  • freaking best violin concerto ever

  • theme @4:30 is worth waiting a lifetime to listen to.

  • best interpretation of this best violin concerto, just amazing

  • omg i wish i could compose like sibelius so inspiring... cello part is so harddd =,=

  • @jerrykim16 haha i totally agree! ;)

  • He plays brilliant but I can´t look at the video because of all the faces he´s making. It´s about the music, right? it´s not theatre...

  • @swarteschap its about music, thats why you should close your eyes if you dont like his face expressions and listen!

  • @swarteschap musicians have the role of being an actor on stage, just like anyone else who performs. It's the performers job to get the listener to fully understand what the composer has written. All the emotions that they are trying to say with music. So yes the performer must act to do this.

  • Master of the Violin!!!!!! Grandios.

  • its great violin,....but that doesnt stop the fact he looks like hes trying to stick his nose up a ferry's ass.

  • A great conductor and great soloist = great music. Just listen people and ignore the faces. I play the violin and really envy his ability. All 'dislikes' should be obliged to upload their own performance!

  • Simply beautiful

  • ...so..it can be played this way, too

  • @jerrykim16 - in fact, Maxim is dancer too...

  • why do all violinists have to shake the body like hell and make faces.. i bet the people on the back will be thinking like " he should be a dancer instead:

  • @jerrykim16 It is the feelling on your senses with the music.

  • @jerrykim16 performing good music is like performing good sex. if you ain't making faces you ain't doing it right.

  • @keyfeatures I agree! those face expressions show the emotions that are hidden inside . That shows his sensitivity to music. BTW I "adore" Maxim. He plays well :)

  • this is my favorite interpretation of all times... In my opinion, It is the closest to what Sibelius wrote on the score. I do have to close my eyes sometimes to really listen to the phrasing and not get distracted by his faces.

Ps. I love the slower tempo..

  • amazing perfomance but the faces he does are bothering...

  • It happens so often that you think you know a piece. Then you hear a performance like this and you realize that up to this point you have only heard violinists "play the music" but listening here you feel that you can hear Sibelius "speaking" directly to you and it all makes perfect sense.

  • Tiene un ataque de moquillo

  • amazing performance.

  • @guidc лучшее исполнение концерта Сибелиуса за всю историю человечества

  • The line that normally separates a person from the world is here no longer drawn; there is no division between Mr Vengerov and the Violin. And his technique is unequaled.

Too many people are confused between the marketed/ manufactured group of violinists and actual talent. Mr Vengerov is the 'actual talent' and genius section, more or less by himself.

  • @mrlevina2 where would you put Itzhak?

  • I like how he plays it slow. A haunting love story gone tragically wrong.

  • There is nothing wrong with his expression in his face or body. Its the music that is being expressed. His passion and interpretation is excellent. I don't see why some of you are making a big deal about it. Moving is natural and everything he does just enhances the music. This video is to enjoy, not criticize. Why watch it if you are going to criticize a great violinist.

  • Vengerov, obviously, plays Rachmaninov while playing Sibelius.

Anyway, he plays well what he plays.

(I'm still looking for a better interpretation)

  • @gogolmol Lisa Batiashvili did a very good version (not the one from 1995) and I think it's on youtube....so, if you are not in Germany, you can see it....maybe...

  • great

  • Forgetting for a second his interpretation or technique, supporters of Vengerov can't argue that his hamminess is distracting. All you have to do is look at all the controversy over it. If it were toned back you'd just have people discussing his playing, not how he looks. To me that's a sign that he's gone too far.

  • I´ve always liked Maxim Vengerov . One o the greatest players, perhaps the greatest.

  • @AlCapwn666 You have to be really good before you can put your whole body into it.... :P

  • THIS. SONG. IS. STUCK. IN. MY. THROAT.

  • Just had a little blind test consisted of 10 performances of Sibelius concerto. I thought that current recording was of little Japanese girl. Blind test is great thing, highly recommended! His early recordings is awesome but now it's not so great.

  • Sooooooo cartoony looking

  • He is so damn good.. This violin concerto is the most beautiful ever! Cant wait to play it myself!

  • que cara de huevon

  • vengerov rejoue !!!!!

  • too bad he can't play anymore! :(

  • @ciprian25 wait why?

  • @FERViolin2010 "From this point on, I have decided to leave my violin to rest for some time, in order to give my undivided attention to conducting.” his own words. Vengerov got a shoulder injury, and had to cancel a few concerts, but it is healed now. in that time though, he found a new love for conducting, and wants to pursue that, instead of competing in the world of violin.

