It felt and sounded different. Unlike NDP where it sounded reflective or like a celebration of achievement. This sounded more like a cry out for something. Against injustice? or maybe of promises in the pledge that have not been kept?

There were no fireworks and no fancy performance. All you see were 30,000 patriotic Singaporeans filled with love for the country, reciting the pledge that rocked that nation on 5 May 2011.

This pledge, this video, and this day will go down in history. Whenever I feel any less Singaporean, I know I can always watch this video and remember this day.

I last recited the pledge 9 years ago as a secondary school student. Refused to do it even during parades in NS, but tonight, 12000km away from home, i recited it for the first time in these 9 years in my room while watching this video. For once i felt a sense of pride and meaning reciting it. It was a sensation i had never ever felt on any morning for my entire period of ten years of education as a student. Go LTK!! Was surprised that the people were of all mix, young people, people coming from work, driving, you see BW, Merc, etc. Thought expecting to see old uncles, was surprised. Roads were all jammed, and nobody horned. It was an eerie silence, except the speakers and cheers.
