Ha I had the same HP, the same crap graphics card from NVidea but I also had a busted battery which was under extended warranty but wasn't replaced by customer care because my gfx card was busted (go figure :s). I even had to pay €20 to get an answer to an email! (of course I didn't pay those fucktards)
@HenkGoesBad They charged me for new printer drivers once when i upgraded from 98 to 2000. They got their 5 bucks but it wasn't worth it for them in the long run as i don't do business with assholes who like to nickel and dime you to death.
If I didn't need mine for school I would do the same. After about 6 months the motherboard started heating up and melted some of the plastic on mine. It has started to slow down significantly. NO ONE EVER EVER BUY AN HP COMPUTER THEY ARE THE WORST!!!!
@Person62 F'n HP theyb were talking about dropping their PC line PLEASE DROP IT! Let others take care of providing PC's to consumers. HP is thinking short term huge margins and bailing when it gets less than that. I guess they're seeing another year of consumer rape via all these people who think tablets are worth something. Tablets need another year to mature anyway.......
had problem with my desktop they tried to charge me $1,500 to fix it. After looking on YouTube i found the problem was some microchip that overheats. i fixed it myself for around $10.
i show this video to all my customers that try to bring in a dv to be fixed. Thanks for the reinforcement on this one. fucking awesome break too that shit was genius. the driver is an artist.
@austinmk Thank you sir. Glad to help out. The next laptop that pisses me off will get put under the back wheel of my 10 second turbine powered dodge van. I've done burnouts over 600 feet with the van. I'm getting excited just thinking about it.

HAHA so true!!!! dv9000 suuuuuuuuuucks. I work at a computer store and i would PRAY to get a dv9000 with a broken mobo or GPU, meaning they would just throw the pc away cuz repairs cost more than a new laptop.. i'd take the screens and put them on ebay for a cool 50$, cuz their pieces of shit and break all the time too :D
every last laptop(pc and mac) that used nvidias m8600 was shitty, it was the chip fault, they shipped defective from nvidia and they knew about it but somehow, to this day they, claim there was NOTHING WRONG with those chips...
It's true they suck and their idea of customer support enrages me, some indian bimbo had the nerve to mock me on the phone and she had no idea what she was talking about. I had my laptop repaired by them 2 times before the warranty went out, and it came back with severe cosmetic damage and screws missing AND THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME 400 BUCKS FOR THE DAMAGE THEY DID TO MY COMPUTER!!! I will never buy anything from this shit company as long as I live.
I feel you pal, I got exactly same laptop when I bought it it was 1600 bucks, after 1 year it started to glitch n ended up in the garbage, 3 of my friends got it 2 n they all throw them on the garbage.
I had a HP desktop PC and it was a bucket of rocks so to speak. Paid about £300 for it new and it only lasted me about 18 months before the thing decided to keal over on me right when I was in the middle of Flight Sim. The culprit was a couple of blown capacitors on the motherboard with some scorching marks on the PCB to match! Fujitsu and Siemens are good, never had a problem with their PC's up to yet.
@smalltugz Good luck. All HP isn't bad, my 932 printer is awesome but now no good as there are no w7 64 bit drivers that work properly. they kill their laptops with unreliable designs, they kill their printers by not updating drivers.
@ElfysEradication I have an MSI GX620 right now. It runs sweet and although I never had a problem with it, it can easily be taken apart and repaired. The graphics is on a seperate board so if it goes bad you don't have to change the whole motherboard. Upgrading it is easy I upgraded the wifi module already.
Don't get me started with HP products, cheap junk , they use lower quality parts, that fail with in a year or two. The problem is mainstream consumers look at how good the product looks like glossy finish, instead of built quality and specs.
I learned my lesson and I'm going to sell it soon before it fails and get a macbook because I'm tired of HP crap and I don't think I want to get another Windows laptop (I've been a loyal costumer of both Microsoft and HP for the past 12 years) Funny enough my 6 year old HP desktop works fine and hasn't failed in that time :/ so I'm guessing it's the laptops that suck.
My first HP laptop from 04' broke down 30 days before the costly extended warranty ran out, it was fixed then it broke again 2 months later, thankfully the people at compusa where nice enough and sent it again...it broke down 2 weeks later and I finally gave up. So what do I do? I buy a Compaq (HP) and its performance absolutely sucked 6 months in...7 months later my wireless fails so I got a wifi dongle and eventually got a top of the line HP and a year after owning it it wipes my hd clean >.>
great video. i bought mine 3 years ago and had it in repairs at least 8 times in 3 years. once i took it in for fixing then after 1 months or so i picked it up turned it on at home and they didn't even fix the problem. took it back then got it back another months or so later. lucky i purchased 2 years extra extended warranty. if you buy a HP laptop get extended warranty it will be worth it trust me.
I have the same computer and it has been sent in 3 times for a fried mother board. Glad I got the extended warranty on it. When it breaks again the store I got it from will give me a new (different make) computer. DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER!!! THEY ARE PURE SHIT!
I am having the same stupid laptop here in Malaysia and it sucks! Sent in to service center twice already! And now the stupid screen goes blank.... Two of my sister are having HP laptops as well and they have both experience hardware defect! Am totally not going to buy HP products in the next 10 years until they improve on their customers care and product quality!