  • Respect.

  • So god damn good

  • Most incredible Violinist

  • GREAT performance!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Obviously, he's a great musician, but I'm sorry, he is so eccentric it just makes me crack up.

  • 31 people failed to press the thumb up button XD

  • who were the 31 morons that did not like this video?...

  • 5:40-5:52

How does he trill that fast?!!

  • @MauriceFlute You have to move your hand like a vibrato :)

  • @MauriceFlute thats a trill connected with vibrato :)

  • @MauriceFlute Trill + Vibrato = Fast Trill :)

  • @jproskate

    LOL true

  • Great interpretation :) !!!!!!

  • bill clinton at 7:10

  • @jproskate

    hahhaha :D

  • Amazing...

  • I don't understand why people come to classical music youtube videos, talk about how much they hate classical music, complain about a musician's interpretaion, and then get everyoine riled up about the same debate as every classical video on this entire website. If you don't find classic music appealing: fine. Just leave our videos alone. Classical Music is meant to be enjoyed, celebrated, and discovered. Not cause for ridiculous arguments about unanswerable questions. Please respect our vids.

  • @cellist413 haters gonna hate

  • @cellist413 Its classical music.. its so old and heard so many times before the only proactive contributions and involvements that people feel they can have and make with intelligence without just a mindless compliment of a virtuoso is brutal criticism

  • @cellist413 i agree with you , my favorite music is death metal (morbid angel , bloodbath)

but my second favorite instrument (i play guitar , jackson warrior) is the violin , and yes , the classical music must be enjoyed , if for some people is too complex , go to see a lady gaga video

    sorry for my bad english

  • 5:36 - 5:55 the countdown until launch

5:55 - 6:13 the orchestra is launched into orbit

  • What instrument is that that come is in on 0:59. I'm not as familiar with the wind instruments as I am the string instruments. Is that the clarinet or flute or probably neither

  • @dysoncrystal I'm about 99% sure it's a clarinet.

  • @lorditachijr thanks 4 letting me know

  • @dysoncrystal clarinet

  • For all you mofos who don't understand. Music isn't black and white. There is no correct interpretation, and there is no correct method of phrasing a piece, Only the individual's passion and bleeding emotion onto music judges the quality in performance. Either you like it or not, its up to you to decide, but for me his playing is perfection.

  • @hyeonj315 Exactly, puritans and dogmatic tarts believing their perception is the one and only absolute truth are in for a rude awakening. It makes them no better than racist christian fundamentalists, or jihad extremists.

  • Violinists versus Musical Violinists. Maxim is a Musical Violinist. Not just a technician that plays notes like most robotic violin players. But a musician who feels every note, every passage, and makes it his own special rendition and interpretation. No one wants to hear the same fucking rendition of this concerto over and over and over. If you want to be special you have to make it special.... BRILLIANT MAXIM. YOU ARE ONE OF THE GREATS. GREAT RENDITION.

  • 30 people accidentally hit the dislike button......but your all forgiven...

  • 30 motherfuckers don't like it.

I LOVE IT! I LOVE THIS CONCERT AND I LOVE VENGEROV!!!! ♥

  • just AWESOME

  • THE BEST SIBELIUS VERSION.. BY FAR

  • 7:39 to the end it's hipnotizing

  • @RaulMedinaMendez the entire thing is hypnotizing for me...

  • Mannerisms very Lang Lang-esque...xDDD

  • Listen to Christian Ferras version instead!

    It is here on youtube.

The first movement by Ferras is "way better" then Vengerovs.

The second movement by Ferras is "divine" and by many considered as the best there is,

In the third movement Ferras goes "all out" and plays like no other! - Past or Present!

If you listen to Ferras playing you will not like Vengerovs playing, bacause it is weak with no commitment or real feelings.

  • @maxhansendk speaking about the first movement, I'm sorry, but my opinion is that this piece sounds better in Vengerov's tempo and version...the Ferras' just too fast for me:) but I agree he plays it perfectly

  • i'm playing this! i hope to play a fraction of as well as he plays when i have it polished.

  • simply beautiful...

  • venegrov be more fierceful 1:34 - 1:48, like a war going on. And then comes the harmonic, 1:50. I think no vibrato is necessary if you are fierce enough on 1:34 - 1:48. It improves the music itself. "Different color" like you mentioned. I didnt feel that difference when you played it. Your masterclass teaching was superb, but here all I could see was your distorted face

  • @pzowndizzle1, who are you to say that crap?

  • 27 people...

