  • what lap steel is that?

  • @LedZeppZoSo That's a Harley Benton Slider, a rebranding of the Slider by ABM done by the german music store Thomann.

  • Hey , you are the master !

    Very very cool

    Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • Gilmour plays this in open Em tuning.... I know for a fact.. He told me :-)

  • Man, that was a masterpiece ;)

  • so can you play this on a normal guitar?

  • @danthecoolman980 If you have a slide/bottleneck and your stings are not too low I don't see why not. Surely it would not be optimal, but possible sure.

  • @danthecoolman980 If you watch the dvd from pompe' david is sitting on the ground using a slide on the normal fender strat when he plays this song.

  • Awesome job !! Is the guitar in normal tuning ? Could you do some more pink floyd stuff ? I would be happy to see you do the solo of another brick in the wall :)

  • @youderdun It is tuned in dropped D, otherwise the chordparts would not be playable ;) Perhaps there will be an update in the near future, but I cannot promise.

  • Great cover! Did you learn all by ear? or did you use some tabs? or do you have one of yourself?

  • @Nickjuuh1989 Thank you. I was unable to find tabs back then, so I learned it purely by ear, yep :)

  • Great cover! Would be cool to see you do a cover of the Pulse Live version too :)

  • Great!

  • Great job man!!!

  • nice cover .

  • man that's great! you put me right in there like i was listening to the cd. keep posting.

  • great cover of a perfect song! May I just ask what brand and model is your lap steel guitar? Thanks!

  • @RoninCZ Hi mate, That is a ebm slider from the german musicstore Thomann.

  • Brilliant cover!! Just wondered if you can do the Delicate Sound of Thunder version at all? Its brilliant and never saw anyone do it before other than the master himself, Mr Gilmour :-)

  • @daviebluenose Thank you ;) Good to hear that you liked it. I have never thought about it, but doing different versions of one song is something I have never done before,... but who knows ;)

  • Good work sounds cool. Can you do a lesson for steel guitar on pink floyd breath?

  • Man this is an awesome work.

    Sounds prety good!

Which type of amplifier use? Tube Amplifier?

    Use a Fuzz Face-delay-reverb?

    Regards

  • @carlosayalapaz Hey man! Thanks for the nice words! I used a PodXT and recorded using USB, nothing more. The effects are all internal.

  • @snippydude Ok!

But what effects use on your PodXT?

  • @carlosayalapaz Delay, reverb and an emulation of the tube screamer.

  • cheers

  • sounds great, what tunung are you using??

  • Comment removed

  • @zoot93 I used dropped D

  • amazing! great cover!

  • WOW "/

  • sounds great

  • great job man, what effects do you use?

  • @theblackstratocaster Reverb and Delay

And thanks to all the other nice comments, too!

  • just one amazing job you did there. i really appreciate your work!

  • @F1r3d3m0n Thanks a bunch, man! It's great to hear that!

  • nice playing snippy...just awesome sounds just like David Gilmour. Great job on Wots uh the deal? too i love that song. Great job man.

  • gilmour uses a metal slide, right?

  • @slideon

    - Yup

  • very nicely done

  • congratulations !!!!!!.Robert

  • Sweet vid man! Love the sound you get :) could you give me some deets on this steel guitar? Like what make it is and stuff, I've been looking to get one for a while now and i notice this isn't the usual double fender job i usually see and think "if only i had the money". Although for the sound your getting it probably costs just as much! Cheers :)

  • I am glad you liked it! ;)

But I got to "disappoint" you. This guitar was rather on the lower end of prices.

It is relabled procuct, the orgininal being the "slider" by abm, but being sold by germanies biggest music store called thomann. Cost me 222 Euros but as far as I can tell offereds really good value for money!

  • certainly is good value for money!

    Sounds great :)

    thanks for the info!

  • Nice job,man.

  • This is AMAZING. I want to be able to play this song SO much... :D So it's just drop D tuning the song uses?

  • Yeah, I love it soo much!

I don't know what tuning Gilmour uses, but I use dropped D and as you can see it works well ;)

  • Gilmour used open Em tuning on this song.

  • fucking raw

  • Hi this type of guitar need a particolary tune??? or it is like a normal guitar??

    king regards!!

  • Hi!

Well, this depends entirely on the song you play. since you obvliously cannot really play chords on this guitar (except the chords that come from notes on different strings but the same fret). So when you want to play chords of a particular song, you will have to tune the guitar to the chord the song is based on.

