It's sad that in America right now, there is so little civil discourse among politicians of all stripes, but I have to say, I find Obama's and Clinton's behaviour exemplary compared to the incredibly personal attack ads launched by Republicans (unfortunately, we see a lot of your TV up here in Canada). But the tone of American politics is shrill and mean-spirited. Minister's party
@Kaalec And some of our politicians are trying to import it. Our Prime Minister's party recently tried some hard U.S.- style attack ads. Luckily, the outcry from Canadians across the country, and including members of the same party, was so great that the ads were pulled after two days. So far, we keeping your destructive, extreme polarization out. But it's getting tougher.
I think what is missing in the real world politics is politicians doing a real honest clean campaign instead of going backdoors and slandering opponents.
The Santos VS. Vinick campaign showed us two politicians who are refuses to sacrifice their integrity to win the Presidency, like when Vinick refused to use Leo's death on Election Night as a step-stool to win over Santos, and I think that is something that the American people wants to see in their future leaders in real life.
Yeah, it's true. There is a youtube video with a West Wing writer explaining that Santos was based on Obama, what he calls a post-racial political figure.
Some of the writers have SAID that, yes. And I understand their burning desire to provide a romantic background to their private political preferences.
If only the actual TIMELINE did not contradict their story.
Damn right, I was telling people who haven't seen the West Wing to watch the 6th Series to see how accurate they were. Even many of the issues came up!
If even half a Bartlet had run in 2000 instead of Gore, or if even a quarter of a Bartlet had tun in 2004, America would be better off.
Bush Jr won both times because the alternatives offered by the opposing Party was even more uninspiring the first time and even more alarming the second time.
> In fact, I bet Gore would have been an awesome President.
Unfortunately, even the voters in his home state--the state which he represented for 16yrs and which his father before him represented for 32yrs--disagreed.
One must be really really awful to get rejected in favor of an intellectual mediocre who often could not even pronounce correctly in his own first language.
Too bad. If Gore Jr had won TN, then FL would have been irrelevant.
I don't think so. Nothing personal mind you, I just don't think his heart was ever in it. Al Gore always wanted to be the cool kid in class, no matter what it took, he wanted to be the the prom king. And with his movie and Global Warming campaign he made it for a few years. I think he would have been in the completely wrong place to do what he wanted to do with his life. Being president isn't about yourself...it's about the people. The perfect president's highest quality would be selflessness.
Because although WJ Clinton, as a former President, can be prevailed upon to work with BH Obama for the sake of the Party, and needs no prompting to work for the country, Michelle cannot possibly be prevailed upon to tolerate Hillary (and Barack does not seem the type who is able to withstand pissing off his wife).
※ And if I turn out to be wrong, I shall promptly and gladly take these words back.
Is this the clip where Pres Bartlet tells VP Russell that having a member of his finance committee state that the only reason that Santos is in the running is because he is Hispanic is vile in the extreme? I love that part.

Aaron Sorkin left the show after season 4.
andreicmello 3 years ago
doesnt matter that he left the show....doesn't change the fact that many of the writers and producers have said that Santos was based on Obama.
BetaArtemis 2 years ago
Yes, but "writers" and "Sorkin" is roughly equivalent to "physicists" and "Einstein", so it's hard to just use them interchangeably.

the problem was, the democrats didn't have any one of Bartlett's stature and gravitas to step in like this.

JB420, how dare you suggest that Carter, Mondale, Dukakis and Kerry are not as impeccably noble and heroic as Bartlet!

Well I beg to differ there. Primaries have always been important.

Yeah, instead all it got is Obama. Damn reality.

That is definitely what they need to learn.
lol I've been telling my friends that Obama and Clinton would never run together. They both have egos that aren't big enough for the white house.