    A) missed the LIKE button;

    B) had a cat jumping on the keyboard at the wrong second;

    C) were trying to answer the question "what's this mouse thingy for?" in the wrong spot on the wrong page...

    D) speak a language in which "thumbs down" is code for "hell, suddenly I can't hear you, help me!";

    Now isn't that bad luck??

  • Vangerov is the best !!!

  • This is so beautiful! He's plalying his heart out !!!

  • Call me a fool for reading through the comments, but I'm really in shock and awe at how catty some of it is. Personally, I really like the way Vengerov plays it (it's not necessarily my favourite interpretation, but it's amazing all the same!) More than that, however, I -adore- this concerto (and Sibelius as a composer) and, as a violinist who has no chance of playing it, I'm awestruck just by the technical skill in Vengerov's playing. Sorry for the ranting. >>

  • so much passion!!!

  • Oh, and one more thing - his phrasing - this is Sibelius played with true musicality - he is INSIDE this piece. Not just stringing together a sequence of notes and silences. This is another difference between "just playing", and "creating music". And I have to say it - I mean, no wonder he is looking like that! He should be!

  • Oh my gosh, I got chills with the gently pulsating strings at the opening. It's so incredibly haunting.

  • Very good, just too slow for my liking.....

  • Vengerov's interpretation is terribly important. I play violin as an amateur, have 5 different recordings on CD and have heard a further 3 others in live concert. This by Vengerov is interpreted much more slowly than the vast majority, and this opens the entire heavenly piece up to hearing, as if for the first time. Playing a much faster tempo, almost the standard now, closes the music in and loses so much. This is the best interpretation, by far. Played slower, and VERY musical. Vengerov = 10*

  • @brasselp i think only ida haendel supasses this performance myself!

  • @brasselp I totally agreed. I listened to a live concert version. Cannot compare to this one!

  • ýeahhhhhhhh************

  • ugh, the faces! but I have to admit he compares really well.

  • I know many people criticise Vengerov, for the faces he makes, or maybe because he isn't quite as skilled as the old masters, but when i listen to his music, it feels... human.

  • @galstafferoc IMHO the old masters were not as skilled as Vengerov - the next genuine master in that exclusive few that surely is the result of an entirely natural progression of fiddle-playing! The immense contribution of the old masters has resulted in technique and taste at the highest possible level that is only available to very very few - and Vengerov is one.

  • Best interpretation out there.

  • @azure132 No, ida haendel has that trophy!

  • @azure132 I wouldn't go so far as to call it the best interpretation out there, but it is certainly a very respectable recording, and a beautiful performance. He is truly a great violinist.

  • i love Oistrakh, and Hahn.. i think both of them interpreted this Concerto very well indeed...

But i also think that Vengerov is amazing.... in Resume: the three of them are very very good, each one in his way. I think we can love the three interpretations because they are equally very good and passionate

  • i thing its to nice. it shuld be more aggressive.

  • @danielwowman he is more aggressive in the masterclass

  • Maxim,please come back!!

  • Nope nope. Listen to the actual mp3 of Vengerov, around 15:00 into it, he plays something that in the middle of the song, the orchestra plays. Heifitz doesn't even do that . That part is VERY HARD. i've heard others - I like this one best.

  • @TeeJayMarsh Hi! thanks for the clue, i'm looking for the piece you reccommended me. I love how committed you are. :)

  • He plays the piece well, but I just don't really like his style as much as other violinists. He still is one of the best in the world! It's one thing to not like his interpretation, but it is another to say he's horrible because you like a different style. I really like 4:14 and on, that was awesome! Actually, I think he plays Sibelius better than most on a professional level!

  • not good he played this like it was masinetes meditation. i was hoping on him on this fantastic violin conserto.

  • I find it how funny how people make rude comments base on the player's appearance instead of the music itself. If we listened to this concerto by numerous famous violinists as mp3 files with no indication of who is playing I think we would be more likely to be unbiased to evaluate the interpretation according to the music instead of the violinists physical appearances, etc.

Surely we will be able to find out who is playing, but that is what makes us different. ie interpretation, phrasing, etc.

  • Excellent version.

  • Wrong expression.

Look how Oistrakh plays this piece.

  • ㅋㅋㅋ 마이너스 5. 나쁜놈이구먼

  • @yudh99 I know

  • too many morons cannot understand the passion this man puts into his music

  • @XxMalcolm You are right!

  • @XxMalcolm I like the way you say this :P He might look like a show-off but that is said by, like you said, morons cause in fact this is just showing sincere involvement in music, its all about the music!

