Enjoyed the video. Editing and pacing is good. Song doesn't quite work, though. Eowyn of the film has little impact compared to Eowyn of the book, due to the times in which they were released. When Tolkein wrote her it was unheard of for a Heroine to be an action hero. In these modern days of Ripley and Buffy it is expected. People didn't see the "no man" coming in the books, at the time.

Don't exactly agree with the idea that a heroine wasn't an "action hero". Eowyn comes from a Viking or Celtic culture: women fought.

She calls herself not the princess, but "shieldmaiden of Rohan". In other words,

Eowyn felt she was just as liable to defend Rohan as Theoden and Eomer were. It was not

a point she argued with them: she just acted.

Theoden is surprised, but not shocked to see her on the battlefield: Eomer is appalled and

grief stricken to find her apparently dead.

Good points, well argued, but you are misunderstanding what I wrote. Film Eowyn is lesser than book Eowyn because today's audience is more open to the idea of a woman fighting, so is not as scandalised, or surprised. In the decade/society Tolkien wrote it, it was unheard of for a female character to be anything more than a love interest or damsel in distress so Eowyn's attitude and actions hit the readers with substantially more impact BECAUSE she is a defender rather than passive.

In Tolkien's decade/society, it was expected that Eowyn be no more than a love interest or damsel in distress. Tolkien was a professor of history/langage, and he knew better. Rohan

was modelled on medieval Viking and/or Celtic

culture. In those cultures, women of rank fought, if they had to.

Eowyn is not your pampered princess: she goes from being a cooped up sweetheart in Part II to action babe in Part III: she feels she is just as obligated to fight as her brother Eomer, especially when Aragorn apparently deserts.

He tells her that the ppl of Rohan(those left behind from the battle) & Edoras are in her charge & her responsibility- so yes, Theoden did leave her in charge of Rohan if they all died in battle- she would have taken over & defended Edoras to the death. Since Eomer survived the battles & is older, he becomes king. Technically you are correct.