You also got a message from nvidiasettlement dt com??? :O
I got a hard copy of that letter from traditional mail! :D
However, I disassembled the dv6000 laptop and used the lcd screen for my Compaq laptop and the worst part is that some major parts of the dv6000 laptop is missing, which made me miss the laptop claim period.

@Kiribayashi Actually, this was a very common issue for many DV series. The problem was involving the nvidia video card and the solder used to keep it on the motherboard. There's actually a class action lawsuit going to court in december regarding the issue.
my laptop is not even 2 fucking years old and the screen is already fucked up, i fucking hate HP they didn't repaired it 1 month before my guarantee ended..
hell yeah!!! u guys are my heros!!! i've been wanting to do or see something like that cause i hate mine with a passion, but i cant do it cause i wont be able to get another laptop in a while. nvidia sucks, the laptop itself is built with cheap materials, the power cord suck, the battery is lame, the quick play thing is annoying i could go on and on but i dont have all day..........

Once I sent it back because of a puff of smoke that came out the back. I had the cord plugged into the wall. Its a good thing nothing caught on fire. I hate HP so much. I know. Unfortunately, I am using this same laptop now. It always needs to be charged and is slow. Probably it's Windows Vista fault as I'm still using it.
aw man, how this would relieve my pain of my HP laptop if i could do this. Its having this "plugged in, not charging" shit,(of course, blaming Vista). Hp said to buy a new fucking battery(FUCK THEM). i can watch this all day!
I have a HP pavilion dv9000 to and it sucks balls. I had to do a system restore FOUR times already and i hate this damn thing. On top of that, my Cd/DVD drive just shit the bed.
this is why oem machines suck if you want a laptop buy asus or msi desktop learn how to custom build hp acer dell compaq emachines sony toshiba all suck
Just because your laptop had issues means all of HP needs to rot in hell? Get a life. Judging by the idiocy of your actions in this video, I can understand why nobody from tech support wanted to put up with your bullshit. I own a DV9040us and it's been running perfect for 3+ years.
@nickmooreimages HP SUCKS You just got lucky buddy. 95% of these designs are faulty. Don't bother us pissed of HP customers. and don't rub it in. Just because yours works fine doesn't mean it's gonna stay that way
Mine stopped working also and they (HP) want to pay to get it fix by them and the started with bad parts to begin with. Yeah I want to run mine over also.... Is there a class action suit against them?
@StanDavis68 I'm in the same boat as u buddy!! My laptop is broken (the Motherboard) is going bad, and it all began when I bought the computer!! Now they want me to pay as well!
nVidia should first recall all the Laptop GPU they have manufactured between 2004-2008 and refund all those people who bought them. After they officially admitted defects in packaging resulting in overheating and malfunctioning nVidia did absolutely nothing for consumers but they announced the shareholders that $200 mil were set aside for claims and warranties...and thats all.
I already joined the Class Action Lawsuit at hxxp://cases.milberg.com/nvidia/#usermessage17a ...replace xx with tt.

