I'm personally a huge fan of Europe, not that big a fan of the EU. But like I said, I hold out hope for a solid, good, progressive, peaceful EU to rival America's power as an influence for good, rather than a rising, say, China (who isn't all bad at all, but i'm not a fan of communism).

I disagree. The EU combined has a GDP about total of the United States. So it takes one continent to equal the US GDP.

Also, the US spends more on defense than the EU combined. 2nd place would be the EU, then China.

The thing the EU has, military wise, is the number of troops they have is far greater than the US troops. Same with China.

I've said for a long time, I greatly hope that the EU rises to become a united superpower. How nice it would be for America to not be the only superpower.

About the subject if they are democ. elected; That depends upon how one views our current democracy. Is it a "true" democracy? At what level of consiousness is the voters actually appointing their representatives (if they are actually voting out of lets say - tradition or if they vote out of a enlightened rational decision).