  • @XxMalcolm This is my favorite violin concerto; I have performed it with orchestra... and even I think this fool is over doing it. When I play, I put the passion ito my music, not into my face/body.

  • @AlCapwn666 "This fool"

    ...

I agree it's over done, but you cannot dub his interpretation foolish in anyway. Be respectful in your criticism.

  • @AlCapwn666 i see where you're coming from, this is also my favourite concerto, but vengerov's is my favourite recording of it- even when it's on the radio and i don't know who is playing- followed very closely by oistrakh. i can't fault his interpretation even when i close my eyes and ignore his eyebrows :p

  • Comment removed

  • First of all this is an excellent interpretation, with slow playing and an almost magical feeling at the beginning.

The intonation is top notch; maybe the stretching of the tempo and the faces are distracting you too much. Listen without watching the video and you will appreciate true greatness.

Second: Hilary is an excellent violinist, one of the best who ever lived, with an amazing technique and eye for cleanliness. I personally like Vengerov's interpretation better, though.

  • @maxhansendk Wow. What a classless, jealous comment.

  • it's so awkwardly slow, but i feel like im trapped in the music

  • @thecandyman86 i agree, it's slow, but it does suck you in for some reason. His other pieces, I don't really like (like the Mendehlssohn e minor) but I do like the beginning of this.

  • 5:15-5:36 feels you're going up the stairs of sky and suddenly see yourself in paradaise!!

  • wow, the best beginning interpretation I've heard.

  • que buen violinista, pero esta para ganar un Oscar tambien.

  • 4:30-5:05 love this moment

  • do you see the video of vagnerleonard23? is alot better that vengerov

  • To Maestro Vengerov's criticizers: His music is outstanding, and probably better than any of your talents are. So shut up about his posture. It's just a small thing compared to the wonderful melodies he can produce out of his violin.

  • But you know i think the way his right shoulder comes up may have contributed in damaging his shoulders.

  • Quality of life.

  • And you maxhansendk you are the biggest asshole i've ever seen on YT...

  • He thinks he is a god, the more indeed a circus clown.

  • Looks like a circus clown, a big shit

  • This guy misses the most important "humility"

  • Finally somebody with brain---!

  • never once heard vengerov boast.

yeah his facial expressions remind of a clown.

if i could play 1 % as well as him, or any violin virtuoso, i wouldn't care if i looked like lassie

  • LOL "looked like lassie" looool Neather do I

  • Barenboim is nobody??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!§ BArenboim is one of the greatest pianist of our century!!!!! In my opinion he plays Moonlight sonata better then Horowitz

  • dude you suck so bad, shut the fuck up xD

  • max,

he cant be the 'biggest' fraud!

he does have one of heifetz's bow after all! :D

  • easily the best in the world

  • i cant listen this is really pissing me off. its too quiet. pls dzidkonia repost so we can properly enjoy this

  • Nossa queria muito conhecer pessoalmente, meu FÂ numero 1.

  • I feel that this man lives on the threshold of two dimensions. Our and where music is born.

  • To see and hear Maxim play this would be one of the high points of my life. I can play it but never at his level. Too bad we may never get the chance again.

  • I love his sound and phrasing, but I find him quite hard to look at...

  • I concur!!!!

Although, if we shut eyes and listen, then yay! :D

  • this is really wonderful. he's legendary performance.

  • Watch his masterclasses and then maybe you'll think better of him.

  • Please stop brashly criticizing vengerov or any other muscian. Whether its your favorite interpretation or not, just appreciate the masterpiece these composers have created and that years later a number of new interpretations will be born in the process of understanding these timeless pieces.

  • & U like a stupid.

  • Listen Gidon Kremer, realy

  • Well, he didn't screech, but the rest wasn't nearly as good as Hahn :P

  • i like more the cristian ferras interpretation than anybody else, im not saying that is the correct one but its mi favourite.

  • Good, good.

But in fact, Kavakos is much more better!

  • hmmm, I meant miserable video, duh..

  • miserable audio, obviously.

great violinist in most of his vids, but this time around, nothing new to the piece, weak overall...and his facial expressions always drive me nuts.

  • This is a very tedious rendition. I would have fallen asleep in the live performance. As far as his expression goes, it's over the top and I am very disappointed. There is a line and he crossed it. I agree, he does start like a weak man, and unfortunately, he hasn't sold me, and I'm not interested enough to continue listening. That's too bad, I love this piece.

  • Comment removed

  • Vengerov starts like a weak man. And does not bring anything new to this p