LOL. Same huge problems with HP 9000 series notebook. HP computers are CRAP. The way HP corp treats customers is even worse. Being in the media industry I have the ability to heap tons of bad PR on HP in a very public way which I fully intend to do.
Ah yes, the gool ol HP Pavillion series. It looks like you are getting better use out of it than you normally would. This way you wont have to deal with: overheating, dead motherboards, black screens, broken lid hinges and a host of other problems these shitty craptops have.
Thanks for the video, I needed to watch one of these damn things get annihilated. I have had to fix way to many of these things.
I bought this piece of shit a year ago and have had endless problems. Just recently the battery was losing capacity fast, and yesterday the wireless card crapped out! That's not even half of the problems!
FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK HEWLETT PACKARD!!! HP STANDS FOR "HORRIBLE PROBLEMS"!!!!
I commented earlier saying it was fixable, not true. It will just break again not long after. I sent the computer to HP, waited two months, they charged me $300 but when got it back THEY DIDNT EVEN TOUCH IT.
Seriously, if your considering buying anything HP, the only reason to is for an awesome "Smashing Computer" video on youtube.
@krugtech HAHA! Well, i gues this review changed my mind about the HP Pavilion Dv9000, im know guessing on getting a Dell Studio XPS 1640! Never thought the hp pavilion would have many problems, which i have read. This is why i have been saving up so much money, but oh well.
dude, i have seen lots of hp laptops have heat problem causing grapic chip failure and at the end who system failure! and boot failure!, forget about hps, buy dell, i got dell laptop and pc over 5 years now and its really stable up to now.
@thiefelent I'm glad you enjoyed it. Some good came from that POS laptop after all. Someone is donating another one, I'll try to make it's destruction a little more spectacular.
@eddiebruv Do not even think about buying a HP Laptop, same with Compag, they are pieces of shit, and they never honored the brand, they just gain time until the warranty expires, then they will charge the full cost of the bad design.
lol yea i know....I have the same laptop with the same problems and guess what... it IS vista...Installed xp and works great! Its faster in every department...Even made a noticeable improvement on the quality i could run games at...I feel bad for these guys. :(
If anyone else has an HP laptop that needs this kind of repair, send it to me and I'll do a burnout on it with my turbine powered mini van. It will be epic. See my other videos for a look at the van
Very powerful video. Though it was wasted, it sends a strong message to HP that people are tired of their shitty products and their stone-walling tech support. They install a faulty NVIDIA graphics chip (NVIDIA admits that it is faulty) but HP refuses to make good and replace them. I am getting ready to sue them in small claims court to get my money back!
Almost everything I've owned under the HP/Compaq brand broke because of their shitty quality.
-HP DV2000 (broke- shitty nvidia GPU)
-HP TX1000 (I went through three of them, all three broke)
-HP XT125 (broke)
-HP iPaq 910c (broke)
-HP a1600n (broke)
The list goes on, there are too many things to name.
I have stopped using all HP products. I've gone on to use Dell and I have not had any hardware problems since. HP builds pieces of shit that break before you can even turn them on.
haha fuck HP computers they make em so cheap putting incompatable hardware in them lol my fuckin wireless internal speakers and disc drive went out in mine in about 2 months after the 1 year warranty what a shocker lol and the power button dont work i gotta fuck with it and hit the bottom of it to get it to turn on never buy a hP
@nimjoo How is it solvable? Got a link? Sure, I could have sold some parts, but I wanted to send HP and anyone considering them a message and it was worth it to me. Customer service has gone to hell and I'm not putting up with it.
There are ways to fix this problem like resoldering the graphics chip, but that doesn't always work (if the GPU itself is damaged, just resoldering won't work) and the problem can remanifest later. It's much more worthwhile to get a new laptop that will be of higher quality and more reliable, i.e. from a brand other than HP.
But I actually found out how to fix the shitty graphics card/motherboard for the dv9000, and you can do it yourself but it would seem as if you already took care of it!
got mine in late early 07' motherboard fried 3 months after getting it, hp replaced it. next the hinge malfunctioned then the battery, now im having unprompted safemode booting issues.
Sorry you had really bad luck with yours. :( But I've had a dv6640us hp laptop for 2 yrs now, and no problems with it. It's got vista sp2 (heavily tweaked coz bkgd apps suck CPU cycles and RAM, and no 3d aero desktop), and I even have a couple of Linux distros on it.
Yeah, the dv9000 is evil indeed... always gets a lot of bad queries in their support firums.
ANOTHER REASON WHY HP SUCKS! I installed windows 7 and everyone but HP managed to have updated drivers for their products. Now I'm going to have to execute a perfectly fine working printer. Video to follow.
I sent mine out when it stopped working, (maryland to california) and got it back in 5 days havent had a problem since then it is a nice laptop but there are some speaker problems , that is weird though , they said you werent covered ? they must have lied i hate service over the phone I cant even understand what they say
If there was any way to get HP to cover it under warranty I would have sent it out. I tried everything from being really nice to damn near water boarding the assholes. Every option they gave me had a high price so I decided to execute the thing. You were lucky, for every person who got help, 1000's got screwed.
Ha I had the same HP, the same crap graphics card from NVidea but I also had a busted battery which was under extended warranty but wasn't replaced by customer care because my gfx card was busted (go figure :s). Once I sent it back because of a puff of smoke that came out the back. I had the cord plugged into the wall. Its a good thing nothing caught on fire. But I know what you mean. I hate HP so much. There support people are no help. They keep telling me I'm not under warranty. Why should I pay for something I didnt break. This should have been fixed.
Tinkerbabe1806 1 year ago

