layoffs=trusts= deregulation=cruelty to workers =industrial oligarchy which dominates the United States=Using paid-off politicians as middlemen and have the American people themselves vote the middlemen into power.
Roosevelt had reason to be concerned. The wealthy corporate elite were indeed plotting against Obama.
THE US WILL ONLY CRASH IF THESE ROBBER BARONS DECIDE TO LET IT CRASH
@spat846 It staggers me that in 2011 we have someone with your level of understanding. This is not a compliment.
Here is a clue for you: Banks and Businesses have ZERO POWER to control ANYTHING unless government gives them that power. If Wal Mart or BofA tries to make you do anything you didn't sign your name to I suggest you call the police.
@medlock01 :Gov't regulators are suppose to act like the referees in a sports game and make sure there is fair competition and every 1 plays by the rules. But it's not just our referees. Everybody including the linesmen are bought. Senators/congressmen can't wait to quit and cash in on lobbyist money. How about BOA predatory lending practices ruining low income familes .Get them to define predatory lending . however Schiff wants no referees through deregulation just when everyones crying foul.
Sorry but if you believe the financial sectors problem is not enough regulation, you are insane. Outside of the energy sector it is the most regulated industry in the US. Lobbyist money is only useful if the Congressmen are picking the winners and losers. They SHOULD NOT BE.
No such thing as predatory lending. If you choose to sign the paper then it is your decision to live with. The fact that Fannie and Freddie would buy underwater loans is the real issue.
@bigchiefbc One more thing. The pentagon was hit by a missile. Not a plane. Look at ANY of the pics that were taken after the impact. There is absolutely NO evidence of a plane wreckage.
@bigchiefbc Are you kidding me?? Do you really think that 19 guys with box cutters knocked those 3 buildings down? Do you really believe the 911 commission? Do you really think that building 7 fell down due to fire? Do you really believe that a plane hit the pentagon? Do a little research about what really happened that day. You will become a truther as well.
The pentagon is the most militarily important site in the fucking world. A plane would not hit it unless they wanted it to. PERIOD
In the free marked, education is ( or close to ) free. I will give one example,, when Apple made AppStore available for developers,, they wanted people to learn their programming language. By this fact they made many, many tools and resources available free on the internet.
And did Bill Gates, Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckenberg have any formal education... No they all dropped out from their education. Yes, education might be good,, but not government subsidized education or guaranteed student loans.
What is more humanitarian: A few twits who've mostly never worked in the real world deciding how much money to steal from some and give to those who will vote for them, or someone like Peter who wants to help everyone lift themselves up in whatever manner they choose? I'm so sick of gov't and marxists acting like they hold the monopoly on piety.
mr. cummings makes the comment "....spend to educate....so our children can take over this world...." subtle slip up of his ideologies....another demagogue!
Notice how he does not read notes! because he knows his stuff! i can do this with the bible no notes needed my point is i hope they listen to him he speaks the truth even if it hurts us all, the system needs help and it needs help now!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
This guy is a real moron. He paid $15,000 in fines and $500,000 on lawyers. If he had a brain, he would hire attorney, or a law firm to consult him before he started to grow his business. If we hadn't most corruptive government those numbers would be reversed - $500,000 would go to government, and $15,000 to lawyers. That would make our government profitable as it should be always. Instead, a huge portion of $500,000 went into government official pocket.
Peter Schiff should be the next Chairperson of the Federal Reserve with a new mission: reverse the policies of the past two decades while phasing out the concept of a US central bank.
Mr.Schiff and others such as Ron Paul, Mark Faber etc fail to understand is that irrespective of political party Congress has one view, if we are not part of the solution there is no solution and if there is no solution than there is no problem. Next!
who is this black huy speaking at 15:10 he sounds like he is grasping this at a 8th grade level, then he goes back to Dr. Boushey for advice who gives more flawed logic....borrow and pay it back. "America is remains one of the richest countries on the planet" LOL LOL LOL....does she not know we are 15 Trillion in the RED
PETITION TO HAVE EXECUTIVE ORDER 11110 REENACTED. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY WE WILL REGAIN OUR FREEDOM AND PRESERVE THE FRUITS OF OUR LABOR. WRITE YOUR CONGRESSMAN...DO WHAT YOU CAN TO MAKE IT A KEY TOPIC OF THE 2012 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION. GOD BLESS JFK HE DID EVERYTHING HE COULD TO TAKE BACK THIS COUNTRY. NO PRESIDENT SINCE THEN HAS HAD THE COURAGE TO TRY.