  • nice!!

  • I love this song -- you get a guitar solo in one ear and a slide solo your the other ear ... classic David!!

  • wots the tuning for this song on a steel guitar?

  • DADGBE just droped D..

  • hell yes man!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What I's dropped d tuning?

  • YEs...

  • What tuning is that? C-6 or what? You rocked it awsome, I love Pink Floyd , David Gilmore is the shit.

  • Thanks man! Dropped D is standardtuning with the low E dropped by 2 semitones. So DADGHE.

  • H? How do you tune to H?

  • Im completely sure he ment B lol because standard tuning is EADGBE for guitar and its kinda close to this. and on the keyboard the h is right above the B lol and there is no H in the musical alphabet.... so that wouldnt be possible

  • I am german and your b is our h ;) So yeah, I meant DADGBE.

  • oh ok jaja great playing man i play guitar and hey do u think building a steel guitar is better than just buying one?

  • Well I suppose you could built a steel guitar, at least way more easily than building a complete electric guitar ;)

But you will need some proper craftsmenship for that, so I would not give it a try without feeling 100% up to the task

  • pretty cool!

  • your right, I have been practicing and getting pretty close! Thanks and keep slidin'

  • That sounds AWESOME! I love this song and you play it well! Could you do a rough tab?

  • Thank you, mate!

I wanted to do a tab for some time now, but I never really found the right time and ncentive to do so. Could be a while, but if I do, I make sure to tell you ;)

But it is not too difficult to learn this song by ear, there are only a few notes and patterns in there.

  • fuck yes!

  • incredible

  • Thanks guys! I am glad you like it!

  • Fantastic!!!!!

  • are you david gilmour? man, 'cause you play like him! you rock!!!!! man...

  • pretty beast man i would love to buy one of these but i already have an acoustic guitar which is beast

  • you can buy a beginnger rogue one for $100 on musicians friend its called EA-3

  • That was beastly, nice job.

This song is one of the reasons I decided to pick up a slide.

  • gobsmacked!!!! that was sounded shithot man!! 5stars

  • Balls-on bro!!!

  • Hey dude, I got a question!

How much was this steel guitar?

Im looking to learn how to play this instrument.

  • I payed 222 Euros for this one (onlineshop of the german musicstore Thomann) I would not buy one of theses 80 Euro Slideguitars. Haven't played one of those yet, but I don't think they are any good ;)

  • really nice :)

what kind of distortion do you use?what's that pedal in the background?

  • The hole sound is produced by my PodXT (Which is the red thingy in the background) ;)

  • is the traditional - E- A-D-G-B-E ? and please show it in another angle.. (sorry about my english)

  • No, it's dropped D. What do you mean about the angle? Pictures or the whole video/song?

  • One of these days, i'm going to cut you into little pieces!!!

  • what brand of guitar is that?

  • It's a rebranded abm slider!

  • i just bought be a john morrell pro. really great playing!!!

  • really good cover , nice one

  • Damn, that was amazing, perfect cover, 5*

  • weldone that was excellent

  • Is that a backing track or the original your playing over? I'm desperately looking for a backing track for this one, but can't find any..

    Greetings

  • Sorry man, I don't have any backing for this song either. I am playing over the original ;)

  • how is that tuned?

  • Forth comment under yours ;)

  • wow, as nice as your wot's uh the deal.... you really make me want to get a slide...

  • lol i want one too. sometimes its kind of hard to use my guitar especially with the 7.25 radius. with the slide its nice and flat.

  • Is there a special tuning? I learned it on a EADGBE tuned Stratocaster.

  • Special: no

But I use dropped D. How else do you want to play the (power) chords in this song?

  • I always thought gilmour tuned his guitar to open E minor for this, it works too.

    EBEGBE

  • May be so, I have no idea. I just used dropped D because it works fine and I would not have to learn a new tuning ;)

  • WOW! Amazing!

  • Incredible

  • pretty well done there bro.

  • Just Excellent.

  • great job!!!

  • great man, this is perfect!

  • O_O PERFECT

  • Can you tell me where you got the tabs? And where can i get a good steel guitar for round 200€?

P.S. It is genius keep on playing

  • Hi!

Well, as far as I know there are no proper tabs out there, so I learned it by ear.

My guitar cost around 200 euros and I got it from thomann. The next pricerange would be around 100 Euros, but I don't think that you would have much with those. But anyway take a look into thomann (Adress is the same, German website). There have some lap steels there.