Just because your laptop had issues means all of HP needs to rot in hell? Get a life. Judging by the idiocy of your actions in this video, I can understand why nobody from tech support wanted to put up with your bullshit. I own a DV9040us and it's been running perfect for 3+ years.

nVidia should first recall all the Laptop GPU they have manufactured between 2004-2008 and refund all those people who bought them.

I haven't shopped for a computer in many years. I've never had a HP computer but, I remember when HP peripherals were the best.
I guess the quality and engineering costs had to be cut so the CEO and his cronies got their expected salary and bonuses.
InfiniteMushroom 1 year ago
I commented earlier saying it was fixable, not true. It will just break again not long after. I sent the computer to HP, waited two months, they charged me $300 but when got it back THEY DIDNT EVEN TOUCH IT.
Seriously, if your considering buying anything HP, the only reason to is for an awesome "Smashing Computer" video on youtube.

Hp does have the highest rate in computer malfunction. It is also a dieing company, they had to merge with compaq to stay alive.

@eddiebruv Do not even think about buying a HP Laptop, same with Compag, they are pieces of shit, and they never honored the brand, they just gain time until the warranty expires, then they will charge the full cost of the bad design.

Very powerful video. Though it was wasted, it sends a strong message to HP that people are tired of their shitty products and their stone-walling tech support. They install a faulty NVIDIA graphics chip (NVIDIA admits that it is faulty) but HP refuses to make good and replace them. I am getting ready to sue them in small claims court to get my money back!
zookat 2 years ago
@zookat Let us know how you make out. Bring this video with you as circumstantial evidence.
krugtech 2 years ago
Almost everything I've owned under the HP/Compaq brand broke because of their shitty quality.
-HP DV2000 (broke- shitty nvidia GPU)
-HP TX1000 (I went through three of them, all three broke)
-HP XT125 (broke)
-HP iPaq 910c (broke)
-HP a1600n (broke)
The list goes on, there are too many things to name.
I have stopped using all HP products. I've gone on to use Dell and I have not had any hardware problems since. HP builds pieces of shit that break before you can even turn them on.

true waste for a well-documented solvable problem, at least could have sold it for parts, LCD alone worth $100
nimjoo 2 years ago
@nimjoo How is it solvable? Got a link? Sure, I could have sold some parts, but I wanted to send HP and anyone considering them a message and it was worth it to me. Customer service has gone to hell and I'm not putting up with it.
krugtech 2 years ago
There are ways to fix this problem like resoldering the graphics chip, but that doesn't always work (if the GPU itself is damaged, just resoldering won't work) and the problem can remanifest later. It's much more worthwhile to get a new laptop that will be of higher quality and more reliable, i.e. from a brand other than HP.
nitrous9200 2 years ago

lexyota 2 years ago
Sorry you had really bad luck with yours. :( But I've had a dv6640us hp laptop for 2 yrs now, and no problems with it. It's got vista sp2 (heavily tweaked coz bkgd apps suck CPU cycles and RAM, and no 3d aero desktop), and I even have a couple of Linux distros on it.
Yeah, the dv9000 is evil indeed... always gets a lot of bad queries in their support firums.