This is al a waste of time....the politicians dont give a fuck. They have a plan....to destroy the USA. Thats why they let 30 millions illegal alien morons into the US.
Peter Schiff on wages. Let them eat cake: ." [The minimum wage] keeps people poor. [It] does is says that if a person that has very little skills, and generally they're young or they're poor, you can't hire them unless they can produce $7.25 worth of value, but it's not just that. It also has to compensate you for all the mandatory benefits and taxes ...And people that have no skills, it's not just worth it to hire them -- maybe $3 or $4 an hour, if that's what they're worth".
they are government employees , why do you think they are working for the government ???? What do you think they are going to do , they are going to do what ever they can to keep them.
"It is well enough that people of the nation do not understand our banking and monetary system, for if they did, I believe there would be a revolution before tomorrow morning."
20 year olds running the country , what are they ex goldman sachs realatives...punish the people who creat the jobs...yes the corporations... ! We are so screwed because of this..
Damn Americans were rich back then when Henry Ford paid his workers 2500$ a week... What happened? No minimum wage,, No Unions,,, what? No Payroll tax,, No Federal Income tax... Stop it,, Stop this nonsense...
"America is one of the richest countries on the planet." Really? How does a $14 trillion debt and 80 trillion+ in liabilities make you rich Dr. Bousey?
They should take Peter's opening statement, put it on an Ipod, loop it over and over and over again for hours and hours.. Then take that, and ducttape the earbuds to Obama's head.
here's a question. is there an easy way to calculate the total number of jobs created during the obama administration? i'm not talking about the idea of digging a hole just to fill it back up again, i'm talking REAL jobs. i'm not talking about vacancies due to retirements or people getting fired before being eligible for pension.. i'm talking about a total number of NEW jobs created by the administration. i'd love to find out the ratio of money spent to job creation. 20 million per job? curious.
This guy is spitting more half truths and logical sounding fallacies than all of congress combined. If you study economics and have to explain what made the great depression so long and deep, it would be just what this Shiff is suggesting we should do.........
@AECONGUY you are a fucking idiot, he is saying there is too much regulation, we need less of it... only keep the regulations for the banks since they are idiots like you who can't deal with the money they have which got us in this big mess.
Frankly, your friend Ben at the Fed is not doing so hot with all his "academic" stuff to counter the great recession, which is exactly opposite to what Schiff is saying... We are still in the depression, if you think otherwise, you are a god damn idiot.
@AECONGUY Can you mention a topic specifically so we can prove you wrong? Peter Schiff has been correct since 2002. Search for his Southland Today interview.
@Only1Transporter Just remember your position on all this as your kind of fallacious economic thinking and policy comes to full fruition over the coming years. Your stimulus spending ideas are in power. They are the order of the day. Not just in 2009 - 2011, but for the last 98 years, since the founding of the Fed. So, don't deny that the coming complete collapse was your doing when if arrives. Idiot.
@derek2010x What the hell are you talking about troll? 'Your stimulus spending ideas are in power.'????? Did you misclick or do you just pick random people to cause drama?
@AECONGUY Peter Schiff is stating the whole truth as a good economist. The bimbo you support is spitting the half truths. Just remember your position on all this as your kind of fallacious economic thinking and policy comes to full fruition over the coming years. Your stimulus spending ideas are in power. Not just in 2009 - 2011, but for the last 98 years, since the founding of the Fed. So, don't deny that the coming complete collapse was your doing when if arrives in earnest.
It's like they're speaking two different languages. They don't understand facts and reality because their worlds are nothing more than over-philosophized garbage. Just listen to the vapid garbage that comes out of Mr. Cummings' mouth. What a simpleton and the bitch to Schiff's right is an academic. nuff sed.
In MY opinion.. Mr. Schiff is the man when it comes to economic discussion. Thank you Mr. Schiff, and please continue doing what you do. People are listening and learning, and we need you to keep it going.
does anyone notice he is not reading this off a peace of paper? this guy really understand what he is talking about. His speech is so structured and easily understood.
No... he is right on education, except he didn't tell the whole story like he usually does.. We spent way too much on education because of goverment guaranteed loans.. The schools know that they can jack up tution costs as much as they want because the goverment will ALWAYS guarantee the loans.. Why do you think the schools love the liberal, big goverment economist?? cause they like the status quo where the education establishment is ripping off the students..