  • Thanks for the info. I think I will the harley benton slider for 222€.

  • what effects are you using? great playing!

  • Thanks!

I just used a subtle delay and a reverb.

  • GREAT JOB

  • cool - great song

  • wow...cool guitar.

  • Wow, great cover!!!

  • Is that standard tuning or a different tuning.

  • I play with DADGBE, but normal tunings for steel guitar are more exotic. (Depends on the song and the chords)

  • Wow! I thinked that steel gives standard E tuning (because 6th string doesn't use in this song)...

    ¡Great soloooooo!

  • rock on!

  • Alors là, je dis grand Bravo !!

This is so big ! And so precise.

    EBEGBE, is that correct ?

WE NEED more good rockin lap steel on youtube !!!

  • Thanks dude!

Nope, but almost;) I used a normal dropped D so DADGBE but I don't see why you would not use EBEGBE. I just prefer DAD because I don't have to rethink the positioning compared to playing the normale electric guitar.

  • Awsome job! I have the same Conn tuner as well as a ST-11.

  • Thanks man! I would love to have a ST-11, but it's so damn expensive ;) Just love the ST-6 though. It's a fantastic tuner and a fantastic piece of craftmanship, too.

  • That tone bar you are using has an interesting shape. What kind is that and how do you like it?

  • To be honest I don't know what kind it is, because it came with my steel guitar. Nevertheless I find the shape pretty good, because due to its slimness you can move it pretty fast and it still is much heavier than a bottleneck or so, so the tone is still clean and the slide itself accurate.

  • Aahh...very nice too. Good job.

  • Hi ! You played well dude!

What kind of amp do you need for a steel guitar? Cause i really like to buy one!

  • Hi and thanks!

Since a steel guitar is nothing else than a normal electric just with an other body and a raised saddle any amp you like will do ;)

Just keep in mind that the sound can differ a bit due to the pickups that are used.

  • how much money coast that lap steel??

  • It cost me 220 Euros at thomann(dot)de but this model acually is a relabled one. The orgininal - at least I suppose it is - is made by abm (goole for "ABM Slider 6-string Lap Steel Guitar") costing about 300 Euros, so it is a good deal.

  • in fact it's EBM that's why I struggled to find it lol... it's harley benton right?

  • Yep, you are dead on ;)

  • is it really difficult to keep it in tune? I'm seriously thinkin about buying one... the fender on THomann looks cool too

  • No, the mechanics aren't that bad, but you really get the difference when you usually play floyd rose ;) Thats all there is to it. For the 2xx euros you get a good guitar that you can work with, no doubt about it. Yeah the fender looks nice, too :D But I would suspect that it is not that much suited for high gain sounds.

  • yeah that was my suspicion about it... Dave plays Breath and the great gig in the sky, with a fender too, with two single coils, but that's clean sounds... maybe I'll go with the Harley lol, since you're doing a awesome job with it, I guess I could do the same with training lol ;-)

  • hey, what tab are you using? i can't find the real one, like the way dave plays...

  • Hey!

Like for high hopes there are no good tabs out there for this song that I know of. That is why I learned both of them by ear. Since there are no complex chords in there it is not that difficult, just takes some time. Perhaps when I find the time I will tab those songs in guitar pro, since I got that question a few times now.

  • wow! what tuning are you using?

  • I just used a commom dropped D Tuning to play both powerchords and normal soloing like on the electric guitar.

  • good version man! i wish those guitars were "buyable" in my country but well... greetings from argentina, I liked the other covers too

  • Thanks!

Sorry to hear that. Just one info though: I just looked it up and found out that the shop where I bought mine will ship to Argentine for 30 Euros. Its not that bad ;)

  • On other covers try not to play the song.. use a guitar pro version or something like that without the part you're playing so we can fully hear you :P

    Very nice job tho...

  • Yep, you are right, no doubt about it. Ususally I use backingtracks, but I was not able to find one for this song. The thing is, with a GP-backing none of the feeling of this song reaches the listener, thats why I choose to play with the original.

  • are you using glass or steel for your slide?

  • I am using a steel slide (A bar not a bottleneck), because I found it much more accurate and it requires less pressure to get a clean tone. In Minute 1:10 you can see it in my hand ;)

  • Great playing man :D 5 stars from me :D

  • That's so awesome!
