How come the second coming did not happen when Joseph Smith gave us the date? - "It is the will of the Lord that those who went to Zion, with a determination to lay down their lives, if necessary, should be ordained to the ministry, and go forth to prune the vineyard for the last time, or the coming of the Lord, which was night -- even fifty-six years, should wind up the scene", Joseph Smith Jr., 1891, (The History of the Church, vol II, page 182)
The Book of Abraham papyri were thought lost in the 1871 Great Chicago Fire. However, in 1966 several fragments of the papyri were found in the Museum of Art in New York, and in the LDS church archives. Upon examination by professional Egyptologists, the papyri were found to be common Egyptian funerary texts, dating to about the first century BC, and not a story of Abraham as Joseph Smith claimed.
The Bible is true, but the book of Mormon is not. See:
I am LDS, and I saw this movie....................it sucked like a kirby vacuum.......Let me say that this was not a church sanctioned flick, and again...........it sucks. It is so HOKEY, that , even though I KNOW that the Book of Mormon is true, THIS MOVIE WOULD MAKE ME DOUBT IT, so the makers of it should be ashamed, because they probably did more harn than good! Go do a re-make of "where the red fern grows", and you might get it right....
@datsyhoehoe I didn't say it DID make me doubt, because nothing can. I was stressing the point that, IF someone doesn't already have a testimony, this silly movie could shut the door on their mind to where they might not believe it if opportunity presented itsself again. There are better productions around, church sanctioned, that more clearly and believably illustrate the story of the Church history. That's all I'm saying and that's just my opinion. I don't have to "win" this debate. I'm good
Book of Mormon True? Which one? How do you know? What about the internal contradictions? How about the stuff that never existed? How about the false prophesies? Where is the proof?
Let's bracket the question of Mormonism, the Book of Mormon's truth value (or lack thereof), or even the quality of this adaption, which I understand even left many Mormons disappointed. Actually, I just wanted to draw attention to the quality of this video technically speaking. It streams very poorly, with a lot of lagging, and I don't think it's just me, because I've had no other major problems with other videos all day.
movies make little mistakes but what we´ve to be looking to is to the teachings of it, is sad to see so much people like this guy Kaileo1, talking so badly of something so sacred but he has a mouth so what can we do ??? well we dont have to proof nothing to him just let him believe whatever he whats, apostasy and people that will talk bad is going to be always, I know with all my heart the Book of Mormon is the another testament of Jesucrist and I know this because I recieve an anwswer of God
I have read the Book of Mormon many times over 40 years. The movie tells the story in an entertaining but effective way. It isn't claiming perfection. I would recommend viewing it as time well spent, certainly far better than any movie I have seen from Hollywood in the last 25 years.
I have taught classes on the Old and New Testament and Book of Mormon for 40 years and just posted 1000 Youtube videos on the Bible. I recognize truth when I see it.
I testify to you and the whole world that Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God and the Book of Mormon is true. I joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 40 years ago as a new father, searching for truth for my family and I found nothing but truth, integrity and honor in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
As do I.........I will wage my eternal soul on the Book of Mormon and His servant Joseph Smith....... This book and this Prophet has brought me closer to my Savior, Jesus Christ, than any other means.
A HOAX ???......13 Million strong and still growing after over 150 years. I call that true and pure doctrine. Fastest growing Church on Earth, Most Christ centered people you will ever meet.
@MrMik: a TOTAL hoax! and definitely NOT the fastest growing church on earth... you still believe that old lie? 7th Day Adventists and Assemblies of God BOTH grow far faster, at rates of 8% and 10%. Convert baptisms for the Mormons have actually gone DOWN since the 1990's because you can't control the message with the internet around. And Mormons only make up 1/4 of ONE percent of the world's population... that's a very puny, slow-growing "true and pure doctrine".
Kaileo1 is such a powerful "Defender of Truth" that he makes comments to other people's channels but HIDES BEHIND A FRIEND BLOCK so nobody can send any comments to him. What does that say about how much he believes in his own claims?
Latter-day Saints have always faced our critics with honor and integrity as did Jesus when men came to arrest him in the Garden of Gethsemane.
In over 170 years, since the Book of Mormon was first published, not one critic has ever proven any of their claims.
What THE FRIEND BLOCK says, "GospelReader", is that I like my debates to be in a public forum. I'm not here for silly personal testimonies exhorting me to read the Book of Mormon... a book I've read at least a dozen times. You're grasping at straws.
In over 170 years, most all of the claims AGAINST the Book of Mormon HAVE been proven. But people like GospelReader will continue to be willfully blind to the truth!
What your FRIEND BLOCK says is that you are willing to make public comments on other people's channels but you will not allow other people to make public comments on your channel.
I don't need to grasp at straws. Your "example" is a great enough contrast to the truth to be proof of what I said.
Sincere critics do us a great favor, they make us examine our beliefs and look for truth and act accordingly. Dishonest critics have no more value than fruit flies. We see you for what you are.
Now you're being silly. Everyone can configure their home page as they see fit. There's no standard as to what is right or wrong. You also have the ability to use friend lock as you see fit.
Dishonest simply because I don't want messages from people I don't know? Laughable! Get over it and stop your whining, name calling... and grasping.
Debate on the merits of your religion, if you can... like the BofM's many anachronisms-- words, plants, animals, technology and metals-- for starters.
Is that integrity the same one that Joseph Smith used when h ordered the destruction of the Vauvoo Expositor and when he later killed two men before being killed himself?
Isn't it the most correct book on earth (after those thousands of changes, we mean)? And just ignore the little mistake that the Mormon jesus (small j) made in 3 Nephi 20:3-25, okay?
The only changes were dividing the Book of Mormon into chapters and verses and putting in punctuation as was done with the Bible in the 1500's so people can find things easier.
The only other changes have been correcting spelling mistakes the printers made in the original Book of Mormon. We think correcting spelling mistakes is OK.
It is interesting to see the hostility and pettiness of critics who ALL make false claims and then can't HONESTLY back any of their trash up.
How could your god not know if Jesus was or wasn't God? Don't you think that would be a pretty easy one for him, since it was so important that he had Smith tell the story over and over again until he finally got it right?
Yet, still, we find thousands of problems with the text, up to and including revisions that change the very doctrine it's supposed to restore, such as this:
These records shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that
the Lamb of God is the Eternal Father and the Savior (BOM, 1830, p.32)
These records shall make known to all kindreds, tongues, and people, that the Lamb of God is the Son of the Eternal Father and the Savior (BOM, 1 Nephi 14:30)
This is trash to you, a person who puts their very eternal soul in the hands of Joseph Smith? If this is wrong, wouldn't you want to know about it? I certainly would!
If your god finally got around to 'restoring' the Gospel after the fictional apostacy, why would he allow the book with which he would do so to be so filled with mistakes? After all, we know that Smith didn't use his own words, don't we?

Since your standard of proof is sheer numbers alone, you really ought to be either Catholic or Muslim, with somewhere near a billion members each.
And the christ you follow (small c) isn't the Christ of the Bible.