If you find his explanantions and reason in error, then systematically refute them. Don't just call names.
For instance, do you think banks can create credit out of nothing or does credit have to come from savings?
Do you think the Fed can centrally plan interest rates to good effect?
What is the source of credit bubbles?
Please explain.

Pangora2 4 months ago
@Pangora2 there is no evidence tax cuts create jobs...you cant just cut taxes for the wealthy and pray to the market that they might decide to create jobs.
and raising taxes on some people might mean others in a different tax band could become more competitive..therefore I dont think that taxation has any effect on the job numbers at all.
malechauvinistxy 4 months ago
@malechauvinistxy Well, you can't freeze and economy in a control group and an experimental sample. We must use deductive reasoning.
Let us say that the tax rate is 95%. Would that affect human behaviour? Would people have more or less money to invest in capital equipment (tools, machines, factories, etc.) or less?
Is it better for individuals to direct money being guided by their own valuations-profit/loss test-price signals or is govt. to do those things with no feedback mechanisms?
joepeeler34 4 months ago
It isn't what govt. taxes so much as it iswhat it consumes. If they cut taxes without cutting spending, it's worse. Because we must forego future consumption to pay back that debt and interest to fund the deficits.
It is best that govt. directs as little money as possible It lacks feedback mechanisms and engages in present consumption spending.
Govt. only has what it takes from us. It's like taking money from one pocekt and placing it in another with govt. destroying wealth in the transfer
joepeeler34 4 months ago
@joepeeler34 what feedback mechanism would that be..here is the budget and where would you make the cuts? social security 20%..defence 20%..discretionary..19%..medicare/medicaid..23%..interest 6% and other 12%.
where would you make the cuts?? asshole

Only some are indigent.

@joepeeler34 "Govt. only has what it takes from us."
you know that government does not keep the money?? right?..ie..they do not steal it.
the money (all of it) returns to the taxpayers in the form of pensions, benefits, education, defence, medical care.
things we will all need at some point in our lives.

@malechauvinistxy "Feedback mechanisms:" Profit/loss test/consumer test.

MrWompz 3 months ago
@malechauvinistxy Well if you understand supply and demand then you would know why he wants minimum wage abbolished. And think about this if a company lowers its wages to much people won't work for them. There would be other businesses that pay higher, and people will go to them. Businesses that screw their employees and customers won't be around once people find alternatives. I The reason why these criminal companies exist is because the federal government propped them up with bailouts.
MrWompz 3 months ago
@malechauvinistxy The reason why the Bush tax cuts don't work is because the government lowers revenue and increases spending. What do you think is a fare pecentage that wealthy should pay? I mean you can't honestly think all wealthy people are evil. It's like saying all skaters are bad people. Who do you trust to spend the money wisely businesses or the government. I mean the government can't balance their own budget. Show me where the government doesn't over spend.
MrWompz 3 months ago
Also - he has no plan to handle monopolies and keep the market healthy - you need to regulate the market to keep mega-mergers from happening that destroy healthy competition. And, history has not shown that the market can handle this situation - those monopolies have so much power that they keep the little guy from ever getting his foot in the door.
The best situation is a closely regulated free market that favors small businesses, and keeps competition strong.
werepants 4 months ago
He seems to ignore the fact that historically, the only times when our deficit has dropped and wages have increased across the board are when the rich have been taxed really heavily. Tax rates for the highest bracket varied from ~90% to ~40% from the end of World War II until the early 80's. During that time, the deficit and national debt dropped. As soon as Reagan showed up, he cut taxes dramatically (mainly for the rich) and our deficit started soaring.
werepants 4 months ago
@werepants Actually in another video he does adress that, and mentions that the government can break up monopolies. But the reason why Reagan ran defecits is the same reason why Bush did. The government cut taxes but didn't make up the difference by cutting spending.

How about BOA predatory lending practices ruining low income familes .Get them to define predatory lending . however Schiff wants no referees through deregulation just when everyones crying foul.
spat846 4 months ago

Sorry but if you believe the financial sectors problem is not enough regulation, you are insane. Outside of the energy sector it is the most regulated industry in the US. Lobbyist money is only useful if the Congressmen are picking the winners and losers. They SHOULD NOT BE.
No such thing as predatory lending. If you choose to sign the paper then it is your decision to live with. The fact that Fannie and Freddie would buy underwater loans is the real issue.

It also has to compensate you for all the mandatory benefits and taxes ...And people that have no skills, it's not just worth it to hire them -- maybe $3 or $4 an hour, if that's what they're worth".

The schools know that they can jack up tution costs as much as they want because the goverment will ALWAYS guarantee the loans.. Why do you think the schools love the liberal, big goverment economist?? cause they like the status quo where the education establishment is ripping off the students..

Interest rates are near zero. The government should be borrowing all it can. The problem is lack of growth

Why is it that in order to get a PhD in economics, you have to advocate principles that any freshman should be able to debunk?

Schiff Rocks!!!! That lady lives in a bubble. Good job Peter. If Ron Paul wins Peter Schiff would make a great secretary of the Treasury.

Damn. Great job "Mr. Schiff". I am very impressed. What was on that note you passed to Dr. Rikki Lake?

It was his tax info. He wanted to show her that he did in fact pay almost 50% of his income in taxes. Love the rikcy lake observation.
